The Amethyst is my absolute favorite stone and always has been. Ever since I was young, I have been drawn to it. As purple is my favorite color and I just can’t seem to stay away from it, I love the vibrancy the color of the Amethyst gives off. It seems to me like a source of solace, and when I have one close in a time of need, it gives me the feeling of being wrapped in a comforting blanket. As it feels this way, I am sometimes tempted to put it against my face, as you would a childhood stuffed animal or blanket. For some reason, Amethyst continuously sparks a fire of admiration in me and this is why I have chosen to do my research paper on the matter.
The Amethyst is one of the most common crystals in the world and can be found just about anywhere. The most common places to find one are all over the U.S., Britain, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Russia, East Africa, Sri Lanka, India, Uruguay, and Siberia. Commonly acquired today, Amethyst was quite expensive before the discovery of the large Brazilian deposit in the 19th century. Before this time, it

was worth as much as even a diamond. The Amethyst is discovered in all shapes and sizes from giant (160+ lbs) or small geodes, to crystal clusters, and even single points. The crystals are a bit transparent, with an intense lavender, violet, or purple color. A marvelously work of nature, the amethyst gets it’s color from iron impurities, sometimes transitional element impurities, the presence of trace elements and irradiation. Though the Amethyst is a common stone, it is still considered a precious gem and is the birthstone for the month of February, the month that was committed to Neptune by the Romans, and is also the gem to signify a 6th and 17th wedding anniversary. With the scientific compound name of Silicon Dioxide (SiO2), Amethyst is part of the Quartz family and is customarily used in jewelry. The name Amethyst is actually derived from Ancient Greek. From the ancient Greek a-, meaning “not” and méthystos meaning “intoxicated”. This comes from their ancient belief that an amethyst would keep its holder from becoming inebriated or drunk. Having this belief in mind, the Ancient Greeks often wore and decorated their cups and chalices with the precious stone. Coveted by a number of people, including royals, Russia’s Catherine the Great commanded thousands of miners to mine within the Ural Mountains and find it for her. There have been a number of claims through many different cultures of it’s preternatural capabilities. From driving out evil spirits, to protecting people from snakebites, and even favorable luck in hunting and war. In the spiritual aspect, Amethyst is a sort of natural tranquiliser, blocking negative energies from the environment and geopathic stress (which comes from ley line, underground water and power lines, etc.). An incredibly powerful stone, amethyst is actually known to alter any negative energy directed toward one into loving energy. It is also supposed to help with meditation, taking your thoughts and directing them towards tranquility and relaxation. Helping with better organization in the mind, Amethyst can also help keep you focused, creative, and enhances higher states of consciousness. One could sleep with an Amethyst to induce innate or intuitive dreaming or out of body experiences. Also, while scrying, one could place an Amethyst on their third eye to encourage the process. Amethyst is a wonderful stone for connecting mind, body, and soul. In a healing aspect, the Amethyst is a great cleanser of blood and boosts hormone production. Moreover, Amethyst is also know to be a marvelous physical, psychological, and emotional pain and stress reliever. As single points are for physical healing, geodes can be placed around one’s home for an environmental healing or improvement. With a high spiritual vibration, the amethyst is a great stone for healing, spiritual, emotional, and physical. This information is actually incredible, in my mind, especially the healing and spiritual aspects of the stone. Amethyst was the first stone I had ever used for my spiritual practices. As a matter of fact, it was the only stone that I had for quite a while. I always knew it had some sort of power to it, but never really understood the full potential of the amethyst. The one I currently possess is a small geode, of lilac progressing into a vibrant lavender color. This has been my most treasured stone that I have had for many years now, and is still my favorite out of my collection. I have used the stone for magickal purposes, such as consecration - which the gem, itself, is consecrated -, spells, and meditation. I did notice that when I bring the amethyst out for meditation, I have an easier time focusing, I feel more at peace, and can develope more vibrant visuals. So, it was very interesting to read that it has a significant effect on one’s meditation. I have also used the amethyst in attempts to open my third eye. It was semi-successful as I could feel pressure in the middle of my forehead for about a week, there. But, that was about the extent of the experience. I believe this is because, as stated in The Crystal Bible by Judy Hall, a chevron amethyst, not a geode, is a better, if not the best, option for third-eye prompting. I feel that, now that I have gained this knowledge, in the future, I will be looking out for more specific amethysts to help me with my spiritual practices and studies. Amethyst is one of the most powerful stones that I have worked with. Then again, I haven’t worked with that many stones. But, that does not discredit my love and enthusiasm for this precious gem. As I have said before, I have been drawn to the amethyst long before I started my Pagan or spiritual works and practices. In fact, I feel that I am subconsciously drawn to any type of quartz, as my collection is mostly that, such as Smokey Quartz, Clear Quartz, and Rose Quartz. Not to mention, I myself have cultivated most of my stones from Big Canoe, Ga. Most of which happened to be quartz. I am not sure, exactly, what that means, if it happens to be a sign.
Perhaps, it is all just coincidence. It also may just be a coincidence that my favorite color is purple and my fiancee’s favorite color is green, my birthstone being Peridot and his being Amethyst. I have yet to figure this out. But, in the meantime, I will still continue to take comfort in my amethyst, as it is the stone that speaks to me an effects me the most in life. It seems to just pop up everywhere! I could just glance at an amethyst and I feel at ease, almost at complete peace. I sometimes even like to carry my geode around within my purse (as it is far too big to incorporate into jewelry), as to keep me calm and not feel anxious. Just knowing that I have it with me makes me feel better. Amethyst acts almost as a spiritual or energy filter. Nothing has ever affected me in that way and I will always hold the amethyst exceedingly close to my
heart.
Her work resembles fossils and botanical illustration pages at the same time. Her simplicity and willingness to give back to her community is also an attribute I admire of her. Her work is important because of it has been used a medium to convey precious memories through the preservation of flowers. This artist inspires me because of her mastery of such a simple technique to create beautifully simplistic, yet intricately detailed works. This is an aesthetic I hope to achieve in my personal work because of my love of detail and organic shapes, such as flowers. It is amazing how she has achieved such wonderfully detailed and organic shapes using a medium that I never thought to be used in such an organic
To begin with, the focal point of this piece is a woman 's face with a map of the world on it. I attempted to draw the face with a likeliness to Amniata in mind, by incorporating the moon marks that are adorned on her face. As well as her facial expression is rather difficult to read. From the beginning of novel, Amniata says; "My eyes are hard to read, and I like them so"(8). She takes it great care in concealing her emotions.
Deep within African mines, elusive diamonds lay enveloped in the Earth’s crust. Possessing much influence, beauty, and tension, nature’s hardest known substance causes parallel occurrences of unity and destruction on opposite sides of the globe. Diamonds, derived from the Greek word "adamas", meaning invincible, are formed deep within the mantle, and are composed entirely from carbon. Moreover, only under tremendous amounts of heat and pressure can diamonds form into their preliminary crystal state. In fact, diamonds are formed approximately 150km- 200km below the surface and at radical temperatures ranging from 900-1300 C°. When these extremes meet, carbon atoms are forced together creating diamond crystals. Yet how do these gems, ranking a ten on Moh’s hardness scale, impact the individual lives of millions of people besides coaxing a squeal out of brides-to-be? These colorless, yellow, brown, green, blue, reddish, pink, grey and black minerals are gorgeous in their cut state, but how are these otherwise dull gems recognized and harvested? Furthermore, how and why is bloodshed and violence caused over diamonds in Africa, the supplier of approximately 65% of the world’s diamonds? (Bertoni) The environmental, social, and economic impact of harvesting, transporting, and processing diamonds is crucial because contrary to popular belief, much blood has been spilled over first-world “bling”.
Objective The ability to analyze a substance and determine properties of the substance is an important skill for AP Chemistry students. Major concepts for the “Analysis of Alum” laboratory are percent composition, water of hydration, and molecular formula. They will be used in three different experiments to determine the melting point of alum, the mole ratio of hydrated water to anhydrous alum, and percent of sulfate ion contained in alum. The values acquired in the lab should be close to the calculated values of 92.5 ˚F, 12 moles of water to 1 mole of alum, and 59%, respectively.
The amethyst ring is the most valuable thing Ha’s family has. On page 103, it states,” Mother wants to sell the amethyst ring Father bought back from America, where he trained in the navy before I was
Chrysanthemums was painted in the middle years of Renoir’s career. It is a vibrant portrayal of a vase of chrysanthemums in a vase on a table, with a simple, yet poignant background. Although in today in France, chrysanthemums may symbolize bereavement and death 4, Renoir’s depiction is of a flourishing plant, teeming with life and activity. Renoir employs a cooler palate in this work; Blue greens and cool reds are used to create shadows, depth, and contrast to the painting which help to engage the viewer. The flowers sit comfortably in a vase on what appears to be a patterned white table cloth draped loosely over a small circular table. This painting is an excellent example of Renoir’s artistic style; His favor o...

These materials mattered to the artist, he saw something old and renewed it in an artistic manner. My response to this piece of art is that it is beautiful in term of its structure. The artistic form is expressed through a variation in colors, especially the gold strip and how it is woven into the other colors. This subject
The white blossoms within the chrysanthemum show both beauty and independence. I grew up around various people who taught me to be elegant and have composure no matter who I am around. My Mom was one of the many people that taught me that it is important to surround yourself with people who see you for who you really are. That life lesson is important so that if new people come into my life they do not expect me to change. Another life lesson my mom taught me was how to acquire being independent and having responsibilities at a young age. My Mom often worked long hours and took night classes after work. While she was gone, I often was with my grandparents. I was around older people throughout my childhood which allowed me to become more self-reliant at a younger age than most children.
When people pass by the rocks in the yard they don't notice there actual beauty. But after Andy works on them and polishes them he is able to show there beauty who lack that in there life. Andy talks about this when he says “I didn't even dare touch them, they were so pretty. There's a crying shortage of pretty things in the slam, and the real pity of it is that a lot of men don't even seem to miss them” (King 24).
I am going to discuss about the element known as gold in my assignment. To describe the element gold in simple terms, I can only say that it is an element (chemical element). This element is denoted by the symbol Au. It has an atomic number of seventy nine (79). I will describe quite a number of things concerning gold as an element. To begin with is:
Clear Quartz is a popular and the most powerful healing crystal, beeing able to work on any condition. Quartz is the second most common mineral found on the Earth (after Feldspar), and it is found all over the world.
Long ago, in the land of Cyprus, there once was a sculptor named Pygmalion, who became so appalled by the actions of prostitutes that he sought to correct in ivory the flaws he condemned in women of flesh and blood. In other words, Pygmalion’s disgust for women inspired him to create Galatea, a statue of unparalleled beauty. No one was like her, and soon Pygmalion himself became enchanted with his creation. With each stroke of his hammer and chisel, his affection grew. Despite her inanimateness, Pygmalion fell for the perfection of Galatea. Draping her with the finest of clothing, as well as adorning her with the loveliest of jewels, Pygmalion would continuously furnish Galatea with gifts ranging from seashells to flowers. Blinded by love, Pygmalion ignored the dilemma that she was carved in stone, and incessantly kissed her. That is until one day, during the festival of Aphrodite, Pygmalion decided to pray for a girl of the same likeness as his statue in order for his love to be returned. Moved by his passion,
At first I was unsure as to why amber would necessarily be representative of Freyja and vice versa. However, Freyja was the Norse goddess of love and beauty. Firstly, this story is all about love in it's many forms: true love, lost love, forsaken love, love of possessions, love for oneself. And the necklace is beauty: Freyjas beauty, the beauty of natural amber itself, the beauty in creativity. I feel that the amber in this myth also represents healing.
It is the part of geology that is in charge of the study of rocks from the genetic point and from their relationships with other rocks, very closely related with magma. It is considered one of the main parts of geology. An igneous petrologist studies every aspect of magma in order to know
