Ancient Greeks: Democracy's Impact On Everyday Life

Have you ever really took the time to ask yourself how the legacy of the ancient Greek has an impact on your life? Or even how it connects to your everyday life? Or perhaps relate it to your own culture? Not many of us do. As I have done quite a bit of research over the past few weeks on the ancient Greeks, I have found that it has a major impact on my everyday lifestyles. One of the many ways, and by far one of the most important things the Greeks have come up with is democracy. As many of you may know the word democracy comes from two Greek words, “demos” meaning the people, and “kratia” meaning power of authority. Democracy is so important because it provides a form of government that gives power to the people. With that being said it allows you and I the right as a citizen at the age of 18 to take part in deciding important political decisions. It gives every citizen the right as an individual the chance to vote and your vote being equal to value as everyone else who votes. Transportation is something everyone of uses everyday of the week to get our way around. How we get to school everyday and get a good education, how we get to work so we can have money for our needs and families, it's how we still see family and friends that lives hours and hours away. It's a way of getting places we need to be. Roads also makes it easier to get where we are going quicker. Think about how helpfully that is when someone is hurt, it provides a easy way to get to the people in need of help. If you really think about how much roads have such a great impact it provides each and everyone of us a great amount of safety. Meaning that when we are unprotected or in uncomfortable situations such as break ins and robbery we have people that can be there in seconds to get us out of
