In his autobiography, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, Douglass recalls his time as a slave and his journey to freedom. Frederick Douglass expresses the attitudes he felt like fear, sympathy, and gratefulness, but most importantly disgust. His disgust came from the whites continuously making immoral decisions while consciously knowing it was wrong, also by separating the blacks from their families and friends, and finally, harshly abusing the African American slaves.

I think this quotation means that a person has to be determined and focused, and the person has to push him- or herself to get things accomplished in life. He accomplished many things in life by wanting a change; he felt a need to change the state of ignorance when it comes to slavery. His childhood, his accomplishments, and his education were ways he began to make a change.
