What is the American Dream in our society today? People described the American dream as being materialistic, self-absorbed, and full of greed. Wealth and status play a large role in the American Dream of today’s society. The mindset of this era is filled with a “get-rich-quick” mindset and that with money, people can achieve anything. “Those who believe money can do everything are frequently prepared to do everything for money” (George Savil). People will do anything to get that quick rich mindset so they’ll do anything to go large amounts of money. The only way you can flourish in life is if you are wealthy, people seen as having it all together, they are to have the dream. No longer is the dream something that a poor person can achieve. The dream is different for every one and there isn’t a concert definition of it but only a way of seeing it. It has changed from being a hardworking citizen well educated and providing your family with the essentials, to a self and money-seeking one. Spoken from President Obama and since he is the president more people will listen and respect his view, a lot of the republicans might not but they will listen to his point of view. If I was the one saying this quote in a speech most people will just over look me and not even notice.
