Theater Analysis The performance of Peter and the Starcatcher was at the Trustus theatre in Columbia, South Carolina, written by Rick Elice, and directed by Robert Richmond. Peter and the Starcatcher is an adult prequel to Peter Pan that is based on the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. The performance was about how an orphan boy found his name, Peter, and how so many people can be greedy and competitive over something small. Throughout this performance these actors, props, and costumes, made the play come to life.
One of the most important parts of the play would be the actors. They actually bring the characters to life. Each actor was picked specifically for their role or roles. The actor Cody Lovell played the character Prentiss.

One prop that was used to make the play come to life was just a simple piece of rope. The setting of the play was on two different ships, and rope was used to make the ship actually look like a ship. The rope hung down as if it was coming from the sail even though we couldn't see the actual sail. The rope was also used as a railing and doorways when Molly was following Alf (played by: Kevin Bush) and discovered the orphans. When Molly used the rope, she went to the upper part of the stage and picked up different sections of the rope with both hands to create a rectangle or door shape. When she did that, the actors on the lower part of the stage acted out what was going on in the different rooms. The rope was also used to move different parts of the ship for different things. At one part before the intermission, different pieces of the ship were pulled up to show this beautiful canvas, used to illustrate and show that the wind was picking up and getting dangerously fast. Another prop that wasn't as major as the rope but was used all throughout the play was the chest. In the beginning there were two chests, one had starstuff in it and was going on the ship called The Neverland. The other chest had sand and was put on The Wasp. The main chest that was used throughout the play was the one containing the starstuff. Using this chest brought about the theme of greediness is found in all. All of the character’s costumes in this performance fit in perfectly with the pirate theme, and all the costumes fit together well. One of the character’s costumes that looked great and fit well with the performance was Black Stache. He was the captain of The Wasp who had a bad attitude, was power hungry, and was filled with greed. His costume was black boots, khaki pants, a white shirt, with a tan vest and a red bandana around his head. Another costume that stood out was Peter, his costume was a white shirt, brown pants with a hole at the knee and black shoes. Every time Peter got nervous or scared, he would play with the hole at his knee while he pondered what to do. Part of Mrs.Bumbrake’s (Played by: Hunter Boyle) costume was actually used as a prop at the end of the performance to give it some comedic value. She and Alf were floating back using her underwear as a sail, but her actual costume was a long black dress, and she carried a black bag. The costumes made the play come to life by making the characters look
The choreography kept things interesting and the dances in a musical can make or break the performance. Overall, Cherie and Abby did an amazing job directing each person to have a place among a crowded stage. Last but not least, the costumes! This play was set in the 1890s, meaning it is very important to have correlating costumes so the audience can be aware of what time period they are in.
the play. It looks at the person he is and the person he becomes. It
Despite the provision of stage directions, however, a play is not simple to adapt to a cinematic form. Plays rely heavily on dialogue to communicate emotion to the reader whereas film allows for close visual representation. Filmmakers can explore creativity in adaptation in many ways unavailable and impractical in the theater. In order to maximize the emotional impact of a dramatic work, the filmmaking team can make use of several simple yet effective tools, such as the composition of frames and the variations of the camera shot. In the 1961 film adaptation of Lorraine Hansberry's groundbreaking play A Raisin in the Sun, directed by Daniel Petrie, the filmmakers use these techniques in creative ways to communica...
A significant aspect of the play is the acting and wardrobe, because it helps demonstrate the personalities of the characters.
In conclusion, this production was one of my favorites that I had ever seen. The storyline was interesting and intense throughout. The designers and actors brought the message across perfectly, which made the play a great success. There were a lot of messages portrayed in this play; however, I believe the most important would be the need for justice. It is important to give the people a fair trial and that it is dangerous to be stereotypical in life.
First impression of the play when I first walked in was one of confusion. The stage design was not distinguishable. I could not tell what was going on or what it was supposed to be. One thing I could
In the novel, Peter and the Starcatchers, starstuff has the power to corrupt people and make them into the most powerful person on earth. This starstuff comes from shooting stars and some stars fall on the earth. Starstuff can give humans the appearance of being a god, inspire fear in the people around them, and were always obeyed. The starstuff also made people feel smarter like they have more access to their own mind, they can see things they couldn't before, and they can understand what others can't. If a person has this power, they can also change the way other people around them feel. The people that prevent this from happening are called starcatchers. A starcatcher’s job is to collect this
The costumes which are used for this particular production are also essential in dramatizing the on-stage action.
Usually most windows on the set are there purely for decoration, but an actor made an entrance through a window and it was amazing. The stage was used entirely to make the show possible. At one point in the show most of the stage glides back and a screen in brought down and a projection of a boat is put up as these characters take the audience on a journey of getting a soul washed. The world was changed into a magical land with the screen replacing the set with the projections of the world that the audience was able to explore. There was a fog machine hidden and as we explored this new world.
The props set on stage included a wicker basket, some buckets (their only purpose is to be knocked over later in the production to provide one of the first jump-scares in the play), two chairs and a coat rail with multiple costumes hanging on it. The wicker basket is constantly used as multiple different things throughout the play, such as a table, bed, seats on a train, a trunk, pony and trap, and many more. The pony and trap was presented so that we believed it was a pony and trap, and not just a wicker basket. They did this by bouncing themselves up and down on the basket (to create the illusion of movement) and by using sound effects (such as horse hooves hitting the floor). Specific props were of particular note.
In the play he takes on the role of a character as well as taking on
Everyone in America works to make a living, well, almost everyone. Beneficial to many, though hated by more, welfare has become a central argument in American Politics. Welfare is not an old program in the United States. However, in the last quarter of a century there has been some excess controversy over the Welfare Budget.
The beauty of this particular show is the jarring realization that the placement of props tended to be sparse. For someone who has not seen the performance, this might seem like an impossible scenario. After all, The Lion King is known for being a Broadway hit and you cannot become a Broadway hit by having no props, right? Turns
In the play, all the characters understand their parts. This did a nice job of portraying their characters. For example, Monica who played Ella know her character well that she could put herself in the role of Ella. During the show, she always kept a good pace. Next is Nathan who played Topher have a good character body
of interest to the play making it a great play to read and also act
