Come Before Winter Paul, the great apostle of Christ, now well into years, is a prisoner at Rome. He is there because of his faith in Jesus; he is a Christian and the Caesar has sentenced him to die. As winter approached, Paul wrote a letter to Timothy (II Timothy) and in that letter, Paul reminisced about those days, when he had taken the young man Timothy as his own beloved son. When Paul was stoned and left for dead at Lystra, it may well have been Timothy, who wiped the blood stains from the apostle’s face, bound his wounds and cared for him until he was able to continue his journey. Paul greeted Timothy with the salutation: “To Timothy, a beloved son.” And, he longed for the joy of seeing him. Even though, Paul asked Timothy to …show more content…
As soon as he reaches Rome, Timothy goes directly to the prison and asked to see Paul, but he is turned away. Then he goes to the houses of some of the Christians there in Rome. We imagine that when he finally located a gathering of the saints at the house of Hermas, he said: “Where is Paul,” and someone said, “You must be Timothy. Paul loved you and longed for you every day. And, his last message was for you. He said, “Give my love to Timothy, my beloved son when he comes.” Timothy is completely overcome with emotion and his heart hurts more than it has ever hurt in his entire life when they tell him that Paul is gone; beheaded by the Caesar last January. He paces the floor and asked himself over and over: “Why didn’t I leave Asia in time to see Paul before he died?” Or, perhaps he said: “I would give a thousand worlds if only I had ‘Come before winter.’” Now, whether Timothy reached Paul before the execution is not known; however, there are a lot of things that must be done now or they will never be done. Paul’s plea for Timothy to “Come before winter” is a reminder to all of us that it’s fall now; yet, winter will come and spring flowers will cover the graves of lost opportunities and they may cover the graves of some of our loved ones. Autumn is a beautiful time of the year, but it soon passes and so do lost …show more content…
They are in our care for such a short time; therefore, don’t neglect them during their formative years when they need their parents most. When Absalom was a little boy, King David was busy with the affairs of the state and he failed his son. Then, when Absalom became a man, David realized that rearing a child in the right way has no “next time,” but it must be done in the season of opportunity. Every stone dropped into that pit upon Absalom’s mangled body was a stone dropped upon David’s heart. We are in the autumn of opportunity when it comes to winning back the careless and negligent church member; those who are out of communion with Christ and His church. It’s easy to drift and if we don’t act quickly, it may be too late to reclaim them. The Holy Spirit says, “It would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandments delivered to them.” (II Peter 2:
... While the corpse represents each of these concepts, in the end it is Paul’s faith – his own luck – that saves his life once again. What, upon first glance, appears to be a hectic and confused account of a destructive shelling becomes a wonderfully connected verse of one soldier’s struggle to preserve himself against all odds. What more can be said about Paul?
... Paul wanted to get out of the war. Maybe Paul died on the right day; he loves quiet, and he dies on possibly the quietest day of the whole war. Maybe he just wanted to end his misery. In any case, Paul cannot accept the philosophy of war and thus gives himself up for death.

...my own hometown, like Paul, I must constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid” to show how they both were compelled to carry out a message one being the gospel of Jesus Christ and the latter being human equality (p.61). By comparing himself to historical figures he makes numbers of ethical appeals and he builds up the author’s character. His use of great leaders can have a great influence in the reader and have an effect on the emotions of the reader.
Paul's experiences in combat shatter his former misconceptions of war; consequently, he gains the ability to reflect on events with his own accord. His naive ideas are severely challenged when he first witnesses the ugly truth of war. "The first bombardment showed us our mistake, and under it the world as they had taught it to us broke in pieces"(13). Paul's first engagement in combat reveals that everything he was taught as a young recruit are lies; consequently, he can now form his own conclusions. Through the ongoing course of the war, Paul comes to grips with the reality of the situation. "They are strong and our desire is strong-but they are unattainable, and we know it"(121). Paul realizes that the soldiers former lives are all but distant memories. His maturing personality gives him the insight to see past the facade of war and expose it for what it truly is.
Paul’s books symbolize the shadow of war that has been casted upon him through the horrid violence. Paul’s

In this passage, Paul first addresses the fact that he did not want to return to the church at Corinth and bring pain upon them again. Paul had a previously painful situation with this church. We are not told the specifics of the current situation which caused Paul to write to Corinth, but we know that Paul was very sensitive in dealing with the matter. He did not desire to harm them or bring sorrow upon them.
Joseph is an awful, unjust father to David due to his physical and verbal abuse towards David. David feels uncomfortable when in his father’s presence, whereas he welcomes Uncle Axel’s company. Contrary to Joseph, Axel shows his care for David through actions and words. David and his uncle are a lot closer to each other compared to David and his father, whose admonishments are his only words spoken to David. A son should love his father, rather than fearing him. Every child should have the right to have a healthy relationship with their parents.
Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians was both his way of showing gratitude and to give further instruction to his early Christian followers on how to maintain their faith in Jesus Christ, they now all possessed. The Thessalonians had not always been followers of Christ they were previously Gentiles who then converted to Christianity. Paul gave thanks and further instruction to the Thessalonians so that they could stay prepared for the Advent. I believe that Paul was aware that the followers of Christ what be subjected to temptation and suffering for spreading the Gospel. The Gentiles and Satan could have a great influence on followers of Christ if they are not prepared. Paul knows the struggle of being converted and in result prepared the Thessalonians through ministry and prayer.
