The American Revolution began in 1775 and was a result of three political acts that were introduced: the Stamp Act, the Townshend Acts, and the Intolerable acts. It is one of the most influential political revolutions in history, informing the world of the concept of republican governments. It was mainly caused by American citizens who heavily disliked the British. They began to defy the English attempts to inflict larger authority over the 13 colonies. The French and Indian War, ending in 1763, lasted 7 years and brought new territories in regards to royalty. Although due to its extreme expense, it caused heavy taxation. It granted every American citizen equal rights, liberty, and the ability to be in pursuit of happiness. This legal form was debated for 2 days but then accepted by the state representatives. The most divisive subject was about slavery; Thomas Jefferson reprimanded the king for his participation in the slave trade. The clause was not pursued and was dropped to make sure each of the 13 colonies were in support of the declaration. Even more than 200 years later, Americans still celebrate this date, which is known as Independence Day, or the Fourth of July. Over 25,000 men died during the armed conflict, a huge chunk of the 13 colonies’ population of just 2.5 million. That is 1 percent of America’s inhabitants during that time, so it greatly decreased their supply of workers. The Revolution and its war, spanning 7 years, came to a close in 1783, when the Treaty of Paris was signed. It established a separation between America and Britain, when the United States was able to truly be independent and function as its own nation.
