Donald Trump’s published Facebook video, “Donald Trump: Make America Great Again” provides a clear depiction of his purposive message and intentions, when considering its visual aspects and the verbal communication established. With regards to semiotics, the encoding and decoding of messages, and the approach to audiences, the brief video divulges these aspects through the prevalence of minorities, his frequent use of hand gestures, and the clip’s cinematographic elements.
Minority groups in America are a predominant aspect in Trump’s transient clip. Women, people of colour and international students all make an appearance; all expressing their beliefs for Trump’s suitability as a president. These momentary appearances manifest Trump’s aim

Trump is man with specific gestures, as it leads his verbal communication towards an audience that looks forward to his great leadership. Trump shows five significant hand gestures where he portrays and explains his message to people (What Donald Trump's hand gestures say about him - BBC News). With regards to semiotics, this is the media producer’s attempt to exemplify the signs that Trump predominantly exhibits in his speeches; where the actions represent as the signifier, and the meaning stands as the signified concept. To illustrate, the “L shape and pinch” means that he’s not all over the place, etc.; it highlights that he knows what he’s doing and his plans are running smoothly. Moreover, the “Palms Out” gesture shows the audience that Trump is being cautious and telling Americans to look out; when expressing his message; utilizing this gesture tells the audience that his resolutions are hard to handle. As exemplified by BBC News, Trump tends to pinch his fingers together and point at somebody to make it seem less denunciatory. Additionally, the “Slicing” gesture shows accuracy, that people need to do something about the situation that that the country is currently facing. Moreover, Trump raises his thumb to convey that everything is okay and the people of America would overcome anything that affects them. Furthermore, “Wild Gestures” shows his ‘chaos’, meaning that he doesn’t know what he’s doing and that he doesn’t have a plan. In the Facebook video, Trump’s hand gestures are a principal aspect of his speeches. New Yorkers use hand gestures, everyone does this; therefore, it indicates that Trump could be considered as an average person, these hand gestures imply that he wants to relate to everyone rather then appear as an authority figure. However, a prominent signal Trump also establishes in the clip is him raising his straightened arm in the air, closely resembling a Hitler
Although the former president was sure to be embarrassed and nervous about his infelicitous acts, he remained dedicated to truthfully inform and apologize to the American people. Throughout the speech, Clinton uses absolutely no gestures. This represents a sign of confidence and seriousness but can also be misunderstood as nervousness, as it was by many viewers. Also, the use of his straight and focused facial expression is used to portray the importance of the issue and his earnestness about his selfish mistakes. He maintains the same calm and resolutely blank facial expression throughout majority of the speech, conveying his seriousness and focus he has for this apology. Lastly, during the entirety of the speech, Clinton gazes directly into the camera to simulate eye contact with all viewers. This technique was used to establish a sense of security, trust, and honesty while also creating bonds between the viewers by making it feel as if he was talking to each individual specifically. Clintons overall purpose of his lack of movement and blank facial expression was ultimately used to reveal his focus on the issue and express his most sincere apologies for wronging the American people. Not only did his physical expressions help contribute to the main ideas of the speech back then, but today it still remains significant because it may have reestablished the trust between the former president and the
To not drown the speech in social angst, she includes subtle, yet exquisite humor to continue keeping the crowd engaged. She strengthens and steadies her gestures to emphasize varying points to the audience. She loosens her gestures to provide humor, while tightening her stance when her statements become forceful or personal. By weaving various styles, Ambam solemnly controlled her numerous gestures to emphasize her ideologies of equality and the structured presence of the American
Leading into the topic of the current political and racial status of the United States today. This opening statement allows the article to open in a neutral standpoint before expressing negative views against Trump and his beliefs. In response, the audience feels prompted to bring more attention to the damage and impact that Trump and his racially biased views have caused the United States and people of color to endure.
He attempts to shock his reader into believing America is falling apart by comparing the diverse cultures that are active in it today. At one point in the essay, Buchanan writes “Our population is down to 67 percent European, and falling; 14.5 percent Hispanic and rising rapidly, 13 percent black and holding, and 4.5 percent Asian and rising” (599). The usage of “Our” in the sense of talking about Americans is a viewpoint that excludes anyone who is not white from being a true American. In addition, Buchanan is segregating the population by the color of their skin and creating an ethnic hierarchy. By only including white people in the definition of an American, Buchanan is showing an ethnocentric trait that Fredrickson analysed in his own essay. Fredrickson describes this changing viewpoint in American society when he examines the acceptance of all white people and the differences between colored people growing “more striking and salient than ever” (567). In general, Buchanan does not recognize the differences between white people, focusing primarily on the differences between white and non-white people. The correlation between the statistics he presents and the color of people’s skin undoubtedly prove Buchanan’s take on skin color and their ability to be American. This trait within Buchanan’s writing, coupled with the non-acceptance of colored people, has a strong presence throughout his essay, ultimately weakening his
Remnick’s introductory sentence argues, “The election of Donald Trump to the Presidency is nothing less than a tragedy for the American republic, a tragedy for the Constitution, and a triumph for the forces, at home and abroad, of nativism, authoritarianism, misogyny, and racism.” In saying this, Remnick addresses that there are compulsory forces, here in America, that abide by these ideals. His argument folds out that because the people and the electorate have elected Trump as president, that the nation will inevitably decline and suffer politically, economically, and socially. Donald Trump becoming president was only made possible because in the same way that Remnick’s voice mediated for the populace of distraught women, Muslims, Hispanics, Jews, and, African-Americans, Trump mediates for white voters with correlating ideals. Trump is the President of the United States because his supporters and voters see in him they 're culminating America; which Remnick points out will inevitably result in
Carmichael views America as a system that refuses to acknowledge the issue of race in an honest fashion. Because the holders of the country’s power, Whites, have no sense of urgency in the matter, it is comfortable taking its time in addressing such “inconvenient” problems. When the current power structure leaves those at the top of it in a particularly comfortable state, the desire to make changes that would only allow for others to have equal chance to take such a seat is unlikely.
In this year 's presidential election there have been controversy given by one of the candidates, Mr. D. Trump describing my ethnic background as “me” being a rapist, drug dealer, and a person whose convicting criminal crimes. No ethnic group should be categories in these slots because it isn 't true no ethnic race is perfect we shouldn 't blame a whole community for something a small portion is responsible for. In the midst of one of the most controversial presidential elections in history, both political parties are struggling to prove that their candidate is the best choice. Clinton and Trump’s disapproval ratings are very low, but one has to ask, is there really a lesser evil to choose from? While Clinton has had her own fair share of past discrepancies, Trump’s track record proves much more troublesome. Donald Trump has proven to be an untrustworthy presidential candidate because of his misogynistic actions, his racial bias, and his corrupt business history.
Obama emotionally influences the nation to move forward from the issues of race that is hindering America. Without dwelling on his family tree, Obama reminds us that his father was black and his mother white, that he came from Kenya, but she came from Kansas: “I am married to a black American who carries within her the blood of slave and slave owners — an inheritance we pass on to our two precious daughters. I have brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, uncles, and cousins, of every race and every hue, scattered across three continents, and for as long as I live, I will never forget that in no other country on Earth is my story even possible.
America may have just been conned by one of the greatest con men around. Mr.Donald Trump is a business man with no political skills or experience yet he campaigned and won the election for POTUS. He now sits in the Oval Office on the very same desk that many of the tests once sat in. However, the differences between them and Trump are not so subtle. Trump stormed his way through the RNC and gutted the DNC. He was in no way discreet or quiet about his feelings or “concerns”. No one took him serious or saw him as a threat. He was just the celebrity host trying to pull off another gig, or so we thought.
From the text, Nonverbal Communication in Human Interaction, Knapp and Hall define gestures as “any movements made by the body or some part of it”. Both readings have great information about gestures along with other factors that play a role when communicating nonverbally. Gesture, Race and Culture, was a pretty straight forward read. It did have a lot of interesting and valuable information that I could relate to situations that I interact with in my life and am more aware of certain gestures people make.
I'm honestly not feelings any kind of way because I believe that Donald Trump could be a good president it's just his ideas that he have in mind are reckless. The people around us are being frightened because the things he say although they might not happen because he's not the one who makes the rules/ laws it's the congress who does people still feel threatened. I believe that people should love who they want to love same sex or not. They shouldn't have to worry about being separated from their mate.
His name is emblazoned all over the city. On luxury condominiums, high-rise residential buildings, office block and hotels, and at some of the New York's most prestigious addresses, Fifth Avenue, Wall Street, Park Avenue, the United Nations Plaza and even the ice rink in Central Park. TRUMP, often spelt out in gold capital letters in a font called Stymie Bold, is ubiquitous. But as well as being the place where he built his corporate and personal brand, the politics of Donald Trump can also be traced back to New York.
The mode of communication is at the forefront of essential human transactions in everyday life. Communicating is arguably the most essential form of social interaction as it is how deals are prepared and agreed upon, friendships are made and emotions are expressed. However, communication is not all in the words that come out of our mouths, as there are several different facets of communication which may be interconnected or used separately. For example, as stated by Herbert H. Clark in “Depicting as a method of communication” p.324 “iconic and facial gestures depict different ways of communication” this proves that our expressions and body movements also play a part in the message we as humans broadcast each day.
