“Fat Girl” by Megan Falley is one of my top ten poems. At the beginning of the poem, she starts off with a tone that seems very ashamed, but then with the line “Fat girl’s certain soul food taste better than being thin feels.” it changes into more of an unabashed tone. This poem means a lot to me, as I have always struggled with my body image and weight. When I was younger, I was constantly teased and called fat.
The main character in this story is a Jewish girl named Alicia. When the book

What would you do if you knew you could be dead in the matter of a few months? That’s the question Michelle, an inpatient dealing with leukemia struggles with on the daily. Although she’s a high school student with a bright future ahead of her, she can’t help but be pessimistic about her illness, and focus on the negative. In the story “the michelle i know” written by Alison Lohans, the author uses literary devices such as characterization, foreshadowing, and mood to convey the message that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Initially, the author uses characterization to effectively portray the theme of the story.
In Elizabethan times, living conditions of an everyday townsman was quite indecent. Elizabethan’s lived in houses that were extremely close to one another, which made it quite easy to disregard such a necessity to keep the streets and living surroundings clean.
Living in poverty as a lower class individual can be very stressful, anxious, and very little to no resources in order to survive for their own needs, as a person and also the needs of their family on a daily basis. Most, individuals who may live in poverty in the U.S. are single mothers who have children to raise on their own. In addition, to all single mothers, who can relate to the needs of working multiple jobs, and occasionally are going to school and getting a higher education; is not an easy job. Single mothers their first priority is to provide the needs of their living conditions and provide all of the needs of their own children. The following article “Angela Whitiker’s Climb” (2005), by Isabel Wilkerson was a case study

Serial, a true crime podcast known for its thorough and engaging investigations by narrator Sarah Keonig, covers a variety of cases with these themes in common: love, death, justice, and truth. As essential as they seem, Koenig's in-depth and brutally blunt analyses of her cases are not any child's play intended for high schoolers and older. In the first season, a murder mystery involving the death of a high-schooler named Hae Min Lee presents a wide range of suspects, with the major ones narrowed down to Adnan Syed and Jay Wilds. Isolation, like a dark cloud, cast’s its shadow over our lives, leaving us yearning for the rays of connection to pierce through the gloom. Alicia by Gabrielle Roy is a short story that shows the extreme effects isolation can have on the human spirit. A suffering character is fighting an untreated mental illness, as well as the lack of knowledge of mental illness at the time with little support from family members. Which unfortunately leads to her death. The way mental illness can lead to isolation, as well as having a family member going through mental illness and how this can lead to isolation among the whole family is shown in Roy's story and will be discussed in the following essay.

This is because a quarter of older households live in non-decent housing, impacting not only on the size of their heating bills but also on their health (Age UK, 2013). If this is the case, the outcome of poor housing conditions such as damp, indoor pollutants and cold have all been associated with physical illness including eczema, hypothermia and heart disease (Chartered institute of Environmental Health, 2015). This puts Edna at risk of further complications to her health and due to her age makes her more vulnerable to being affected with more serious health
