America Singer is the main character of The Selection series. She is extremely kind, compassionate, humble, and beautiful. The definition of America is someone who has “an eagerness for knowledge and an intense desire to do something worthwhile in life” (last one). As the story develops and into the series, this is true. At the beginnings of “The Selection” she is not sure of anything except for her love for Aspen. She did not want to do anything except be with him, and she had no interest in being in the selection. Although, throughout the next few books and towards the end of “The Selection” America begins to fall in love with Prince Maxon. Maxon is the Prince of Illea and the son of Clarkson Schreave. He is the Prince who had to look for women in the selection to be his wife, princess, and eventually queen. He is insightful, smart, handsome, and caring. “The name of Maxon creates a quiet, systematic, and technical nature and a clever, inventive mind, attentive to detail,” (last one idrk). This is a very accurate description of Maxon. He does have a very inventive, clever and systematic mind as his ideas for the country are very original and full of change. He is consequently also quiet and technical. On another source, they had said Maxon means “greatest,” (idk). He would occasionally go as far as abusing Maxon and was often intoxicated. “Clarkson is a dual influence: at times you can be extremely happy, expressive, full of fun, and good-natured; yet at other times you find congenial association impossible, being controlled by self-pity, moods, and depression,” (lol). Part of this definition is true because in front of cameras and others he is portrayed as a “happy, expressive, full of fun” person, father and king but he is actually extremely harsh. The second part of the definition fits King Clarkson Schreave perfectly, he is extremely moody depending on who he is in front of. He deals with his depression, self-pity, and the stress of being in control of the country by drinking. Consequently, his actions become worse and more dangerous.
