My research paper is going to focus on the mudpuppy. I think many people like the mudpuppy because you can see them around this area. The mudpuppy is in the tank that I was taking care of. I’ll go into detail a little bit about the mudpuppy and tell some facts about where they came from and so on. Mudpuppies are native to this area so it was cool to take care of something that’s around here.
The mudpuppy to me is one of my favorite animals that live under water. The mudpuppy is related to amphibians. One thing that makes the mudpuppy different is that their gills never go away like other amphibians gills do. There gills kind of look like bushes underwater just swaying around. According to “National Geographic” they say that, “mudpuppies are easily distinguishable by their bushy, red external gills, which they grow as larva and never lose. They have flat heads, wide tails, stubby les, and feet with four distinct toes. Their bodies are gray or brownish-gray with blue- black spots” (1). They have almost all the same characteristics as salamanders do: like toes and the patterns on their bodies. According to the book “A Natural History of Amphibians” the authors Robert C. Stebbins and Nathan W. Cohen talk about the skin of amphibians and they said,
“The skin of amphibians is water permeable, well supplied with glands, and often colorful, with the colors and patterns of many salamanders and anurans rivaling those of brightly colored birds. It performs many functions. It protects against abrasion and pathogens, serves as a respiratory membrane, perhaps marginally so in caecilians, absorbs and releases water, provides some dry-land species during droughts with a water-loss-resistant cocoon, and through color change (in some species) a...

...ank you have to make sure that the right temperature stays in the tank because if the water gets to hot they wont really have a place to go too, so they could end up over heating and could die. It is also important to have the right type of food for them as well. They like to eat worms, squid, and sometimes other fish.
In conclusion, taking care of the mudpuppy is not that hard of a job. As long as you have the right kind of tank, shelter, food, etc. you’ll be able to take care of your own mudpuppy. I also gave some background information that will also help if you decide to get your own mudpuppy.

The Longnose Gar and Mudpuppy are both native species that can be found in Ohio. The Gar gets its name from the long nose that is very similar looking to a beak of a bird. The Gar in the lab is brownish grey with black spots, but in the wild they do have a range of colors. Their size is often a wide range as well. Some Longnose Gars can grow to be up to 6ft, but it is common for them to be between 3 and 4 feet long (Groves ). The gar in this lab is about a foot long, so smaller than those in the wild. The other animal in the tank is the mudpuppy. Mudpuppies are common all over the northeast United States. They are also called the waterdog which is because they are the only salamander that makes noise (National geographic: Mudpuppy). They mainly stay at the bottom of the lakes and body of water where they feed. Both the mudpuppy and the Longnose gar’s conservation status are common.
Although the Hippocampus spp. are placed into the same class as other organisms more traditionally viewed as fish, their morphology bears distinct differences in comparison to other bony fish. The various species belonging under the genus Hippocampus range in maximum size from 20 mm to 300 mm(Foster 8). Their physical appearance is distinct from other members of its class due to their "horse-like head, monkey-like tail, and kangaroo-like pouch."( Lourie et al 12) Morphologically, seahorses do not have scales like traditional fish, but rather posses bony plates covered by skin. The appearance of bony extrusions and skin ...
The “water bear” is a common name for a group of a little over 100 genera of protozoans grouped under the Phylum Tardigrada and is a relative of the Phylum Arthropoda. The phylum Tardigrada contains over 1000 species, and is grouped into three classes. There are two main classes the Heterotarigrada ad the Eutardigrada. The last is the Mesotardigrada and contains only one species, that was discovered in a sulfur spring in Japan 1937, and has not been seen since. “Water bears” are, as with most species, separated into groups by characteristics and more recently molecular genetic methods. The Heterotarigrada are known mainly for their hair like tufts on appendages and hard-undivided flattened scales. The Eutardigrada are known as “naked tardigrades” because they lack the hard scales or have several separate plates. Tardigrades are then divide further into orders by comparing groups for cuticle appearance, feeding tube, claws, and other defining features (Michalczyk, 2014).

This creature can grow up to 7 plus feet and can weigh up to 300 pounds. They are rarely seen in the great lakes, however, this is their natural habitat. These fish often live on the bottom of the lake and often coast the shoreline. This particular type of fish tries to avoid salt water because they can get eaten by larger fish like sharks. This fish is typically solid dark brown in color with a bright white belly. The Lake Sturgeon was once apart of the major northern lakes like the Great Lakes, Hudson Bay, and the Mississippi River.¨ They also have been found in 19-20 different States. These fish are sometimes referred to as ¨Freshwater Monsters¨¨ (http://www.britannica.com/animal/sturgeon-fish) . The Sturgeon is a very large fish and it doesn't have many predators the only other large fish that can kill it is a large shark or killer whale.
In conclusion, turtles are reptiles. They are endangered species. This is why it is so important to feed turtles a healthy diet so that they survive. They can die if they are not fed the right, healthy food. It is very important what food the turtle eats. Giving turtles healthy food and more calcium can affect the behavior of pet turtles. This is why they need to have a balance diet of protein, calcium and vitamins. Calcium and protein should be what they mostly eat because it it is the most important nutrient for turtles. The calcium and protein can help the shell become strong especially cause they need their shell to survive. When they don’t get fed the way they want they go on a hunger strike. They could go a long time without eating foods.
The organisms of focus are within Class Reptilia, Order Squamata, or squamate reptiles. Squamate reptiles are commonly known as lizards, snakes, or amphisbaenians (legless lizards). These organisms have excellent methods to maintain body temperature and adaptations that provide the animal with tools for successful living in a wide range of environments. General characteristics of squamate reptiles are: keratinized scales, which aids to resist desiccation; uric acid excretion, which minimizes water loss; and are poikilothermic and ectothermic, meaning the animal will thermo-regulate based on its habitat and its body temperature will vary in response to ambient temperatures of the environment.
Frogs live on every continent except Antarctica, but tropical regions have the largest amount. Like all amphibians, frogs spend half their lives near water because they must return to the water to lay their eggs. Frogs live underwater mostly when the are growing up to be an adult frog and when they are laying their eggs. When they hatch under water they are tadpoles and the breath with gills and swim using a tail. As they mature they loose their tail and they develop to be able to breathe air. During an extensive period of heat, a drought, frogs can enter a period of damancy similar to hibernation called starvation. Most of the frogs live in tropical and semitropical regions, most species of frogs breed in the spring or in early summer. Although the different species my vary in size and color, mostly all frogs have basic body structure. They have large hind legs, short front legs and flat head and body with no neck.
A clear contrast for dogs and fish are their habitat. This is probably the most notable contrast when considering having a dog or a fish as a pet. A fish has to live in an underwater habitat. This habitat can be as extreme as a wall to wall tank or as mundane as a small bowl on a desktop . Either way, this habitat causes the owner to incur extra expenses when purchasing a suitable tank, water, and
Frogs are amphibians in the order Anura. The order Anura is broken down into 22 different families of frogs and toads. Although they belong to the same order, frogs and toads are different in a lot of ways. Some of the more distinct differences are their skin and where they live. Frogs usually have smooth moist skin and toads usually have dry watery looking skin. Frogs spend most of their lives in or near water and toads spend more time on land. Amphibian means "double life." Frogs and toads each have two parts to their lives: when they live on water and when they live land. A frog's life starts in the water when it is hatched from an egg as a tadpole. A tadpole looks very different from an adult frog. A tadpole has a tail, no limbs, and breathes through gills. After a while the tadpole goes through metamorphosis. During the change the frog grows limbs, the tail disappears, it uses lungs to breathe, and it doesn't have to live in water anymore. As a tadpole, the frog feeds mostly on vegetation. The tadpoles have a small rasping mouth suited especially for scraping algea from the bottom of ponds. Depending on the species, it can take a few weeks to a year or more for the tadpoles to become fully grown. Not all frogs hatch as tadpoles. Some species of frogs hatch as froglets. Froglets look just like adult frogs but are a lot smaller. Froglets don't go through a metamophosis. Most species that hatch as froglets are found in dry places. Frogs who live in dry places where rains are seasonal have to grow up quickly because a tadpole will die if their temporary pond dries up. Adult frogs can live in water or on land, but it always needs to be near water so its respiratory organs don't dry out.
Fish make amazing pets, some reasons why they make great pets include that fish are known to have a “calming effect” on humans, fish are also way less expensive than other pets, fish also don't suffer separation anxiety like other pets do, they are also really quiet, actually fish are silent, fish are very unique.
Anyone can keep fishes , no matter how small their home , and they are particularly suitable for apartment-dwellers , especially those in highrise blocks where the keeping of other pets may be impractical or even prohibited . There are other advantages too ; Fish won't need exercising , They do not disturb your home with messy fur or feathers , They can not escape like other pet reptiles , They can not make noises . All you need is a space to put your aquarium . Aquariums require a few minutes of your attention daily . Although it depends on which aquarium type you choose , it won't cost so much money . Piranhas are tropical freshwater fishes , you don't need to buy so many complex machines . As you start your aquarium hobby you will acquire new knowledge and skills . For example the fishes behaviour , biology , their nature , ecology and so . Piranha.org will help your knowledge about Piranhas . Also don't forget fish keeping is an ideal way to introduce a young person to animal care . When you are selecting your aquarium for your piranhas you will meet three major criteria to consider . Shape , Size And Construction . Fish require oxygen for respiration , while selecting your aquarium tanks let the surface larger this helps the carbon dioxide leave from the tank . Fish produce carbon dioxide as a waste product of their metabolism , you should rapidly get rid off carbon dioxide . There are 2 main ways to get rid off carbondioxide one is larger surface and the other is air stones . There is a kind of stone which you can find in every aqua hobby shop , and also there is a pumping device this pumps the air , when you connect this two devices together and put the airstone part in the aquarium they will produce enough oxygen for your fish and will make bubbles . This bubbles makes oxygen in the water and kills carbondioxide . We will review this later on the step by step aquarium making part later .
I'm swimming about and see eight other fish swim around me. The thermometer reads 72 degree Fahrenheit, but the cold water suits me just fine. There are white, black, and gray pebbles all over the bottom of the tank which collects the deserted food particles. I accidentally suck up a small pebble with the fish food I tried eating from the bottom of the tank.
One class pet suggestion is a pet betta fish. To begin with, Betta Fish need to be fed two pellets a day, twice a day. Also, Betta Fish’s habitat is just an inexpensive fish bowl. In like manner, there is no need to worry about the fish’s sleeping needs because Betta Fish sleep with their eyes open. In addition, Betta Fish do not need any activities; however, the owner can buy extra toys if they want their Betta Fish feel less bored. In the same fashion, Betta Fish do not have safety requirements. Betta Fish are extremely safe to have; however, important to realize that people need to be aware not to spill the water, thus leaving the fish dead. Also need to be
