As The movie “The Way, Way Back” is an excellent coming-of-age movie about a young boy, Duncan, who goes on a family vacation with his mother and his mom’s boyfriend, Trent. From the start of the movie, you see that Duncan has such low self-confidence because Trent severely belittles Duncan. As the film progresses, we see Duncan grow more confident, mature and social through his summer job at a waterpark. He meets many individuals throughout the movie who motivate him to open up and be himself, and tell him that Trent was wrong about him. I chose to read Matt a Seitz’s review on rogerebert.com, a very reputable movie critique website. I found myself being impressed with his review. I thought he made strong arguments and gave excellent examples from the film. I want to re-watch the film after reading the review because he definitely persuaded me to look at the movie …show more content…
He looks at scenes with a different perspective and frame of reference. For instance, in the first scene of the movie, Seitz explains the technical strategy for filming. He said, “…he demands that Duncan rate himself on a one-to-ten scale. Trent is represented solely through shots of his eyes reflected in the car's rearview mirror. This technique puts us in the hero's shoes, and visually as well as verbally establishes that this movie is about getting over the obsession with how others see you, and deciding to see yourself more charitably”. While watching that movie, I never thought about that scene having any sort of technical strategy, but after reading this review, I see why it makes sense. By having an insightful interpretation of the scene, it helped readers understand the movie’s foresight strategy and why this scene was crucial to the movie. The review made this film more interesting because we were able to understand exactly why scenes were essential to the

The film The Liberator portrays the life of Simon Bolivar, an influential activist in the revolutions against the Spanish Empire in South America. The movie does a great job in displaying the many aspects of Simon Bolivar, what he stood for and the way he felt towards his people. Like the majority of films this The Liberator has its flaws.
Which Way Home by director Rebecca Cammisa was a heartfelt story that puts a face on illegal immigration, and follows Kevin among others in search for a better future. This film is a good overlook of some of the inhumane things migrant children from Central America are exposed to, and the illusive hopes and dreams many foreigners have when coming to The United States of America. Some of the push factors, like leaving a life of economic disparity are shown by those followed in the documentary. It is also related to the book of Enrique’s Journey by Sonia Nazario by fulfilling the emptiness many of the children have when they are left behind in Central America. This film shows some issues Mexico has with its own influx

Director Christopher Nolan′s film Memento (2000), is loosely based from the concept of a short story named Memento Mori written by his brother Jonathan. This story is about a man named Leonard Shelby who is suffering from anterograde amnesia, which is a loss of ability to create new memories after the event that caused the amnesia, leading to a partial or complete inability to recall the recent past, while long term memories from before the event remain intact. Leonard was hit over the head during an attack which resulted in his wife being raped and murdered. With the help of contact named Teddy and a bartender named Natalie, Leonard set out for revenge. Since the attack Leonard has set out to exact revenge on the man who has caused him suffering. He helps himself by writing notes, taking photographs, and tattooing himself with important notes and facts. An analysis of the film Memento reveals the use of film techniques such as editing, non-linear storytelling, symbolism, director's style, musical score, color, and cinematography that creates an intellectual stimulant that has the viewer deciphering a puzzle in a reversed chronological order.

In the movie, "The Equalizer" by Antoine Furqua starring Denzel Washington as Robert McCall is the action packed movie about a guy who lives his life clockwork whether he eating at a diner or working at the home depot store. In this action packed movie, Robert McCall past that he was trying to get way from is reawakened as he tries to help out Teri from the Russian Mafia. Due to the film’s quality and interest it became an award winning film. The film had excellent sound effects such as the battle scenes. The image quality was also outstanding; it used many different angles to depict the actor to make you feel involved in the scenes. In the action scenes the most common viewpoint used was a close up shot which allows the audience to see and feel the intensity of the scene. The second viewpoint mostly used was a tracking shot due to the actors c...
I have to disagree with both of these reviews. I believe that the story was brilliantly written and the cinematography was beautiful. This movie touched me and had me in tears, which believe me is hard to do. I do agree with the New York Times and New Yorker that it was a little dragged out and that Kiera Knightly's acting was over rated. Other than that, I would defiantly recommend this movie.
A movie that almost perfectly intertwines social work related issues and their various aspects into the storyline would be the 2009 movie The Blind Side. The movie follows Michael Oher; a boy living under harsh conditions at home that eventually lead him to be homeless. When spotted by a woman named Leigh Anne Tuohy, she takes him in and assists him in becoming a pro-football player (“The Blind Side (2009),” n.d.). The issues faced in the movie by Oher are reminiscent of issues dealt with by social workers, homelessness and child neglect being a few. For example, issues presented in the film that emphasizes social work-related problems are seen when Leigh goes to visit Michael’s mother, who is a drug addict, which is what led to Michael being
Imagine the happy and sugar coated world of a Disney movie. Multiply that times ten during a time of deep racial turmoil in the South. “Song of the South”, directed by Wilfred Jackson and Harve Foster, is an almost painfully sweet story of friendship between a white little boy and his old colored friend, Uncle Remus. Full of forced heartwarming and sensitive moments, it’s difficult to get through this movie without wanting to close your eyes and take a nap. It is not, in fact, "mighty satisfactual.
For this assignment, the movie “The Help” was chosen to review and analyze because it presents a story of fighting injustice through diverse ways. The three main characters of the movie are Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, a young white woman, Aibileen Clark, and Minny Jackson, two colored maids. Throughout the story, we follow these three women as they are brought together to record colored maids’ stories about their experiences working for the white families of Jackson. The movie explores the social inequalities such as racism and segregation between African Americans and whites during the 1960s in Jackson, Mississippi.
“Home Alone” is a brilliant, sweet, and downright hilarious Christmas film. From the witty child who is mistakenly forgotten at home while the rest of the family flies to Paris, to the heartwarming ending, it shows us of how chaotic yet silly Christmas and family can really be. The title alone reminds us of how scary being left alone as a child could be. Although being left alone could be an ultimate disaster, there are also many advantages taken up by the especially devious child left behind.
