A wrinkle in time is a novel by Madeleine L’Engle. It is a very fun and thrilling novel set in the entire universe. The story happens in only one autumn day. This is because of time manipulation. You know this because in the novel the main character gets worried that her mom and her brothers will try to find them, There are a lot of fun and exciting characters in this novel. Anywhere from tentacles instead of limbs to a glowing/flying horse man this book has it all. Although the main character is not so extravagant. Her name is Meg she about thirteen and her full name is Meg Murry. She has brown hair and wears really thick glasses just like her father's. In the beginning of this novel she is very self conscious. ‘“School. School was all wrong. pg 4. This states that Meg was not a great student in school. Her downfall in school happened when her father left. This happens before …show more content…
This is the action that drives her to do most of the things she does in this novel which is why she is the protagonist of this story. Meg has a nice family at home, it consists of her, her mom, the twins sandy and Dennys, and the dog Fartinbras, and the next main character Charles Wallace Murry. Charles Wallace is the youngest of the Murry’s. He is roughly 5 years old. Most people think he is very stupid because he didn't start talking until he was 4 although he is really a genius. He knows it as well as some points in the novel he can get a little arrogant. Charles Wallace also has a strange ability to read some minds. “‘How did Charles Wallace always know about her?”’ pg 8. This quote states Meg wondering about Charles Wallace before she realizes the truth about his ability. This ability allows Charles to help Meg mentally
The book had a few characters that I liked, but a lot of characters that I disliked. For example Yasmine was a character that I disliked. I didn’t like her because she brought pain to Paige’s life. Yasmine and Paige were best friends for months in Sixth grade. They were constantly doing fun activities together, like having sleepovers or planning each other’s birthday parties, but all that was ruined by a mistake Yasmine made. Paige and Yasmine were at a school dance, when

This book is about a girl name Ellen Foster who is ten years old. Her mother committed suicide by over dosing on her medication. When Ellen tried to go look for help for her mother her father stopped her. He told them that if she looked for helped he would kill them both. After her mother died she was left under her fathers custody. Her father was a drunk. He would physically and mentally abuse her. Ellen was forced to pay bills, go grocery shopping, cook for herself, and do everything else for herself. Ellen couldn't take it any more so she ran away her friends house. Starletta and her parents lived in a small cabin with one small bathroom. One day at school a teacher found a bruise on Ellen's arm. She sends Ellen to live with Julia the school's art teacher. Julia had a husband named Roy. They were both hippies. Julia and Roy cared a lot about Ellen. After Ellen turned 11 years old she was forced to go live with her grandmother. Ellen didn't want to leave Julia and Roy but her grandmother had won custody. Her grandmother was a cruel old lady. Ellen spends the summer with her grandmother. Living with her makes her very unhappy. Since her grandmother owns farmland she forces Ellen to work on the field with her black servants. Ellen meets a black woman named Mavis. Mavis and her become good friends. Mavis would talk about how she knew Ellen's mother and how much Ellen resembled her mother. Her grandmother didn't think the same. She thought that Ellen resembled her father. She also hated that man. Her grandmother would often compare her with her father. Her grandmother would torture her because she wanted revenge from her father. Her grandmother also blames her for the death of her mother. While Ellen was staying with her grandmother her father died. When her father died she didn't feel sad because she had always fantasized about killing her father. Ellen just felt a distant sadness. Ellen cried just a little bit. Her grandmother was furious because Ellen showed some emotions. She told her to never cry again. After that Ellen becomes scarred for a long time. One day her uncle Rudolph bought the flag that had been on Ellen's father's casket. Her grandmother turns him away. Later that day she burned the flag.
To begin, she tells the reader what time of day and what time of year the story
In the first section of the book it starts off with a little girl named Tasha. Tasha is in the Fifth grade, and doesn’t really have many friends. It describes her dilemma with trying to fit in with all the other girls, and being “popular”, and trying to deal with a “Kid Snatcher”. The summer before school started she practiced at all the games the kid’s play, so she could be good, and be able to get them to like her. The girls at school are not very nice to her at all. Her struggle with being popular meets her up with Jashante, a held back Fifth ...
A Wrinkle In Time is an example of great American literature. It is a plot-based novel with something always happening while an obstacle is standing in the way. Most of the conflict occurring in this book is person versus self and person versus supernatural. A certain aspect that is very prevalent in this book is love. This love takes the characters on the trip of a lifetime, for the sole purpose of finding her father. This love in the background is not known by the reader until the last few pages, and ends up encompassing and explaining the whole novel.
Our class has been reading a book called “Brown Girl Dreaming” for the past two weeks. The author, Jacqueline Woodson talks about her life growing up. For example she talks about how her mom and dad divorced when she was young. She talks about how she moves to Greenville and how her grandpa is like a dad figure, and how her mother came back with a pale skinned baby after she went to New York. Character traits make up a person, and while reading the book, you can see what Jacqueline is like during her childhood. Jacqueline has many character traits, such as being jealous of her older sister, being naive, and she is also respectful.
At the age of ten, most children are dependent on their parents for everything in their lives, needing a great deal of attention and care. However, Ellen, the main character and protagonist of the novel Ellen Foster, exemplifies a substantial amount of independence and mature, rational thought as a ten-year-old girl. The recent death of her mother sends her on a quest for the ideal family, or anywhere her father, who had shown apathy to both she and her fragile mother, was not. Kaye Gibbons’ use of simple diction, unmarked dialogue, and a unique story structure in her first novel, Ellen Foster, allows the reader to explore the emotions and thoughts of this heroic, ten-year-old girl modeled after Gibbons’ own experiences as a young girl. Kaye Gibbons’ experiences as a child are the foundations for this.
8.Recommendation: I wouldn’t recommend this book for anyone to read because it’s quite boring and very confusing in some parts of the story. Well it’s confusing to me and it’s like the most weirdest book I have ever read. Someone who likes to read novels or read in general would like this book because or if they like this genre they would like this
Trisha McFarland, a nine year old in the year of 1998 from Maine, is the main character of the novel. She is a child of a troubled family. Trisha's parents recently got a divorce, and her brother seems to always argue with their mother as sort of a rebellious state of punishment for leaving their father. This always left the mother and the brother constantly arguing with Trisha feeling left out and depressed. This is why during their hiking trip on the Appalachian Trail in Maine, her mother and brother failed to notice that Trisha hadn't continue hiking with them after she stopped to pee and really got lost. She stayed semi-sane by hallucinating her idol, Tom Gordon a pitcher for the Boston Red Socks, was with her to help her though her situations.
Furthermore, Meg is my character of choise because she is hated in her town because of her father left but she still holds the ground and says her father is still going to come back. She is not one of the liked people in her town infact even the princaple Mr. Jenkins still brings up the fact that
In this essay, I will tell you about why I believe Madeleine L'Engle wrote A Wrinkle in Time. The theory I have about why she wrote A.W.I.T (A Wrinkle In Time) is to inform the reader about the importance of love in any society. She does this with a story that is entertaining, interesting, and exciting. I believe this because A.W.I.T is a story about kids who conquer great problems by wrinkling, or skipping, through time.
A Wrinkle in Time is a fun and entertaining book to read. There are many themes shown in the book I like the theme love because it shows that the characters are loving to each other and they also care for each other. Meg, (one of the main characters in the book.) at the beginning learns to show love in the situations. Meg kept on using her father as an excuse at school. Meg shows love by loving her brother because it says in the book”And on the way home from school, walking up the road with her arms full of books, on of the boys had said something about her ( dumb baby brother). At this time she’d thrown her books on the side of the road and tackled him with every ounce of strength she had, and arrived home with her blouse torn and a big bruise under one eye.” (L’engle, pg 8)This shows love by Meg caring for her brother so much she would tackle them and in the end she would get a marking left on her.
I read a story, after I finished reading it my mind was still reeling over what I had just read. Stories like this are quite impressive magnificent; they draw the reader into the story and leave them with a strong impact. How we interpret a text is in itself impressive, as every person is different, every interpretation is too. As I read “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin, I could not help but notice that Kate Chopin uses the window to symbolize the future that Mrs. Mallard has been pinning for all her life. Chopin also uses Mrs. Mallard’s heart condition as a symbol of Mrs. Mallard’s marriage. The short story is consequentially the story of an oppressed woman who had to confine herself to the social norms of marriage. Through Formalism Criticism, we will explore the various symbols that Chopin uses to describe how Mrs. Mallard yearns for freedom, and through the Feminist Criticism, we will explore how the institution of marriage oppresses our heroin.
