America Singer is the main character of The Selection series. She is extremely kind, compassionate, humble, and beautiful. The definition of America is someone who has “an eagerness for knowledge and an intense desire to do something worthwhile in life” (last one). As the story develops and into the series, this is true. At the beginnings of “The Selection” she is not sure of anything except for her love for Aspen. She did not want to do anything except be with him, and she had no interest in being in the selection. Although, throughout the next few books and towards the end of “The Selection” America begins to fall in love with Prince Maxon. When she eventually marries him and becomes queen she does begin to fit this definition by making great …show more content…
Maxon is the Prince of Illea and the son of Clarkson Schreave. He is the Prince who had to look for women in the selection to be his wife, princess, and eventually queen. He is insightful, smart, handsome, and caring. “The name of Maxon creates a quiet, systematic, and technical nature and a clever, inventive mind, attentive to detail,” (last one idrk). This is a very accurate description of Maxon. He does have a very inventive, clever and systematic mind as his ideas for the country are very original and full of change. He is consequently also quiet and technical. On another source, they had said Maxon means “greatest,” (idk). This is also true because he is the prince and king of Illea and most citizens would have described him as one of the greatest …show more content…
He would occasionally go as far as abusing Maxon and was often intoxicated. “Clarkson is a dual influence: at times you can be extremely happy, expressive, full of fun, and good-natured; yet at other times you find congenial association impossible, being controlled by self-pity, moods, and depression,” (lol). Part of this definition is true because in front of cameras and others he is portrayed as a “happy, expressive, full of fun” person, father and king but he is actually extremely harsh. The second part of the definition fits King Clarkson Schreave perfectly, he is extremely moody depending on who he is in front of. He deals with his depression, self-pity, and the stress of being in control of the country by drinking. Consequently, his actions become worse and more dangerous. He is not a good person and his mood swings make him
Kathryn Dennis of Southern Charm has been dealing with a lot lately, and it sounds like she now has a new man in her life. The bad part is this guy doesn't seem like he is going to be a great influence on her. All About the Tea shared the details all about Kathryn's new man in her life that is known to be a pill pusher. Kathryn has been on again and off with again with Thomas Ravenel for a while, but it now looks like she has moved on.
The Power of an Author Authors have the ability justify the worst actions. Authors have a way of romanticizing certain situations in order to convey a specific message. A good author has power to influence the reader into believing whatever it is the author wants. When it comes to the story of Hannah Dustan, authors such as John Greenleaf Whittier have romanticized her captivity story along with the actions she took throughout her journey. Introducing a character that will be seen in the story is one of the most vital parts when creating a piece of literature.
In today's society there are lots of people that believe that dumb people can not accomplish anything in there whole life. From the book Freak the Mighty this point is proven wrong. Max and Kevin, are the two most important characters in Freak the Mighty, they can both be described as dynamic characters. Each of them goes through major changes that are revealed through their actions, and by what the author says about them. Maxwell embodies the archetype of the hero's journey. I will discuss this issue using the fact that he has a birth, a calling/journey, and a return.

translates in English as being a story that traces the spiritual, moral, psychological, or social development and growth of the main character from childhood to maturity. This is a prototype of John Updike's short story, "A & P," the protagonist, Sammy, is faced with a difficult dilemma, and comes to realize a universal truth about human behavior. Sammy comes to understand that the world is an unusual place and that irrational choices based on impulse are not the best way to solve personal issues.

He has a whole new ideology. Defined in McLaren’s “Critical Pedagogy: A Look at the Major Concepts”, ideology is “…a way of viewing the world, a complex view of ideas, various types of social practices, rituals, and representations that we tend to accept as natural and as common sense,” (69). Max, now a part of a very prestigious high school, can now see himself much more lofted than he once was. He is the son of a barber and though never explicitly stated, it is understood that Max is on some sort of scholarship. Since everyone else acts loftier because they go to Rushmore, Max seems to feel that he has to take on this same

Before he didn’t understand the concept of free-will, but now that he does his morals are turning around. The government was trying to prevent this from happening because they govern their people by taking their free-will away from them causing them to do violent acts. When the people lose their free-will that’s how the government keeps the population down and everyone under their control. “A young thug who looks for violence rape and aggression ends himself in jail.” (Thill). The government uses this as a tactic to keep the cycle going. “In the Clockwork Orange, the anarchy quality of the society, indicates that pelagian liberals are in power.”(Novels). The Pelagian liberals control the people the whole time. Taking away their free-will the government brain washes the people. They brainwash the criminals to keep the population regulated and it instills the fear into the people, keeping the civilians always in fear not rebelling. The Liberals are always in control because they take away everyones
Defining the American character is quite difficult because American identity is vaguely founded on shared values and ideologies, more so than a particular creed, race, or culture. In order to describe the American character, we will consider the dominate and distinctive qualities of Americans as interpreted by J. Hector St. Jon De Crèvecoeur and Thomas Paine. First, we will examine how Crèvecoeur illustrates Americans as industrious, prideful, and political in “Letters from an American Farmer.” Then, we will analyze from Thomas Paine's “Common Sense” how he depicts the prevalent qualities of Americans to be driven by justice, liberty, emotions, and individualism. Also, because both authors consider the American character and culture different
América’s view of the US changes drastically as the story progress. In the beginning of the story she is full of enthusiasm about coming to America with her husband Candido; due to the fact he promised they would have a better life. As the story progresses reality hits and she realizes that the American Dream isn’t easy to achieve. América realizes this by how she finds herself settling in a canyon with no clean water, not enough money and then having to work a lot after Candido is in the accident and then proceeding to steal from a garden just to have vegetables for her family.
America singer in The Elite by Kiera Cass faces several challenges with herself and with the other girls in the competition. The main conflict in this book is internal although she does face external obstacles while competing against the other girls. The conflict is internal as America is constantly going back and forth over who she loves and what she is willing to sacrifice for it. She has confessed her love for Maxon, but she ‘needs more time’ so he gives her space and she goes and sneaks around with Aspen. Throughout the whole book she is fighting with herself, debating on who she wants to be with, the prince or her first love. As she is trying to choose who she loves more she is constantly distracted by the rebels who keep attacking the
Today us Americans have came a long way from the 1900s. There were a lot of people and things that were fighting for our freedom and to stay independent. Some of the people were Malcolm X, Rodolfo Gonzales and Langston Hughes. The document that was fighting for Americans was “The Declaration of Independence”. That is still one of the things that is helping Americans today.
