Angela Duckworth, an assistant professor at the University of Pennsylvania taught middle school and high school students when she noticed that her best students were not necessarily her smartest students. Angela realization prompted her to leave her middle Scholl classroom and become a research psychologist, so her understanding towards the role non-cognitive traits like self-control and perseverance can improve in achievement. In Angela’s research, she explains how grit is “sticking with things over the very long term until you master them,” (Hanford) for perseverance and passion for long-term goals to be a significant predictor of success. Taking a deeper consideration of her research, and a role technology in fostering grit into students. Duckworth studies how the children and students and adults are challenged by their environment, such as individuals at West Point Military Academy, spelling bee constants, and rookie teachers in difficult schools. In a study, Duckworth, and other researchers understood that predicted college persistence among graduates’ high-performing charter networks. Networks served mostly students with students with low-income, minority families founded to close the academic gap between student and their high-income peers. The goal is to get students to attend college and earn degrees. Yet the students graduate from college at lower rates than expected based on their academic preparation. The schools want to know why this occurs, as well for, Angela. Especially if grit is involved. Some college, but no degree is lower in grit than the people who have college degrees, meaning that their lacking grit.
