Josie’s Story Josie’s story was painful to watch as a mother. I can only try to imagine the pain and anger her family has had to endure. It saddens and angers me personally to know a mother’s concerns were dismissed without a second thought when she knows her daughter better than anyone else. I cannot understand why the nurses and doctors would not address her concerns, no harm comes from taking a few moments to re-analyze the situation. I do not think I could partner with the same people that caused the untimely death of my child. I understand Josie’s family did so to implement a safety protocol to prevent other families from the same fate, and I admire their bravery in doing so. No one should be in a situation where their wellbeing is at risk due to a medical error. I have been aware of medical errors for some time now. While in nursing school I have heard many stories from classmates and instructors of instances where people they knew, or loved ones had been either harmed or died because of a medical error. I have had experiences with medical errors. When I was in the hospital for the birth of my first child, the nurse that came to change out my IV bag did not check the …show more content…

Although I respect and trust nurses and doctors, I always carefully observe what is being done with myself or my family members. After watching Josie’s story and being in the process of becoming a medical assistant, I feel this story has given me an initiative to ensure patients and their families are kept safe. The generation we live in is technological, there are many resources for patients and families to utilize to educate themselves when it comes to medical conditions. Some people like to self-diagnose and it makes it harder for doctors and healthcare workers to work with those patients. This is when communication and active listening becomes especially important to work through what is fact and what is misplaced
