Through the internship, I have developed an institution competency in addition to the technical and administration competency. In particular, I have gained exposure to the health policy formulation/implementation and development of health system in diverse communities throughout staff training sessions, projects and assignments which I observed and participated. Also, I gained exposure to assessment of health status in population by implementing of survey assessment and patient satisfaction. Moreover, I developed an understanding of management of health risks (risk management) such as being aware of healthcare challenges environment. My participation is to review the Veterans’ CPRS files for background information upon receiving the Veterans’ concern letter sent to Office of the Director and try developing a solution while calling the Veterans. Once Veteran concerns are resolved, I needed to write a Report of Contact and send it along with the original Speak to the Director to an authorized administrative staff.
Upon the request from a Nurse Coordinator in Neurosurgery Clinic, I developed the Activities Daily Living (ADL) Assessment Questionnaire for Spinal Cord Injury Center. I reviewed and revised the previous OSWESTRY Questionnaire, then created a new ADL Assessment Questionnaire with the patient’s opinion rating scale. The purpose is to improve the patient centered care and patient satisfaction. These questionnaires are designed to give information to the staffs in Spinal Cord Injury Center how the Veterans’ back or leg pain is affecting their ability to manage in everyday life after the

The Office of Patient Centered Care Funding is supporting the physicians to get acupuncture training and certification through Helms Medical Institute. Furthermore, I have developed an understanding of the Aromatherapy Action Plan and Bonham Whole Health Pilot – Domiciliary Flow map which are presented by the member of PCC Committee in the meeting. The idea of Aromatherapy Action Plan is to create an environment of care that enhances the Veterans hospital experience by offering the option to integrate aroma-therapy into their plan of care. Also, it estimates the effectiveness of Aromatherapy on Veterans with spinal cord injury overall hospital experience. As for the Bonham Whole Health Pilot, it is integrative Health practices catalyze synergies across the dimensions of health and well-being to activate the Veterans’ innate healing
During this internship I had a variety of tasks that made me understand and develop my skills in cardiac rehab, stress testing, working at the hospital in the CVCU, and also talking to the patients in the hospital about coming to outpatient cardiac rehab. During my time in the outpatient cardiac rehab I have learned and perfected how to take a manual blood pressure, check heart rates, oxygen levels, and be able to teach and instruct our patients on healthy habits to ensure they are staying healthy and active outside the rehab facility. I learned to do a full disclosure on a patient, meaning to check their EKG, find out their max heart rates during exercise, and send a note to the doctor if anything abnormal should occur. I’ve learned to chart and tech

o What are the important components of building a strong community within the uniquely diverse PSU campus?
I chose a career as a medical assistant because of the rewards I knew I would experience on a daily basis. Seeing a patient smile because I have helped them understand, or just making them feel comfortable with their visit, is just one of the many perks of my job. Upon graduating from an accredited college such as The College of Health Care Professions (CHCP), I now work for one of the most reputable hospitals in my area. Within two short years of committed studies, I obtained my associate of applied science degree, and then went on to obtain my certification as a medical assistant. There is nothing I have found more fulfilling, strong, secure, or rewarding then choosing to become a medical assistant,

In this article, the author openly questions whether it is a good idea to let high school or college students trying to pursue a medical career shadow physicians by sharing her personal experience and research results. She indicates that the physician shadowing tradition goes back more than 60 years and involves not only medical or pre-med student, but also high school teenagers (Kitsis, 2013). Although the author highly doubts the actual benefit from physician shadowing and the problem of patient privacy, I still think physician shadowing is a necessary activity for both students and the health system.
These alternative treatments include acupuncture, meditation, and therapy among many others. There is growing evidence that the desire for alternative medicine is expanding because people undergoing procedures in today’s health care system has had unmet needs as well as feelings of being uncared for (Acari & Flanagan, 2015). Alternative medicine is able to provide patients with treatments that provide relief for hard to cure problems such as back pain, neck pain, and arthritis. Many of these alternative treatments have been shown to be successful for various problems. The use of complimentary and alternative medicine as well as the open ended communication that holistic nursing provides is gaining popularity from patients who are fed up with traditional care and hospital
Complementary and alternative therapies are relatively new and essential options in health care, they help to increase the quality of life of patients and provide them with numerous possibilities to ensure growth of their health, beyond current medicine. Recently, these therapies, such as massage therapy and acupuncture, have become more prevalent in research. Consequently, their substitution with standard medicine in the healthcare system has been supported by the literature. The literature that supports these methods has explored why complementary therapies are needed, the different and distinct features of each therapy, and they also examine the education and knowledge those implementing the services must have. To accurately analyze if complementary and alternative therapies are valuable to the health care system, this paper will aim to learn why they are becoming predominant and why nurses should use these therapies’ to assist in improving the health of individuals. To determine the main attributes of these therapies, a variety of resources that extensively discuss complementary and alternative therapies will be examined and the paper will also examine the benefits and weaknesses they have on improving health. Lastly, this paper will aim to determine if these services should be implemented by nurses as alternative options for their patients, as nurses should have substantial knowledge pertaining to implementing these therapies.

The purpose of this essay is to discuss and reflect on my performance demonstrating caring for a patient with an intravenous cannula. This includes priming an intravenous line and administering 100ml of normal saline following the patients documented medical orders. I will be using the Gibbs (1998) reflective cycle to exhibit my ability to link theory to practice, to explore different ideas and ways of thinking about my practice and to promote self improvement.
During my observership, my clinic intern mentor was Shiyama Hassan. Overall it was an enjoyable, less stressful academic experience.I got a chance to take patient histories, examination and patient’s vital sign monitoring and charting. I didn’t feel much difference in observing my mentor taking the history and when I was taking the history, it could be related to my past experience. However, every time I was curious to know what is happening with the patients and what caused him to seek naturopathic medical advice. During this clinic shadowing, I saw genuine interest of my mentor and supervisor to help patients concerns, unlike to allopathic model of prescribing medication. It helped me to improve my interviewing skills to look root cause for

In my journey through my undergrad years, I have realized that becoming a health administrator will allow me to address several of my interests while also allowing me to serve my community. I will be able to expand my thirst for knowledge while also making a self-efficiency community. I feel as a health care administrator, I need to encompass the role of a lifelong learner. For this to be continuing achieved, I need to be critically reflective of my environment and the people in the community.
