The active aging vision aims to contribute for a healthy, autonomous, independent life expectation and with quality of life as people get older, including those who are vulnerable, physically disabled or in need of care [1-3]. The term active refers not only to the ability to be physically active or have an occupation, but also be able to participate in social, economic, cultural, civil or spiritual matters. Therefore, the elderly, even when having some kind of pathology or disability, should continue to contribute actively in social terms, together with their family, friends and community [3]. In this context, technological solutions have a key role in the promotion of human functioning and in the mitigation of disabilities, particularly the ones resulting from the natural aging process. This perspective is evident in the development of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) products and services [4].
1.1. Ambient Assisted Living
AAL is related to digital environments with ubiquitous and non-obstructive intelligence [5] organized to support a wide range of products or services that intend to extend the permanence of older people active in their homes [4].

AAL products or services may also contribute to guarantee elderly people security (eg, alarm devices) and, consequently, give them control of their daily life situations [6]. The AAL solutions can also contribute to disease prevention and health promotion, providing mechanisms that help overcome difficult situations such as those related to chronic diseases
As a nursing home model, Green Houses are obviously providers of long-term care services, including basic nursing and medical services. According to Kane et al., “A group of GHs on a campus or scattered in a residential neighborhood operates under a nursing home license and within a state’s usual Medicaid reimbursement amounts, although a redistribution of expenditures could occur (2007). Researchers of healthcare management (and healthcare managers themselves) have an interest in studying the differences healthcare management variables that arise between different nursing home models. Healthcare management factors of interest include a model’s financial feasibility (especially for nursing home services covered by some public funds, like Medicaid),
It is a well-known fact most Americans seniors would prefer to age in their own homes instead of moving into senior living communities. Meeting seniors where they are is a trend that will most likely affect assisted living facilites in the future. One of the main focuses from providers is being patient centerd. Meaning working with the patient to ensure that the best possible care is given. Providers are working with patients and offereing more services within their homes. Another trend that we will see in assisted living facilites is a competive pressure. According to the National Investment Center for Senior Housing and Care, competition housing is an increasing trend that is affecting living situtions for the elderly
There are many environmental influences as well as human behaviors that contribute to one’s expected life span. Health and lifestyle are two major factors that play a role in determining what life would be like during the senior years of life. There are many advantages to having a strong social support network that consists of caregivers paid and unpaid. Seniors with this tend to live longer, remain independent and stay active in their later years. Citizens in today’s society are living longer due to technology, medications and an overall healthier lifestyle. Many reach the age of 100 but the maximum human life span is 120 years old. One’s personal data, career choices, environmental influences and amount of active interactions will determine how those of the older population will experience the aging process.
Only about one half of all older adults (ages 65 and older) use email addresses or the internet, compared to 90% of those 18-64 years old who use email addresses or the internet (Older Adults, Technology, and the Future of Long-Term Care, 2015). The later age group is the future, indicating that they will be the most tech-savvy and prepared for the tech adjustments in long term care. The middle aged technology consumers of today are the older adults of tomorrow. Currently, older adults characterize the fastest growing age group of technology users in the country, and these rates will continue to increase every year (Tak et al, 2010). Therefore, in order for long term care to survive and attract baby boomers as its consumers, it must change. The change begins with the use of technology. Technology should assess, help, become accustomed to assist in cognitive and functional abilities, catalyze instead of replacing socialization, and use recognizable interface (Leventhal, 2014). In the future, savvy older adult consumers will be comparing facilities technology, allowing them to establish a competitive drive among facility administrators to upgrade their services. The use of technology within long term care will present the likelihood of doing more services with less manpower and administrative costs. To deal with the issue of an aging population, an awareness campaign about the health issues that commonly affect aged people should be run by the government and non-governmental agencies. In addition, awareness should be created among the young to accommodate the elderly; at home as well as at work places...
According to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, there will be a need for assistance with activities of daily living (ADL's) increases dramatically with age. Only 2.6 percent of person’s age 65-74 need assistance with personal care compared with 31.6

Nursing homes are for people who do not have the ability to take care of themselves in their own home. They are similar to hospitals, they provide medical care, physical care, and speech and occupational therapy. For this assignment I was asked to go to a nursing home and ask the facility questions and make my own observations. I was able to choose a facility easily due to the day my mom has been a CNA at the Gorham house for about two years. She works in the unit where people are mostly in the last stages of their lives, so they require a lot of assistance. After being able to make my quick visit, I was able to ask many questions and made observations on what it is like to work and to live in these facilities.
Assisted living is an effective type of care facility programmed towards helping older individuals with their increasing disabilities. “The fit between individual capacity and the availability of satisfying activities within an environment is an important aspect of positive aging and an especially salient issue for ALF [Assisted Living Faculty] management, given the role of activities in the consumer selection of assisted living”.2 This isolation of this quote is “positive aging”. Positive aging is important since it leads individuals to have a happier and more fulfilling life, and it can be supported through everyday activities and through the living environment. In nursing homes, each individual needs help with making sure that they are given care that meets their needs. This varies through different states and also communities. The purpose of the quote is to show that each person should be evaluated individually, meaning everyone needs a different approach to deal with the aging process.
With the aging population growing faster every year many families must make a difficult decision whether their loved ones should live in assisted living or nursing home facilities. I can relate because I made the decision to care for my mother at my home. Some people do not have the money or resources to care for their parent so they must live in a facility for health and safety reasons.
The goal for most people as they grow older and into senior years, is to remain independent and in their own home. However with more senior citizens remaining in their home and some living alone, safety becomes a big issue. Many items that we may find harmless, such as an unsecured rug, can be a hazard for an elderly person. In this paper I will introduce you to my senior mentor and explain the findings of the home assessment I conducted for him.
Active ageing does not stop when elderly people retire as they can remain active through their families, peers and communities. Active ageing aims allows elderly people to realise and bring awareness to their own psychological, physical and mental well-being as the goal active ageing is the autonomy and independence of elderly people (Alexandre, Cordeiro, & Ramos, 2009).

Aged care is becoming such a huge part of our health system and society in general. It is so important that we come to an understanding on not only how it affects the community and society that we live in but the requirements that need to be met in order to care for older adults. Throughout this paper, we will discuss active ageing and the cultural, physical, economic and social well-being of older adults, as well as the affect that community as on the older population and visa-vasa. Accompanying this essay is a flyer that well be used to define active ageing, why it is important to individuals and the community. It is important to understand what active ageing is and that health is measured by more than just physical
