Although Sherlock is evolving and adapting these interpretations do not alter or diminish who Sherlock truly is. Sherlock’s observant behavior and cunning ways have not changed, he has stayed recognizable, yet there are still changes being made to his character. Even though @Sherlockology is not as notable of a discourse community concerning Sherlock it is still valuable. @Sherlockology is just as credible of a discourse community as other ones. There cannot really be a right or wrong comment involving discourse communities unless someone is mentioning a fact and the fact is wrong. Arnold van Gennep’s rite of passage theory can be used to analyze the film known as Sherlock Holmes. Gennep used a scheme which consisted of 3 stages, those being separation, liminality, and incorporation (Nye 2008). It’s important to note that the first step in the rite of passage is clearly shown as Sherlock avoids contact with people for days.
