In this action packed movie, Robert McCall past that he was trying to get way from is reawakened as he tries to help out Teri from the Russian Mafia. "The Equalizer" is a good movie because of the well-developed plot, actors, and the action that brings the movie together. The well-developed plot of the movie makes this good because it was fast paced action packed and how unique Robert is. At first, the movie starts off being slow allowing getting a good perspective of how Robert lives his life. As Robert McCall appears as a humble working man at home depot where he is highly respected by his co-work. That when Roberts meets Alina who he befriends and this is where the movie starts to climax as Robert start to learn about Alina life, and that when Robert finds out that Alina is a prostitute for the Russian mafia which they beat Alina and put her in the hospital. This, when the plot develop more when you get to see Robert character evolve back to his past life as believes it his duty to try to help Alina from the Russian Mafia. Another reason why the movie is good is because of the A-list actor that betrayed their characters. What makes "The Equalizer" an A- list movie is how well Denzel Washington betrayed Robert McCall so well throughout this movie. In the movie, you can see that Denzel Washington took this character and transform it into a whole different character. How throughout the movie Denzel Washington was able to time and visuals how long it would take for him to murder the Russian Mafia. Also what also make Denzel stand out in this movie is how calm he was as a character when he was being chased and followed in the movie. Also how well Chloe Grace Moretz played her character. Chloe Grace Moretz really did display a great job with this character in the movie. How she displayed the role of being innocent but driven down the wrong path you can really see the movie she wants to escapes. The fact considering her situation that she is own by the Russian mafia really showed what prostitution is. Chloe Grace Moretz in this movie was able to shed the light on how there are people out there like her that want to escape but don't have the means to Finally what really make "The Equalizer" outstanding are the actions that were packed into this two-hour movie.
The action in this movie had a certain part that the director Antoine Furqua wants you to pay attention to the most. For insistences the director made a very specific angle cut like the eye level view of Robert McCall when he was able to locate the Russian mafia who harm Alan. The lighting was bright and it focuses on the movement of Robert McCall as he was looking around the as he was observing what weapons he would use. Then the director also used wanted the sound effects to be heard throughout the action scene. The sound effect involved the sound of tearing flesh, screams, and gun shots which the director wants us to heard so we can focus on how serious this scene
is. In conclusion, the movie "The Equalizer" is a unique and original movie when it comes to action. The movie "The Equalizer" keeps you guessing about the life that Robert McCall is trying displayed and prove. The scene that was filled with action draws you in from started to finish and the sounds are cringing. Also how well the actor was able to transform their character in the movie to making you understand what goes on in the world. This is the reason why this action packed movie is irresistible.
The sound used in this scene are all diegetic, the sounds of gunfire and explosions show that the characters in this scene are in very real danger of being shot or blown up, this helps the viewer develop a more personal connection with the characters since the scene is towards the end of the film, the viewer has developed a personal connection with the characters and do not want them to die. The diegetic sounds of military personnel can be heard, this is used to show the urgency that the military personnel have to get The Sapphires and Dave out of the dangerous situation. This scene is used to emphasise the danger that Dave and The Sapphires are in very real and very lethal danger, the mixture of sinister camera angles to emphasise the visual danger that the characters are in to the inhospitable sounds portrayed by the scene to highlight the explosive danger that the characters are in. The lighting used features the darkness and the difficulty to see due to the night sky.
Me, Earl and the Dying Girl started off in the most boring way possible. Narration and a dolly in on Greg, played by Thomas Mann, typing on his computer. These days I’ve been paying particular attention on the very first 10 minutes of a film. Does it grab me? Do I get so deep into the story that I don’t want out? Am I totally mesmerized? The first minutes of this film was none of the above. How boring to start off with narration. Films are supposed to be action heavy. An Auteur tells a story with pictures not words. And this one started off with nothing but words, then backed up those words with type on a computer screen. How lame can you get.
For my final essay, I have chosen the movie “Fatal Attraction”, and I will focus on Alex Forrest and her mental disorder. Borderline Personality was displayed in the movie and Alex had almost every symptom of this disorder. Throughout this essay, I will be discussing Alex’s characteristics, intelligence, motivation, stress, social influences and/ or personality theories, treatment, and if the depiction of the disorder and treatment is consistent with what was discussed and read in the course.
Relationships are complicated, not every relationship will last, and this seems to be the most apparent with romantic relationships, as these types of relationships two partners will often come together and open up to each other and become very close. Every relationship needs effective communication, and this is evident in the film, The Breakup; starring Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughn. This film ties in with Interpersonal Communications very well as it portrays its message of poor communication very well. Models of Relational Dynamics, couples conflict styles, crazymakers, and conflict in relational systems are some of the topics that the film perfectly depicts.
In many ways, the movie "Call Me" portrays prostitutes and the world of prostitution accurately, however, in the many ways it is very inaccurate. Based on movies, articles, television shows, and class discussions it is clear that the world of prostitution is often misunderstood and misrepresented.
The physical description of Robert obviously helps to visualize him and how he might carry himself. “This blind man was late forties, a heavy-set, balding man with stooped shoulders, as if he carried a great weight there. He wore brown slacks, brown shoes, a light-brown shirt, a tie, a sports coat” (Carver 107). Carver also gives us details of Roberts booming voice and friendly demeanor. These descriptions along with certain mannerisms help to create a mental image of the way Robert behaves. “He lifted his beard, sniffed it, and let it fall” (Carver 109). These subtle details makes a huge difference when reading. Just that little mannerism of Robert playing with his beard few times throughout the story better allows the reader to picture how he moves and interacts with the narrator while conversing. The way Robert continues to call the narrator “bub” is another unique detail of his character. Somehow, it fits his big friendly demeanor so well. This seems to be such a simple but effective way to create a unique characteristic for the reader. His calmness and ability to cope with the narrators sarcastic remarks successfully displays Robert as the compassionate and patient man that Carver intended to
...ry there are many instances in which the narrator seems to dislike Robert, in which case it is because he is “blind”. Not only is he blinded in the way that he cannot understand Robert, but it leads him to believe that Robert is not human at all because of his disability that he possess. The narrator develops with the aid of Robert, to see Robert as an actual human being. Raymond Carver gives the narrator a transformation through characterization as well as the aid of Robert to show his development and progression throughout the story.
The film The Liberator portrays the life of Simon Bolivar, an influential activist in the revolutions against the Spanish Empire in South America. The movie does a great job in displaying the many aspects of Simon Bolivar, what he stood for and the way he felt towards his people. Like the majority of films this The Liberator has its flaws.
Therefore, it is possible to notice how the cinematography, the mise-en-scene and the editing are used to resemble the peculiarities of the space in which the actions are taking place. For instance, the first part is characterized by long pan or tilt shots, the camera is steady but still manages to follow the characters actions. The editing points to the linear occurring of the events. Also, the characters and the objects are usually methodically placed in the scene. All of the elements are used to convey the rigid organization, efficiency and control typical of the military environment. On the other hand, in the second part, there are usually shorter shots and steadicam shots. The camera is free to investigate the space of action. Here, the editing is used to create a dynamic perception of the events. In this way Kubrick is able to bring in the spectators’ minds the chaotic reality of the war. Moreover, colors become another tool to communicate to the audience this sort of split within the film. In fact, after Pyle’s death the viewer can notice how those metallic and cold colors, that are present at the beginning of the film, shift into wormer colors. It is actually through Pyle’s suicide that the the spectator gets this switch. In that scene the dark red blood stains, and ideologically violates, the cold white tiles of the bathroom. This film is also different on
In 2001, one of the most memorable performance’s in Hollywood was Honored with an Academy Award, for Best Actor In A Leading Role. The Oscar, went to Denzel Washington, for is amazing performance in Training Day. A powerful departure from his good guy roles, Denzel Washington, plays Alonzo Harris, a street smart, crocked, undercover narc, out on the mission to save his ass, from the Russian mob. On the day in question, he is giving rookie cop Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawke) a chance to prove himself worthy to be a part of his elite squad of undercover narcotics officers.
For this assignment, I decided to do my film review on To Kill a Mockingbird (Mulligan, R., & Pakula, A. (Directors). (1962). To Kill a Mockingbird[Motion picture on VHS]. United States of America.) I have a personal connection to this film because it is one of my most beloved novels by Harper Lee. I have never watched the film so it was a nice experience to see the characters I have loved for years come to life just before my eyes. The film particularly focuses on a white family living in the South of the United States in the 1930s. The two siblings, Jem and Scout Finch, undergo major changes while experiencing evil and injustice in their small town of Maycomb. Jem and Scout’s father is named Atticus and he is a well-respected man in the town as well as being a lawyer.
A movie that almost perfectly intertwines social work related issues and their various aspects into the storyline would be the 2009 movie The Blind Side. The movie follows Michael Oher; a boy living under harsh conditions at home that eventually lead him to be homeless. When spotted by a woman named Leigh Anne Tuohy, she takes him in and assists him in becoming a pro-football player (“The Blind Side (2009),” n.d.). The issues faced in the movie by Oher are reminiscent of issues dealt with by social workers, homelessness and child neglect being a few. For example, issues presented in the film that emphasizes social work-related problems are seen when Leigh goes to visit Michael’s mother, who is a drug addict, which is what led to Michael being
For this assignment, the movie “The Help” was chosen to review and analyze because it presents a story of fighting injustice through diverse ways. The three main characters of the movie are Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, a young white woman, Aibileen Clark, and Minny Jackson, two colored maids. Throughout the story, we follow these three women as they are brought together to record colored maids’ stories about their experiences working for the white families of Jackson. The movie explores the social inequalities such as racism and segregation between African Americans and whites during the 1960s in Jackson, Mississippi.
The film, Of Two Minds, is based on real life accounts of individuals living with bipolar disorder. Before watching this film, I had an idea of what bipolar disorder is , but after viewing this film I was completely mistaken. Previously, I thought being bipolar was going from a “normal” mood to an angry or sad mood in a matter of seconds and could be simply fixed by taking medicine. But my previous thoughts were completely wrong and bipolar disorder is very serious and complicated. I didn’t know the severity of this disease and I think a lot of the general public is uneducated about bipolar disorder as well as mental illness. Terri Cheney describes having bipolar disorder as, “Take the best day you ever had and multiply it by a million, it 's like a flu but one hundred times worse. It 's having flu in your mind."
Although admittedly some scenes have a comical side to them, Besson's fast paced action and gruesome images hold the tension and suspense brilliantly. His use of close-ups and camera movements, especially the subjective stance used by the victim, convey the feelings felt by the characters and the way in which they behave. Sound plays a crucial role in the opening sequence because, in my view, it is used to control the level of suspense and intrigue.
