Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is a “musical tragicomedy” (Wikipedia) directed by Joss Whedon in 2008 during the Writers Guild of America strike. It was originally released as a web series with three 14 minute episodes. The film centers on Dr. Horrible, a super villain with “a PhD in horribleness” (Whedon) who desires to get into the exclusive Evil League of Evil commanded by Bad Horse and alleviate the “misery of the human condition” (Wikipedia). At the same time he is striving to win the affections of Penny, a girl who is the embodiment of good, as his alter ego Billy as they meet at the Laundromat each week. Rounding out the trio is Captain Hammer; a brawny, self-centered superhero who, to Dr. Horrible’s chagrin, is well-loved in the city of Los Angeles. The three main characters create an incongruous love triangle with the ne’er do wrong Penny at the center. This film is chaotic and ironic as it challenges the common roles taken by superhero and super villain in most classic and modern movies. At the same time, it has an undercurrent of unrequited love reminiscent of Charlie Chaplin films. The conflicting genres that Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog encompasses reflect Dr. Horrible’s own character duality.
Dr. Horrible is first and foremost anarchic. It was written specifically to “circumvent the issues that were being protested during the [Writers Guild of America] strike” (Wikipedia). Due to the nature of the film being produced as an independent, low budget web series, Joss Whedon managed to avoid the issues being addressed during the strike. No major studios were involved in the production of the film, so Whedon and the other writers did not need to worry about the amount of compensation they would receive if they had released the film with a major studio. Dr. Horrible is also anarchic in the sense that it attacks the standard understandings of authority.
There was a vocal recital on October 19th, 2017 at 7:30PM, held at the performance hall in Mountain view college. Alex Longnecker, a tenor vocalist and Imre Patkai, (pianist) played a series of homophonic textured songs, some being sung in German and others in English. The Three selected songs I will be writing about are, The Lincolnshire Poacher, The Plough Boy, and Im Wunderschonen Monat Mai. This performance played a total of 24 Pieces, composed by 4 composers, being Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Ernest Chausson, Benjamin Britten, and Robert Schumann.
Certainly, being born into a privileged family have their advantages. Unfortunately, for those who are born into poverty may struggle for their success, but it is not impossible. The podcast “Three Miles” is a great example of that. Comparatively, on the surface Melanie and Raquel are two individuals coming from the same unfortunate circumstances. Although, both girls were introduced to the same pen pal program their outcomes would travel different courses. Initially, the purpose of this program is to give students from poor neighborhoods a glimpse inside their wealthier counterpart’s lives, from another school. Raquel and Melanie’s backgrounds were similar, because they were afforded the same opportunities, but they turned out differently. Raquel was driven while Melanie is unambitious.
American Beauty/American Psycho was an album that was sung by the band Fall Out Boy in 2015. Fall Out Boy is an alternative/indie rock band with a little hint of pop in some of their songs. This album, which is the band’s most recent album, is full of a lot of good songs and songs that maybe some people wouldn’t like. Fall Out Boy is a face-paced band, which means their songs are faced-paced. A lot of their songs could be a little hard to understand for people who don’t listen to this kind of music. The album does not have many of these types of songs, which is why it is a favorite among Fall Out Boy fans.

Referring to Anon, he believes that “All conflict in literature is, in its simplest form, a struggle between good and evil.” —Anon What this essentially means is that in literature there is always good and evil but you struggle between being either or. This is a theme that is shown throughout Before We Were Free. There were multiple conflicts that took place in Before We Were Free by Julia Alvarez. These conflicts were man vs society, man vs government and man vs group.
Everyday you experience being around people and observing each individual. What if you realized or was blind that all people are evil. That your life took a turn and things that use to be normal is not anymore because of your tradition or experience. “Young Goodman Brown” and “The Lottery” both show to have the evil in people in some type of way. They can be compared and contrasted in plot, symbolism, and characterization.
Society is inevitable. It will always be there as a pleasure and a burden. Society puts labels on everything as good or bad, rich or poor, normal or aberrant. Although these stamps are accurate, most of them are misconceptions. In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein has created a creature which he frequently refers to as the “monster”, who has been formed by society to become a wretch to Victor and those who come into contact with him. The monster was nurtured to be good by the actions of Victor, but once he came into contact with the rest of society, he became evil. These evil actions were directed towards Victor in an attempt to get revenge for neglecting him. Due to being in contact with society, the monster was changed from his goodness to an evil wretch.
There is an undeniable presence of psychological disorders that have been weaved in to the lyrics of countless songs in the music world. The band Hollywood Undead have composed several songs creating frequent undertones of physiological issues that are diagnosable according to criteria in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition (DSM5). The best representations of Severe Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), substance abuse, suicidal ideation, planning, and attempts that lines up with the DSM 5 I 've come across is represented in their song “Bullet.” The following will be a presentation on severe MDD coupled with substance abuse presenting suicidal
Deep inside my gut I get a queasy feeling every time I read 'Lisa Vanderpump and the Yulin Dog-Meat Festival' in the same story.
The essential difference between the heroes and the villains in the novel is that, as opposed to the villains, the heroes possess self-esteem; because of this, they retain their individuality, and do not degenerate into inconspicuousness in the sea of humanity. They place themselves above everyone and everything else, and achieving their own personal happiness with rationality as their guide is the sole purpose of their lives. The villains, on the other hand, live by the ideas of altruism and collectivism. They undermine the importance of the individual as opposed to the majority. They possess no sense of self-worth, and are reduced to a condition in which, in the words of Roark, "they have no self." Ayn Rand thus rejects the claim that it is honourable to live for others or for society.
Did you know that George W. Bush approved the CIA's idea to torture suspected terrorists? Well that is what Green Day's album American Idiot was protesting when they created the album. The album American Idiot was communicating one main message. That George W. Bush was wrong to demonise all muslims are the same and are all part of the Taliban. They described George W. Bush as a racist and predaceous towards the innocent muslims that just wanted to live there life in the safety of America and escape all the war and death that lurks in there war torn countries.
Gil Junger’s film ’10 Things I Hate About You’ smartly and comically appropriates Shakespeare’s ‘Taming of The Shrew’ whilst maintaining the values and themes from the original. It would’ve been quite the challenge for one to create a modern version of a 16th century play as they would have to incorporate the main ideas and themes as well as making it fitting to today’s modern society and how we can make relations to the scenes and problems. Themes and values from the original play must be involved within the film and be conspicuous; displayed successfully in order to create a strong appropriation. Some of these have been reflected through the cinematic techniques the director has used to give emphasis and comedy. The themes I shall be discussing are Love/Marriage/Dating, Family Relationships and the Role of Women. The difference between the interpretations of Love/Marriage/Dating in the film and play are indubitably contrasting as Gil Junger Shakespeare have different beliefs to the theme. Family
He is neither. He is, rather, a grandiose narcissist who deserves to be in prison.''This men is saying that he is bad well he is wrong because he is showing what the law is a bout because if you dint say nothing to the people then how is that a free society ? So know would you still think the snowmen is a villain or a hero just because he is showing are rights like a free society. In conclusion, I think the literal of resistance anti bad because they show all are rights like a free society that they say that it's suppose to be.And that people should say what they think in not be afraid to resit that would make are country even more a free society then the government want as to they dint say any thing because they want you to believe what they tell but at least we still have good people that fight for a free
In the idiocy of mumble rap, I agree that mumble rappers shouldn’t be called MC and that rap or hip hop was supposed to be poetry and have message and means. However, mumble rappers can’t and shouldn’t be called hip hop because it lack of lyricism, technical skill and you just can’t understand what they are saying. Therefore, I think mumble rappers should have their own genre so that it not labelled as hip hop or rap. Therefore, this week I have learn that hip hop and rap have play an important role in black lives and society that rap was used to give individuals a comprehensive view of what it was like to live in dangerous underprivileged area in United State.
syndrome from the incredibles is a great example of a malicious villain because he killed every super hero and created a robot just so he could be the only hero. it shows how evil people can be. it shows what a person will do just to be in the stop light. i believe people are both with both evil and good and they have the power to choice weather they act civil or evil. god gave them the choice and opportunity to be good they just have to want it, and it shows how easily people can be persuaded to be cruel human being just because they want everyone looking at them. mans greatest drug is fame. the high will go away and the detox is a lot harder to come off of. man will want to become moral and civil again and he can because thats his choice
