Deep inside my gut I get a queasy feeling every time I read 'Lisa Vanderpump and the Yulin Dog-Meat Festival' in the same story.
The 56-year-old de facto star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and the force behind her spinoff Vanderpump Rule may be using the Yulin Dog and Cat meat festival as a tool to get her name out in the main stream media.
I am writing this only because ending the Yulin festival is something I devoted the last few years of my life in trying to end the dog and cat slaughter and in 2017 Wildlife Planet is planning some big things that hopefully will lead to the end of the festival.
Each day we try to bring new stories that expose this horror and on most days we never see anything about Vanderpump actually doing
Is killing a dog really the best choice of gaining knowledge? In Claire McCarthy’s article, Dog Lab, she explains why determining right from wrong can sometimes be challenging. She tells her readers her experience as a medical student allowing her to perform cardiovascular surgery on a dog. She explains her journey through acknowledging personal experience, creating a tone, and implying diction. The tone of the story never the less, changes drastically as you read. It goes from sadness, to discomfort, then, eventually, disappointment. Throughout the article, McCarthy has to make some the hardest choices, and most challenging decisions despite her preparation in her field. In order to gain more knowledge McCarthy has to choose between stepping
Upon first receiving this assignment I was honestly not sure what I would do it on. Then I remember a very well done commercial from 2006. If you’re not sure what commercial I am referencing it is the ASPCA commercial with all the injured animals and "arms of an angel" playing in the background; furthermore, Sarah McLachlan voices over and stars in the commercial. The commercial does a good job of appealing to animal lovers sense of emotion (Pathos) through the photos and videos of helpless and beaten animals. Sarah McLachlan also appeals to animal lovers through the fact that she has been a longtime supporter of the ASPCA (Ethos). Also, the video includes statistics that can easily be proven these statistics help to support the commercials cause (logos). Finally, the commercial itself appeared on television which is a great medium to get a message across; in addition, this commercial is valid in any year and will always appeal to a
Man’s best friend. When hearing this statement many people know that it is referring to a dog. But can it also be referring to a beer? Budweiser believes so. In their commercial, “Lost Puppy” Budweiser shows their viewers that not only can your dog be your best friend, but so can their beer. They use many forms of rhetoric to persuade their audience of this. Budweiser does a great job of using pathos to draw the attention of their audience. That is the first step, right? In order to persuade an audience of something, you must first have their attention.
I am used to living a very busy life style, so I never paid close attention to where my food was originating from. Usually when I look at my food it is more to find out its nutritional value rather than its origins. After reading Kelsey Timmerman’s “Where Am I Eating?”, it has opened my eyes to some of the horrors of the food industry. Regardless of what I have learned, changing my eating habits would be very challenging, and I do not believe it is entirely necessary. Yes, there are many negatives in the global food economy, but it is not totally corrupt as Timmerman suggests. I believe it would be very difficult to change because of the many misleading food labels, the United States has become unfamiliar with how to produce for the entirety
Ferris Bueller is a young, rebellious, high school senior who gets away with just about everything. One day, he decides to play hooky and skip school for the ninth time. He tricks his parents into thinking he is sick with his signature fake stomach cramp and clammy palms. After his parents leave for work, Bueller calls up his rigid, hypochondriac best friend Cameron to join him on his day off. Initially refusing to leave the comfort of his bed, Cameron finally is persuaded to not only join Ferris, but to also bring his Father’s precious Ferrari out on the town. The first stop on their rebellious journey is to bail out Bueller’s girlfriend, Sloane, from school. They do so by calling Ed Rooney,
(TRANSITION: The lurid tale of Aileen Wuornos starts out with a background, pitiful, and all too familiar.
On July 22, 1994, Simpson replied to the question, “How do you plead?” with “Absolutely one hundred percent, Your Honor.”
In a case that has spanned more than 20 years and drew so much media attention, there is just as much intrigue today as it then. Did he do it or did he not do it? The entire world was captivated by the case. It took over a year for a trial and a conclusion that stunned the world with the verdict (Boyes). They were many household names that came out of this trial (Pitts).

"Some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go,"-Hermann Hesse. Regrettably, in this point of view, Jenna Fox's father, Matthew Fox, was incapable of staying strong. In the novel, The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson, seventeen-year-old Jenna Fox has woken up from a coma caused by a gruesome car accident, an accident in which she was told to have caused. Later, Jenna begins to pick up and put together the puzzle pieces of her own life, including how the way she is being kept alive is illegal. Jenna's parents, Matthew and Claire Fox decided to take advantage of Matthew's expertise and replace
Marlo Mack’s podcast How To Be a Girl is a sensitive and honest exploration of the joys, fears, and struggles of raising of a transgender child. Earlier this year, Marlo and her seven-year-old daughter M (both pseudonyms) met transgender actress Laverne Cox (“Orange Is the New Black”). The story and photos of that meeting had a brief flare of online virality. In a recent episode of the podcast, Marlo (who also blogs at gendermom) talked about what happened after that meeting, as M began to understand that the world can be a difficult, even dangerous, place for transgender people like her. Below is a transcribed excerpt of that podcast.
I just got back from the 1st annual Southern Brewers Conference #SBC2016 in Nashville, TN. I’ve been to Nashville a couple of times before and when I saw that the South East was hosting a beer conference there, I knew I wanted to attend. I got to Nashville on Wednesday afternoon, threw my bags in the hotel room, and then headed out to find some local craft. Hope you’re ready to hear a lot about Breweries, the conference, and Nashville…
Conversation Analysis (CA) is the study of talk-within-interaction that attempts to describe the orderliness, structure and sequential patterns of interaction in conversation. It is a method of qualitative analysis developed by Harvey Sacks with the aid of Emmanuel Schegloff and Gail Jefferson in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Using the CA frame of mind to view stories shows us that what we may think to be simplistic relaying of information or entertaining our friends is in fact a highly organised social phenomena that is finely tuned in a way that expresses the teller’s motivation behind the talk. (Hutchby & Wooffitt, 2011). It is suggested that CA relies on three main assumptions; talk is a form of social action, action is structurally organised, talk creates and maintains inter-subjectivity (Atkinson & Heritage, 1984).
