Birdman In the last few months of every year, movies are released in the hope of gaining award recognition. More often than not, the Academy hopefuls that fill out the marquee signs on theaters at the start of winter, are films that have a serious message to portray and are artfully crafted by the best that Hollywood has to offer. All of that is true for Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s, Academy Award nominated and winning, film Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), except for the content of his film was waving a giant middle finger at mainstream Hollywood. For that is why it is surprising Birdman was nominated for nine Academy Awards, and took home four-best directing, best picture, best writing, and best cinematography. Fox Searchlight released the film in late 2014, just in time to qualify for for the upcoming Academy Awards, and it was met with critical praise. The film is a visual masterpiece The drama, which felt more like a dark comedy, centered …show more content…
Through out the film there are various rants, by characters, about the garbage that is being produced and how there is no meaning to the films or plays being made anymore. That message is made quite clear by the expert directing of Alejandro G. Iñárritu, this is one of the few films that will be remembered for years because of the astonishing end result. Iñárritu spent over a year rehearsing this film with the actors on a sound stage so that he could get the timing right for the appearance of a single shot film, and it pays off wonderfully. Not once in the movie do you think it is not one fluid telling of a three day period. Iñárritu took home the best directing award because of his efforts on this film, and it is well deserved after watching Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), you will feel the same as if you had watch The Godfather for the first
When I decided to watch “The Antwone Fisher Story” I wasn’t really sure what I was about to watch. I had never heard about the movie before, but I am up for watching any movie that comes my way. It had a great story about Antwone Fisher’s struggles through life and how it has affected him in present time. How can I use what I have seen in this movie in my future classroom?
1.) Describe your experience watching The Birds. What about the film stood out to you? What did you find interesting, important, surprising and/or confusing?
Alfred Hitchcock’s unique sense of filmmaking and directing has allowed him to become a very famous and well known film maker of his time. He uses similar recurring themes, elements, and techniques in many of his films to engage the viewers in more than just the film, but the meaning and focus behind the story.
The film did win some oscars but they weren’t able to win several academy awards because of the breadth of ethical issues it covered- it was successful because it is both thought provoking and entertaining. Because of its different take on the subjects they mention in the film this film deserves the best film of 20th century award at the Cannes Film Festival. The film was very famous when it was released but soon after the reviews and interview from the filmmakers were released the audience really started to understood what the movie was all about. The film does have pros and cons to it but the pros totally make the cons looks small because of which the film is such a great classic movie which leaves a different and nice imagine on the audience’s mind after they watch it. People say he reviews sometimes ruin the movie but in this case the reviews and the interviews helped the movie for the
In one particular scene, director was truly a great one, featuring special focus on his dad life and the Colorado River. It was so cool to highlights of the movie by one of his favorite poem written by his dad when he was born, the Important Place. Also, this film was a good length, not excessively long but long enough to tell the story. This is really important today there were no such unwanted scene in the film, which literary the most closely and accurately delivered. In my opinion, this film is forced to possess the characters of a great aspect, and turns to make for quite the adventurous. There was no special character encounter rather than his dad, learned something from the secret Colorado River. Another great aspect of the film was the special footage that were introduce in this film was an enjoyable aspect to be a good documentary film, and that’s how this film is different from the rest.
Wings of Desire (1987), by Wim Wenders is a fantastical Franco-German romantic film that depicts the lives of those who populated Berlin during the time of Franco and the Berlin Wall that separated West and East Germany. In the film, reality is separated into two dimensions in which humans and angels are isolated from each other and exist on separate planes of existence. The angels gaze over the inhabitance of Berlin and attempt to comfort people in distress; however, because of their separate existences, the angels cannot influence the actions of the human world. Wenders noticeably relates the separation of existence between the angels and humans in Wings of Desire with the isolation felt by the people of West and East Berlin with his use of acting style, color grading, symbolism.
After watched the Shutter Island, I believe this film is combat against stigma of mental ill.
Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) is a fantastic film that combines seemingly disparate ideas into a coherent theme and narrative. The theme that seems so prevalent in the film is the struggle to move on and find love and admiration. The movie tries to understand this struggle by asking the question of what defines art and whether Hollywood-like spectacle approach to art is a good thing. The film also faces the viewer with the internal conflict that these characters face when having two types of personalities on and off the stage. The movie conveys this theme through its use of cinematography, acting and production design.
After the tragic events of 9/11 attacks in the United States, there has been over a hundred terrorism-themed films such as Black Hawk Down and American Sniper that portrays a generalization of Muslims with violence, uncivilized, and is described as crude villains (Aguayo, 2009). This has unfortunately affected the way the American public view the Muslims negatively, which in turn leads to discrimination, prejudice, and irrational fear of Muslims (Islamophobia). The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) stated that the American Sniper film has caused a significant rise in violent hate and racist threat targeting the Arab and Muslim-American communities due to the promulgation of anti-Muslim propaganda and bigotry (Khalek, 2015).
Love is a word that’s been both miss-used and over-used all at once. Romantic movies change our definition of and have a big impact on this definition greatly. There have been many movies and novels made over love, but never like this. “The Notebook” is a love story about unconditional love that two people have for each other. This emotionally, heart touching story will have your eyes blood-shot and burning from you not wanting to blink your eyes. This tremendously wonderful love story will have you not wanting to even miss a millisecond of this heart throbbing film. With many plot twists and many scenes that will have you falling off of your seat and you not having any nails by the end of the movie, this is the movie for you. This emotionally rich film is full of action, laughter, and romance, which is the perfect trio combination. This movie shows us how love can bind us together forever. This film went above and
despite him being my favorite director and I just watched it few weeks ago. By watching that film you can see his unique style and the technique he used to shot that film which is amazing.
If I had a children in my class with an exceptionality I would keep it
“Entertainment has to come hand in hand with a little bit of medicine, some people go to the movies to be reminded that everything’s okay. I don’t make those kinds of movies. That, to me, is a lie. Everything’s not okay.” - David Fincher. David Fincher is the director that I am choosing to homage for a number of reasons. I personally find his movies to be some of the deepest, most well made, and beautiful films in recent memory. However it is Fincher’s take on story telling and filmmaking in general that causes me to admire his films so much. This quote exemplifies that, and is something that I whole-heartedly agree with. I am and have always been extremely opinionated and open about my views on the world and I believe that artists have a responsibility to do what they can with their art to help improve the culture that they are helping to create. In this paper I will try to outline exactly how Fincher creates the masterpieces that he does and what I can take from that and apply to my films.
The Prestige is a movie about magicians that turn into enemies when a magician’s wife dies in an accident on stage. Angier’s wife dies when she is doing a trick with him and another magician Borden. Borden is possibly the one that caused her death depending on the kind of knot he tied for the trick. Throughout the movie we see several different parts of what we have seen or read in the recent chapters. Anywhere from love and attraction to aggression to the law; this movie seemed to have it all.
A Beautiful Mind may have been developed to be a crowd-pleaser as well as a tear-jerker, because you know this is a man’s life without falsities. It is blatant and true, that’s all. This film proves that there are still instances when Hollywood-produced, big budget movies are worth a viewer's investment of time and money.
