What happened on the other dark side of the fence in Auschwitz? That 's something that no one wanted to know. More than 6 million jews died in the Holocaust. Nazi soldiers took certain groups of people to concentration camps, where they were put through hard labor and given little food. Many people died of starvation and disease. Hitler was responsible of all of this, he used Jewish and other groups of people as a scapegoat. He then forced other people from Germany or other countries to be part of the army called the Nazis. The Nazis laughed at the people in the camps while they were beaten to death. Auschwitz is the best know camp, more than 1,100,000 people were killed at this camp (Nizkor.org). The main character in The Boy in The Striped Pajamas, Bruno a German was only 9 years old when his family and he moved In The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, it was good that Bruno was naive about the Holocaust throughout the novel because he develops a friendship with Shmuel and would’ve been emotionally shocked about what was Bruno was able to help Shmuel by giving him some food. The food that Bruno gave him helped him, without the pieces of bread that he gave him he probably would 've died of starvation. Bruno was also someone that Shmuel was able to talk to “‘You’re my best friend, Shmuel. .My best friend for life’” (Boyne 213). During that time Shmuel probably couldn’t talk to anyone. Talking to Bruno about things that normal nine-year-olds would take about probably helped Shmuel feel a bit normal for thirty minutes a day. Bruno and Shmuel had different versions of what they were going through but they both listened to each other. They also wanted to get away from what was happening and learn more about each other. Without this friendship, Bruno would 've been very lonely and be able to talk to someone his
