Generation Z- Pe Internal I am a 16 year old girl, I have a short attention span, I like things fast pace and outgoing, and things crazy and extreme. I am influenced by technology and media everyday in almost everything and anything I do. I don’t care about the world’s delimas, crisis and epidemics. I only care about what’s happening in my world. I am in Generation Z. But what is generation “Z”? Generation Z is the “youth” of the current generation. They are the generation of people born between the years 1995 until now. It is our main source of communtion; through emailing, facebook ,instagram etc.. you can keep in contact with family and friends that are all over the world. We are on and around the media everyday and immensely influence by it in almost anything we do. We are constantly being bombarded with television advertisements, facebook ads, magazines, youtube and many more, all providing us with inaccurate information. It is fulling our minds with images of perfect models, air brush to look gorgeous for a particular sport and act out what the perfect person should look like to play. For example, lets take beach volleyball. What do you think of when the words”beach volleyball” are said? Woman in skimpy bikinis, beautifully tanned with a slim physique. This sends a very dominant command to us that to be able to play or participate this particular game at a high level you must look like these ladies. It will not encourage people to try this sport if they know they don’t look like the models. As a result of this people of generation Z are being influenced too much and in some cases trying to look to much like them and going on insane diets just to look like somebody that isn’t even real in the first place. Consequently there are becoming to many serious health issues including anerxia and belima.On the other hand, the media portraying inprecise imagery could also lead to depression. “The Dumbest Generation” is a title no group of people want to behold. Nonetheless, people under age thirty have been given this belittling title. To those who go off questions about obsolete general knowledge rather than the ability to take in and evaluate knowledge, this title may seem quite fitting. However, Millennials aren’t quite as dull as they’ve been perceived to be. The ability of Millennials to absorb information, rather than know general facts, and their use of contemporary technology as reading and writing resources has proven that they are quite an innovative and bright generation.
Since both authors can relate to both age groups, they have written this article to describe the reasons behind Gen Y’s characteristics and allow older generations a chance to understand their younger counterparts. The article is written not towards Gen Y but instead is written for their critics. When it comes to the topic of technological advances, most of us agree that they are beneficial to humans. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of whether or not Generation Z is at risk. Whereas, some are convinced that we have become cyborgs and are enslaved to devices that lie in our pockets. Others however, maintain that it can be both beneficial and detrimental. In “We Are All Cyborgs Now,” Amber Case argues that, although there are challenges with online socialization, being able to connect online helps to humanize us in new ways. In “Generation Z: online and at risk” Nicholas Kardaras disagrees, asserting that people with addictive personalities, particularly young people, are risking their mental health by favoring their online connections over their ordinary ones.
The author utilizes various articles that target Generation Z in a negative manner, such as “Is Google Making Us Stupid?”, “The dumbest Generation: How The Digital Age Stupefies Young American and Jeopardizes Our Future” and “Alone Together”, revealing that this current generation is frowned upon by researchers as well as older generations, labeling them as “internet hungry screenagers with nothing but addiction to social media”. In the article “It’s Not About You” by David Brooks, Brooks takes a different perspective on this current generation. Many of the past generation huff at the thought of the new age group. Brooks has an incredible, somewhat biased opinion relating to the new generation, which is not unusual since he is from the current generation. Brooks discusses and explores the idea that the current generation is expected to grow up, get educated, get married and then have children. Brooks speculates that the new generation will be less family-orientated and maybe more adventurous and more about just living life and getting to experience things. Overall, Brooks wrote something different from most stories regarding generations.
There are many aspects of my generation that reflect, define, and influence my generation. Its a difficult task to understand Generation X, my generation. We are like no generation before us, and no preceding generation will be like ours. We are empowered by the Internet, we have more knowledge about technology than our parents, and we are exposed to so much information. One thing remains unchanged, as with past generation; the relationship between us and our parents. Jamake Highwater once said, "the greatest distance between people is not space, but culture.(301)" This is true, my generation has their own culture, one which is of course different than that of our parents. We are still considered rebellious. We listen to music that is different than what our parents listen to, we dress in a way that upsets them, and act in ways that they might not. Our parents don't dress like us. They don't see how we can be happy doing what we do. They don't understand us. We are opinionated, yet susceptible. In our adolescence we are prone to wrongful doing, wrongful thinking, and we can be difficult and misunderstood. Our weakness is how easily we can let peer pressure or the media or our surroundings influence us. Many aspects of my generation's culture reflect, define, and influence my generation.
These generations of young people are the future, not only of the United States of America but also of the world. Young people will bring change and will hopefully make the world a better place. However, they cannot make the future a brighter place if they are disheartened at a young age from trying to achieve the impossible. It is society’s responsibilities to make the future better and for humanity to move forward and this cannot happen if all the millennials and those belonging to Generation Z are pessimistic because they were not able to achieve their own dream due to the circumstances in America. In his May 2013 editorial for Time Magazine, “Millennials: The Me Me Me Generation,” Joel Stein explains his viewpoint on millennials, defined as people born 1980 through 2000. Using an occasionally humorous tone, Stein summarizes the typical bleak view that older people have for the younger generation, before offering what he believes is closer to the truth. In the end, he decides that while millennials are not without their flaws and vices, a lot of the fears that older people are mostly due to the advanced technology that we are now dealing with. By the end of the article, it is my opinion that Stein makes a very fair summarization and is correct in his idea that to write off the entire generation is unfair towards younger people.
Generation Z is determined to change the future and is at an advantage over all previous generations to do so. This group is those born between the years 1995 and 2012, whom are currently ages 4 to 21. Statistics show Gen Z is extremely mature for their age with the lowest levels of drug use, alcohol consumption, smoking, and teenage pregnancy in decades, as stated by JWTIntelligence. This demonstrates that they are future orientated. Generation Z is unified, diverse, realistic, and technologically advanced, making them the generation with the power to impact the world.
There are many generations in society such as Traditionalist, Baby Boomer, Generation X, Y, and Z. Generation Z is the youngest generation in the list. However, in any work place, Generation Y, which is known as an Echo Boomers or Millenniums, is the youngest. No one knows how it emerged, but it began in 1998 and ended in 2006. The people in this era were born between 1977 and 1994, which is my generation. In the United States, there are seventy one million Generation Y-ers, which takes up the largest part of population. Unlike other generations, Generation Y has very outstanding abilities and environments to success. Those abilities and characteristics are efficient in business and companies. Also, Generation Y’s remarkable characteristics affect their social lives a lot. The Generation Y is very family centric, and able to catch up the trends. Their general cultures are pop-music, iPods, social websites, like Facebook and Twitter, and anything that relates to technology. In principle, Generation Y-ers are optimistic, social, and have high self-esteem. Those characteristics bring many pros and cons to hire them. Pros are general mostly, but cons are not true mostly because of misconceptions.
Within today’s society, we are surrounded by Generation Z who are a group of people at a particular stage of life. The factors in which influence Generation Z’s participation on different sports vary over a wide range. These include: media, friends, popular view, advertising, how accessible, the geographic location, socio-economic, historical and political influences. Generation Z were born with laptops, cell phones, gaming devices, iPods and the internet. They do not know life without technology. They are not bothered about privacy and are willing to share intimate details about themselves with complete strangers. This is seen daily through facebook and twitter and so on. As a result, members of Generation Z are very collaborative and creative. When they are at the age of employment, they will have an influence on the workplace dramatically in terms of style and expectations. Nevertheless, personally the societal influences that affect me for majority of the time are my peers, the accessibility and socio-economic.
