Later in Sweeney Todd Sondheim continues to play with the techniques of Brech and Weill to shock his audience. The well-known Act I closing song, “A Little Priest”, is the moment when Sweeney and his partner in crime Mrs. Lovett conspire to bake Sweeney’s victims into meat pies. This gruesome song could be very appalling if it was not set to an up-tempo waltz in which Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett joke about which profession would make the most delicious pie filling. The waltz style is traditionally thought of as a style of love, so the harsh contradiction with lyrics about conspiring murder is what makes the song very memorable (Taylor 85). This juxtaposition of style and lyrics is exactly what Weill and Brecht accomplished in Threepenny. This technique
Cantecul Miresei, a piece also known as “Bride’s Song” is a Romanian piece, which by the english title is used for weddings. The ensemble playing it consists primarily of a brass sections with trumpets, tubas, trombones, and baritones, giving allowing the melody to be doubled in a higher and lower octave. The lower instruments also articulate the polymeter structure: triple meter with 2 extra beats. This meter is made more prominent by the scratch board and percussion. The dynamics stay mostly constant, until the closing of the piece where the quick diminuendo leads to nothing and the tempo stays constant. The melody travels between octaves, first starting with the trumpets, making it bright and piercing, virtually impossible to mistake. The

My first song I´ve chosen is Sean McGee, song titled My Story. Mainly the song is about him facing different struggles, obstacles, and all the horrible things and situations he´s been in throughout his life. I can connect to this song and the lyrics for many reasons. One of his lines were ¨Do you know how it feels to be left out in the rain¨? And I have faced times like this when I feel like no one is there or have my back, and in the line he´s trying express how it feels to have nobody and be all alone. Also throughout this song he expresses how everyday you wake up your face with something rather it's just a minor issue or something that will greatly impact your life.
Song of Ariran is a collaborative work of great importance. The book, written by Nym Wales, is a personal account of Kim San, who was a Korean rebel leader based in China. San was fighting the Japanese occupation of his country. The book emerged out of Wales’ interviews with San, which took place in the summer of 1937. While Wales admits that he was not entirely interested in devoting his time and energies to an in depth investigation, he was soon won over by San. According to Wales, even though he had come to China to study China, she could not help but want to write a book about the fascinating Korean revolutionary leader Kim San, and this is exactly what she did by conducting in depth interviews with San.
How do we make the leap from child to adult? What obstacles must we overcome? Who can reform and influence our decisions, the very decisions that will shape who we become?A child is innocent from day one, but as one ages it starts to lose its significance and at some point in life and it must be thrown away. In “Bless Me, Ultima” by Rudolfo Anaya, Antonio encounters many obstacles that chip away at his innocence which forces him to question God’s authority and in justice in the world, such as the death of Lupito, Narciso, and Florence. Antonio is forced to endure difficult experiences too early in life, causing a premature loss of innocence.

Bob Marley’s redemption song is emphatically a protest against discrimination. He used his music to bring to the forefront the oppression of the people of African descent. Burke (2014) explained, “Marley advocated freedom for all people and in “Redemption Song,” Marley sang “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery/ none but ourselves can free our minds.” Marley called upon the individual to rid him or herself from the constraints prohibiting freedom”. “The United States population has increased and is consistently growing. We live in a society of cultures and subcultures that are rich with differences. The more we are exposed to, learn about, understand, and tolerate that which is different from us, the more harmonious a society we create,” Manvell (2012).
Chanticleer a nice poor old guy, father of two daughters, and husband of many wives. The article “Nun’s Priest’s Tale” states, “The protagonist of this mock-heroic story is Chanticleer, a rooster with seven wives, foremost among them the hen Pertelote. Pertelote dismisses Chanticleer's dream of being attacked and tells him to go about his business.” Chanticleer has one very close wife, and he tells her what he dreamt but she just thinks that he is sick. The rooster believes his dream means something and he will not stop till he finds out what that is. Every Sunday the cock would sing like no other rooster, coming from a father who too sang astonishing. One day he dreamt about a fox trying kill him, and said “One should never be too careless
The Nun’s Priest Tale is a mock-heroic because the tale tells a conventional topics in the style of an epic. One example of this occurs at the beginning at the first introduces the scenery of the tale. The tale takes place in a small cottage where a widowed woman lives with her daughters and with a few possessions. The grandiloquent style of writing used by the priest in this tale disagrees with the simple setting where the tale occurs. The tale takes place in a yard, instead of a fancier place where an epic would usually be set in. The priest uses a trivial animal such as a chicken instead of an expected character such a s courageous knight. The chicken, possesses characteristics that a hero of an epic would have. The priest also ridicules
Told by a charming priest and kindly man, The Nun’s Priest’s Tale is a beast fable in Chaucer’s genius framed narrative, The Canterbury Tales. Written in the late 14th century, The Nun’s Priest’s Tale is a fable about an all too egotistic rooster named Chanticleer who dreams of his impending doom which takes the form of a beast. Deeply troubled, he seeks the consolation of other wise barn animals and his favorite wife, Pertelote. Being a beast fable, the Nun’s Priest mocks the Court World by lowering nobles to the level of animals to be mocked. As this fable displays that animals act like humans is to also imply that humans, namely people of the court, act like animals.
Critics call Twelfth Night one of William Shakespeare’s most poetic and musical plays. Shakespeare writes poetic lines for the major characters, Viola, Orsino, and Olivia, and gives the Fool, and other minor characters, songs to sing throughout the play. The particularly romantic lines of the play make it seem as if the characters are professional poets themselves. Shakespeare also uses the music and poetry in Twelfth Night to foreshadow what is going to happen for the rest of the performance and to reveal major themes in the play. Music and poetry become major characters in the play themselves.
During the 16th century, England was experiencing economic and population growth that sparked the Renaissance style of writing. In A Hymn to God the Father written by English poet John Donne, many issues are addressed about the Christian faith while God’s authority is challenged. When analyzing A Hymn to God the Father, the reader is able to understand the importance of Christianity during the 1600s and how it shaped the English culture.
I was born on June 25th, 1999. The song that was number one out on my birthday was, ‘If You Had My Love’, by Jennifer Lopez. I think the message of this song is about a girl who has been cheated on and because of this she demands that she is treated right. Part of the lyrics from this song is, “Now if I gave you me, this is how it's got to be. First, I won't take you cheatin' on me. Tell me who can I trust if I can't trust in you and I refuse to let you play me for a fool.” Jennifer Lopez mentions that if she gave herself to him, she wants the relationship to have trust in each other, and does not want him to use her or be cheated on. Her lyrics sound like she has been hurt before and does not want to be hurt anymore. “I don't want you, trying to get with me and I end up unhappy (Don't need the hurt and I don't need the pain)” I connect with this lyric because I have dated guys before Aaron and
