People all over the world have conflicts. Whether they are small or big, no matter who you are, you will always experience the trauma of having enemies. Although, some peoples problems are blown so out of proportion, that it gets to a point where they just need to stop and get over it. Sometimes the conflict goes on for so long, that no one truly knows the real reason they are enemies in the first place. It has always just been that way. Humans need to realize it is ok to forgive and forget. In The Interlopers, the two men at least tried to make amends. Even if it wasn’t legitimate, it still shows a lot that they tried as they had been enemies for so long. In the short story of The Interlopers, the two men did not deserve the fate that happened to them as they made an effort to become friends, everyone should get a second chance, and no one deserves to die that way. To start, the two men from The Interlopers did not deserve their fate as they made a great effort to try and make amends and become friends. Even though it may be questioned if the apology was legitimate, their was sti...
The first few days were the men getting ready to leave the miserable situation they were in the past, but this was not without complications. The men first had to find e...
In these five paragraphs I will be writing about the book “Hotel on the Corner of Sweet and Bitter” written by Jamie Ford and five quotation that important and made up the theme for me. This book gives a feel a lot of different emotions. The first quote was “‘You are Chinese aren’t you,Henry? That’s fine. Be who you are, she said, turning away, a look of disappointment in her eyes. “But I’m an American’’(p. 60). This quote is important because it shows how Keiko believes even if her parents are Japanese she feels more American then Japanese since she barely spoke Japanese.
During World War II and the Holocaust, there was not only mistrust for the government but there was also plenty of mistrust for prior friends and neighbors. In the graphic novel, “Maus (Volume I and II) Vladek Spiegelman makes it very clear to his son, Artie, that one cannot count on their friends. He makes the point that in time of hardship, friends will abandon you quite quickly. Vladek says, “Friends? Your friends…if you lock them together in a room with no food for a week…then you could see what it is, friends! (Maus, VI. 5-6). Throughout the novel, we see examples of this gloomy point proven repeatedly.
In short, "Enemies" is about two men, Lee Strunk and Dave Jensen, who are battling not only in a war but with each other. They were viciously fighting about a missing jackknife. A question that the reader might ask themselves is, why were they fighting over a jackknife? Did it have some special sentimental meaning? These questions cannot be answered; they can only be left to wonder.
The unavoidable question is then, what has generated this state of affairs between these two human groups. Throughout the text one can sense that both parts have reached an impasse where everybody feels terribly bad towards the other group and where they all want to find the way either to inflict pain to the opponent or to protect themselves...
War never changes. It starts with a drop of blood and ends with a sea, but it isn’t the spilling of blood that stops the chaos. Peace is brought by the magnanimous who look past each other’s faults, not the cold-hearted and unsympathetic. The short stories “Lather and Nothing Else” and “Gregory” both explore the theme that it is better for opposing sides to show trust and empathy with each other rather than displaying ruthlessness and needless violence because mutual understanding PREVENTS FURTHER CONFLICT. Captain Torres trusts the barber not to slit his throat which then leads to them being empathic to one another and developing a relationship, similar to when Gregory trusts the guerrillas with his life which
The knowledge and understanding of blood feuds helps in the develop understanding of the current conflicts in the Middle East. The Middle East conflict started after World War II when the United Nations handed the Jewish people land once owned by the Palestinians. A conflict has occurred with the Palestinians who live together with Israelis that has led to terrorism and tyranny. Israelis believe they must control the Palestinians to stop their terrorism; while the Palestinians use terrorism to seek independence from Israelis. Blood Feuds in Thull are similar to the situation in the Middle East and are violently depicted in Lincoln Keiser's "Friend by Day Enemy By Night."
Through all of this happening, they all remain strong, and put up a good fight. At times the men might have put a sort of fear into these women heart’s but sometimes came back sharp-tongued. They stand out all for both good and bad purposes and some things could have been better or completely avoided. In all this confusion, nothing was completely resolved but all these women greatly affected someone’s life.
In the wall that parted the two apartments there was a crack, caused by the buildings old structure. No one had observed it before, but the lovers discovered it. What love can discover. As they stood, Pyramus on one side, Thisbe on the other, they would whisper to each other innocent non-sense. "Damn this freaking wall," they said, "Why do you keep us apart?” Such words they uttered on different sides of the wall; and when the night came and they must say goodnight, they would tell the other of how they are kissing the wall and imagining it was other. Next morning, when the sun had resin above the tallest skyscraper, and the city filled with busy noise and smog, they unveiled their plan to see each other. They had agreed to sneak out at night, they would wait till the routine police car had passed their block, and then each would run and meet at the old winery and wait till the other arrived. All was agreed on, and they waited impatiently for the sun to go down beneath the buildings and night to rise up from them. Then cautiously Thisbe opened her back window- unsuspected by her parents, put a white scarf around her, waited for the police car to pass and escaped. As she sat alone in the dim light under one of the old street lights, she saw a drunk old man approaching her. With a thirst in his eyes Thisbe fled the sight, and sought refuge in the back alleys of the streets. As she fled she dropped her scarf. The drunken old man was hurt and was going to ask Thisbe for some help but just found a scarf on the ground and wiped his wound with it. Pyramus, late only because he had stopped at a local gas station to get some snacks for his dear love, finally arrived at the old winery.
Competition between good friends is not the only instance in which negative feelings can occur. Surprisingly, the exact same feelings of resentment and hostility can happen between two perfect strangers. With no valid reason, children and adults alike can work up an enormous grudge against a person that they have never spoken to, or possibly never even seen. Take for instance a boy on a high school football team. Off the field he is a respectable student who is always considerate of others. Yet the second he steps on that field he transforms into a monster who is out to “get” the other team, to “show them who’s boss.” He has never met these people before and has no reason to feel such anger towards them other than the fact that they are standing in the way of his team winning the game.
In the short story, “The Interlopers”, one of the reasons that they men did not deserve their fate was because the feud between their families began long before they had any control of it. The whole o...
The men of the story were ordinary citizens put into an extraordinary situation and came out on top. These men often bonded together through some of the harder times, for example in the text there was a time where one soldier was able to be sent home to the states but refused it because he wanted to stay with his friend. “It’s either I stay here or he comes too,” those were the feelings of many people in the war that shared a special attachment with another man.
Jane is much more lenient with herself than she is with Mrs. Reed and her cousins. This due to the way in which they treat her compared to the way they are treated as well as the way other people treat her in comparison to how they treat her cousins and Mrs. Reed. At Gateshead, she is treated terribly by everyone around her, while she simply struggles to just stay under the radar. The reason for her bad treatment is a combination of two reasons. The first is that the family, being raised by Mrs. Reed their whole lives, have grown to be selfish, evil people who have little remorse for anyone but themselves. The second reason is that she is only a part of the family through marriage, and because her parents are dead and cannot stick up for her,
Throughout the short story, “The Interlopers,” author Saki, creates a conflict between the two main characters, Ulrich Von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym, over who should get a piece land. If Ulrich and Georg would have fixed their friendship in the beginning they would not have had to worry about killing each other or where the other one was at all times on the property. Perhaps if the two friends would have fixed their problems it could have created more problems after the fact if they didn’t agree on different things. Finally if they would have made up earlier they could have been great friends and shared the land. In an attempt to fix their friendship they should have talked it out and resolved their problems sooner.
On the whole, the case here that people were wronged was mostly betrayal: betrayal to others not only because of unnecessary hatred like Ernesto’s but because of different approaches in life. There was a variety from a typical hedonistic life like Lena’s to a morally correct one like Ray X’s. The choices being all different lead to clashes. As Milan Kundera once said: “When the dreams conflict, clashes occur…” The same happened to our movie. Different dreams of the characters created different conditions for the characters to achieve them. These conditions, in order to be met, had some sacrifices. These sacrifices though, were not always morally correct towards others creating an instability that others couldn’t tolerate. This intolerance was enough for creating wronged situations towards others and a whole cycle of clashes.
