How often do we see bullying and turn a blind eye to it, participate, or watch and not speak out against it? Why is it that our generation thinks it’s okay to pick on someone for what they look like, what they like, or how they live their life?

Verbal bullying is name calling, teasing, making racist, sexist or homophobic jokes, remarks or teasing using sexually suggestive or abusive language, offensive remarks, taunting and threatening to cause harm. Physical bullying is hurting a person’s body or possessions such as hitting, kicking, pinching, spitting, tripping, pushing, taking or breaking someone’s things. Cyber bullying is any type of bullying that is carried out through an electronic medium. Cyber bullying is the most common type of bullying for our generation. “There are seven types of cyber bullying, text messaging, picture and video via mobile phone cameras, e-mail, chat-room, instant messaging, and via websites such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and the kik app. The following are some statics of cyber bullying from students: seventy-one point nine percent reported being cyber bullied once or twice in the school year, nineteen point six percent reported once or twice a month, five point three percent reported once or twice a week, and three point one percent reported almost everyday” (NCES 2013-329).
Bullying can occur during or after school. Most reported bullying happens at school, it can happen while on the way to or from school.
