Dr. Gerald M. Nosich, an expert in critical thinking, wrote a book titled, “Learning to Think Things Through,” for his readers to understand and enhance their analytical skills. In the book, Nosich discussed the eight elements of reasoning including two additional elements: Purpose, Question at Issue, Assumptions, Implications and Consequences, Information, Concepts, Conclusions/Interpretation, Point of View, and Alternatives and Context (two additional elements). These elements help sort through our reasoning process so that we can make reasonable decisions. As a kid, I did not fully understand nor used any critical thinking skills, which led me to make some unreasonable mistakes. Between the ages twelve and sixteen, teenagers begin to develop individualism, a social development to identify who they are independently. Hypothetically, individualism is one of the leading cause why teenagers become rebellious because most teenagers are developing patterns of thinking rather than thinking critically. Similarly, when I was in the 6th grade, I decided to walk to the Boys & Girls Club with my friends after my mother specifically told me not to. The ten minute walk I was trying to persued did not happen. As a matter of fact, my friends decided they wanted to take a short cut through the woods instead of walking along the sidewalk by the main strret in town. Through my patterns of thinking, I thought that will be a great idea and it goes along with my plan; my mother definitely will not be able to see me. Not thinking about the consequence, I accidentally tresspass someone yard, and was threated to be killed.
