Known as the "Ellis Island of the West", Angel Island, San Francisco was the primary entrance to America for thousands of immigrants, many were Chinese, Japanese, and Asian Indian. The Angel Island Immigration Station, serving from 1910 through 1940, was created to control Chinese immigrants coming into the US after the creation of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882. Asian immigrants had many methods to bring their relatives, a potential spouse, or make money from selling citizenship papers. The Chinese Exclusion Act allowed only Chinese immigrants that were merchants, diplomats, students, and very few others.
