An Analysis of the Film Trailer for Disney’s Incredible’s

Film trailers are important because they whet the audience’s appetite

and encourage people to watch the film by giving them an insight into

it. In this essay I will analyse the film trailer for Disney’s ‘The

Incredibles’ and comment upon how it appeals to the target audience.

Teaser trailers are effective because they whet the audience’s

appetite and introduce us to some of the characters; they also give us

an idea of the genre and keep the audience in suspense. The

Incredibles immediately brands itself as a Disney Pixar animation;

this gives the audience an idea of the quality of this film. This is

largely because Disney have been producing films and animations for

over a hundred years, so people know what to expect as they have a

well established reputation.

The music used in this trailer is effective because it is repetitive

and sticks in the audience’s mind, it is also played at a fast pace.

By using fast pace music the audience immediately think this film is

going to be full of action and adventure. The use of dramatic music

as the camera pans across the montage of trophies and posters of Mr

Incredibles past is effective because it suggests that Mr Incredible

is a strong and powerful character. As the music builds up it comes

to a crescendo and the camera suddenly drops onto the incredifone. We

then see a close up shot of Mr Incredibles head, and then we hear a

male voice over on the phone asking for help. This subverts the

traditional stereo type of a super hero. The use of camera shots in

this section of the trailer conceals Mr Incredibles identity. By

using these camera angles the director has created a conventional

super hero look.

As Mr Incredible is getting his suit on the music changes tempo and

builds up to the point where the audience actually see Mr Incredible.
