Angela Wexler is the bomber. First of all she has access to everything the bomber has been using. For example in chapter 3 when Turtle goes into the Westing house there are fireworks if Turtle stole them Angela lives with Turtle so, she can easily walk into Turtles room and grab them at any time. Also Angela is always stealing Turtle’s things as Turtle says in chapter 12,” All right, Angela, where is it?” When Angela says,” What?” Turtle replies,” The newspaper you took from my desk.” Since the first person Turtle asked is Angela it implies that Angela always takes things from Turtle. Second, in the book, chapter 12 it shows that fireworks might have been used in the bomb that exploded the tomato cans,” Sparks flying all over the kitchen,
red sparks, purple sparks.” Meaning the red and purple sparks are fireworks. Which Angela could have easily stolen from Turtle. Also the bomber, Angela uses the Candles that Turtle made and sold in chapter 8 Angela uses these candles in chapter 13 as the book states,” The color striped candles would burn down to the fuse at six-thirty.” This yet again means Angela stole something from Turtle. However we do known that the bomber does not want to hurt anyone, as it states in chapter 13,” Whoever was working there would be at the other end of the kitchen. No one would be hurt.” Then when Sydelle actually ends up getting hurt Angela stays by her side the whole time and even accompanies her to the hospital. These three pieces of evidence prove that Angela Wexler is the bomber.
The excerpt from “Cherry Bomb” by Maxine Clair is about an adult narrator’s memory of her fifth-grade summer. The narrator describes several events from the summer, specifically an incident in which her cousin loses his eye. The author uses syntax, imagery, and diction to characterize the adult narrator’s thoughts about her childhood.
While facing struggle and adversity, a spiritually connected person may battle with his or her faith. In chapter 5, the Jewish prisoners are all gathered together and are a little anxious on whether or not this will be their last day on earth. They have been tormented because of their beliefs and now there are many questioning their quarrels with God. Elie is struggling to understand why God himself is rejecting and punishing those who serve him and give him his grace but yet are rewarding those who permits others to be gassed and killed.
She opened the fingers of one hand slightly and in the palm of the hand was a single slender object. An ordinary kitchen match. The sight of it rushed the men out and down away from the house. Captain Beatty, keeping his dignity, backed slowly through the front door, his pink face burnt and shiny from a thousand fires and night excitements.
Yearly, thousands die from not receiving the organs needed to help save their lives; Anthony Gregory raises the question to why organ sales are deemed illegal in his piece “Why legalizing organ sales would help to save lives, end violence”, which was published in The Atlantic in November of 2011. Anthony Gregory has written hundreds of articles for magazines and newspapers, amongst the hundreds of articles is his piece on the selling of organs. Gregory states “Donors of blood, semen, and eggs, and volunteers for medical trials, are often compensated. Why not apply the same principle to organs? (p 451, para 2)”. The preceding quote allows and proposes readers to ponder on the thought of there being an organ
In “A People’s History of the United States” by Howard Zinn, the focal point of chapter 17 was an issue for decades and was not enforced after Civil Rights Acts were passed and that was the inequality amongst the blacks and whites through slavery and segregation. It also gave an insight to how African Americans felt through these times and how they began to express themselves through blues, jazz, and poems. Blues were known to have expressions of anger as opposed to jazz that was rebellious. The thoughts of African American poems were often masked, but had a very significant meaning. Through the event where “President Truman in late 1946 appointed a Committee on Civil Rights, which recommended that the civil rights section of the Department
In “Oxygen” Mary Oliver focuses on the importance of oxygen, and how vital it is. She is talking about how important her love is with her husband. Their love together is like oxygen that keeps them going strong. She is doing whatever she can to keep the fire going stirring it with a stick of iron. Letting the logs lay loosely, while he is in the upstairs room. He is in his usual position dealing with his aching right shoulder. Her husband is breathing patiently in the upstairs room and she refers to the breathing as a beautiful sound. She feels as if she is in the same postion with him because she doesn’t know the measure between one another. They are so close you couldn’t cut them apart with a knife. “It is your life, which is so close to my own that I would not know where to drop the knife of seperation.” (Lines 13-17). That has everything to do with love, the fire rises and offers a
In the short story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” written by Joyce Carol Oats, the writer includes a very interesting character. One of the main characters, Arnold Friend, is a dynamic character due to the sudden changes of this physical appearance and personality. At first he seems charming and a little on the sweet side, but then his dark side starts to show as the story progresses. He first appears when Connie abandons her friend to go with a boy named Eddie. Arnold is seen in his gold convertible Jalopy, which is the first sign that he wants to be alluring. His first words in the story are "Gonna get you, baby" this foreshadows his intentions when it comes to Connie
The IC decided that the first thing that needed to be done was to contain the fire and get it extinguished as soon as possible. Then the IC divided the situation into three primary sections Tower 1, Tower 2 and the Vista Hotel. The bomb had detonated right below the Vista Hotel and thick black smoke was quickly filling the two towers. He then c...
Schlosser titles chapter 4 “Success”. This is an ironic title considering Dave Feamster had most of the hard work already completed for him. When Dave bought into the Little Caesars franchise, the popular name and business plan had already been established. He already had the supplier’s, equipment, and expertise needed to run a successful business; the only thing Feamster had to bring to the table was work and money. Dave didn’t have to struggle with introducing a brand new idea to the fast food nation unlike other entrepreneurs. Schlosser includes this contrast because it shows how much easier it is to buy into a franchise of a pre-existing business rather than opening a brand new one. With it being so much easier to buy into a franchise, more people are apt to doing that instead of starting their own business for fear of failure.
Within the book of "Excerpt of Going Solo" the main character Roald Doahl meets many odd and silly people. For instance some include people such as Major Griffiths, Miss Trefusis , Mdisho, U.N Savory, etc. However today I will be talking about Mdisho and Miss Trefusis specifally and on the topic of the ideas Roald conveyed about both of these characters
Before Elie goes to the concentration camp he is the cosseted son of a rich and influential man. His life turns only around his belief in god. He is even angry with his father because he doesn’t let him fast and study the Kabbalah. In Elie Wiesel’s book Night on p. 4 Elie asks his father to find him a master who could guide him in his studies of Kabbalah but his father responds “You are too young for that…..First you must study the basic subjects, those you are able to comprehend.” But already when Elie arrives in the concentration camp he starts to doubt in god because he sees a truck unloading little children in a huge fire. After all the new arrivals start to pray a death prayer for themselves but Elie only thinks “The Almighty, the eternal and terrible Master of the Universe, chose to be silent. What was there to thank Him for?” (p.33) He can’t imagine that there is a good and almighty god when as
Why do many people become illiteracy when others are in need of help desperately? For obvious reasons such as the courage to stand up for what you believe in, one might not have the essentials to engage in an act of justice ,and lastly they could possibly be in the similar situation. I agree with Elie Wiesel because what if you were in need of help ,you would want someone to back you up with the obstacles you're trying to overcome.
Edgar Allan Poe’s 1849 poem, “Annabel Lee”, explores the common themes of romance and death found in many of Poe’s works. The poem tells the story of a beautiful young maiden named Annabel Lee who resides by the sea. The maiden and the narrator of the poem are deeply in love, however the maiden falls ill and dies, leaving the narrator without his beloved Annabel Lee. Contrary to what many might expect from a poem by Poe and yet still depressing, the poem ends with the narrator accepting Annabel’s death and remains confident that they will forever be together despite her parting.
During the events of World War 2 the Jewish people would be separated from their families and taken away to be used for labor around concentration camps and some would be chosen to be killed. I agree when Elie Wiesel says we should all stand by when human lives are endangered or when people are being criticized by their race, religion, or political view, we didn’t do anything about the Jews being killed until 1941 that was when we joined the World War 2 but only because of the surprise attack on pearl harbor.
According to BBC News, the fire broke out early November 1 in one of the storage buildings which is said to be used for pesticides, mercury, and other highly poisonous agricultural chemicals. What triggered the fire is unknown but their are a few theories. A popular theory transpired that a shrink gun used on Prussian Blue packets ...
