Culture, diversity, and rich history are words that describe Alaska, but how often do citizens and visitors of Alaska experience and notice those three aspects? People from all over the world takes a journey to Alaska to witness the beautiful scenery, the wildlife, the food, and the cultures; however, some citizens forget about what encompasses them and they do not embrace the beauty Alaska has to offer. Alaska hosts several events and is also a place for great opportunities. The events and opportunities ranges from topics like science, climate change issues, music, art, leadership, tours, and so much more intriguing activities, but there is one idea that lacks in most of these events and opportunities, the display of Alaska’s culture, diversity, and rich history. At the Alaska State Fair, an idea for a new event would be a way to show the three aspects …show more content…
To do this event, there would only be a stage, a microphone and stand, banners telling what is happening, pictures and art from the different cultures would be hanging up or displayed in someway to attract attention and to add beautiful visuals; chairs, and a stage tent to help performers get out of the heat. For dance groups and singing groups, there would be enough space for motion dancing and instruments; furthermore, for the large dance groups, the stage would fit a few rows of chairs and supply enough space for motion dancing. To make the culture based set organized; there will be timeslots for people who scheduled to perform and speak and a timeslot for people to volunteer to share a song, dance, story or art their culture. To schedule a time, the person or group of people would have to contact someone from the organizers of the Alaska State Fair to schedule a time either before the stage opens or months, weeks or days before the fair
The term sovereignty is a broad topic that has many different definitions. The most common definition is a nation or groups ability or right to govern themselves. Sovereignty is a term and idea that goes hand in hand with Native Americans throughout history. Native American tribes were once considered sovereign nation until shortly after the arrival of European settlers. Native Americans lost their sovereignty due to the forceful assimilation into white culture by European settlers. The problem with this is that Native Americans have been in North American, acting as self-governing groups, since the beginning days. What sets Native Americans apart from other “minority groups” is that they have existed as self-governing peoples and are more than a group
This past week SUU’s native American student association (NASA), hosted their 38th annual powwow. Our club, the SUU Polynesian club was invited to dance for thirty minutes between their activities and we happily accepted. After we danced we were invited to come back so that we could watch and experience the native American culture. I was surprised to see how similar their culture was to ours!
Hi folks, thanks for the response to my previous blog. However, my slothful ways have caught up to me and I need to complete this blog that’s become a few weeks overdue for the Minnesota State Fair. Although, I enjoyed my time at the Minnesota State Fair, although being worn down and tired of hordes of people, I decided not to travel to the Renaissance Fair the following day. However, The Minnesota State Fair was delightful and was able to partake in the music, the culture, and the delicious food. Although my dental regimen was not on par for the toothache that started after eating those sweet delectable cookies. I will explain later in the blog, certainly read further on a few tips for the 2016 Minnesota State Fair.
The capital of Washington is Olympia, thought that was not always its name. In fact, for four years between the founding of Olympia, 1846, and 1850, Olympia was called Smithster, named after two people named Smith and Sylvester who were early inhabitants of Olympia. The name was changed because of the scenic Olympic Mountains creating a nice view north of the city. In 1853, Isaac Stevens appeared as Washington's first territorial governor. Isaac seemed to be a very bright man, and very able. He was first in his class in graduation, and he proved himself to be hardworking and able to handle many tasks given to him at the same time. Truly a first governor to be proud of, even if he was a little short. The current capitol building of Olympia did not appear until 1928, but the one before it was built from 1880 to 1882 and served as the town's courthouse until 1905, when it was made the Capitol building.
As a small child, my parents and I made an annual pilgrimage to the State Fair. For my parents, the primary objective of the trip was to attend the World Championship Horse Show in Freedom Hall. My major enjoyment as a young child was the midway and the fair rides; however, this changed as I grew older.
True west is a story about two brothers that have nothing in common, they grew up becoming opposites and now as they are in their thirties and forties finally a common connection between them. Austin a happily married man with children, also a writer and owns a home in the north. Austin lives a normal middle class life with no added drama, he went to college and is an upstanding citizen. But, Lee on the other hand is a free spirit that does not have a permanent address unless you count the desert as a home, he steals and barraters items to earn money, his effortless mutilation and confidence makes it easy for him to always get his way.
The Chicago World Fair of 1893 was a very important event in American history and culture. The effects of the fair would last even till today. It influenced the American people to reevaluate their own cities. The fair also contributed to the pride of the American people not to mention those in Chicago. Daniel Burnham along with his partner John Root, whom later dies, is given the responsibility of constructing the Chicago World Fair. John Root is actually the architectural genius between the pair and dies before construction barely gets underway. Burnham is motivated by his pride and determination in order to actually get the job done.
As a society of people with different cultures, backgrounds and ideas, progress and civilization lead to development in cultural, social and intellectual advancement. Nowadays the American Vision has altered immensely from the American Vision during the 1893 Worlds fair. Since the time of the fair races and genders that did not fit into the “ideal society” have integrated making a substantial impact on our society. The transformation our nation went through shows great progress of civil obedience that was once uncanny. Consequently, many years ensuing the conversion of the American Vision has directed our nation down a more prosperous path. Looking back, we cannot help ourselves, too wonder, what would our society have been like today if
The population of people living in and around the Oklahoma State Fair Grounds is the target audience and was chosen because there is a teaching opportunity in the community since the Oklahoma State Fair was occurring. The Oklahoma State Fair is known for its outrageous unhealthy food and obese people of the community are seen here every year. The community surrounding the fairgrounds live in housing that ages from 1920’s to the 1970’s. The motivation of this group to become healthier would be access to free healthcare. Since the median household income from 2008-2012 in Oklahoma is $44,891, it would be safe to assume that most people in the community do not have enough income to provide for their families and easily pay for
Pacific Northwest is not only a region in northwest America but also my second home. Pacific Northwest includes: part of Alaska, most of British Columbia, Canada, Washington State, Oregon State, Idaho State, and part of northern California. From the view of climate, most of area of Pacific Northwest has oceanic climate. In oceanic climate, the temperature in summer season is cool, and the temperature in winter season is cold, but not too cold. Also, there is much precipitation during winter season, whereas there is less precipitation during summer season. In Seattle (WA), Portland (OR), and Vancouver (BC), we have a rainy season from mid-October to mid-April. In contrast, it is not so hot, but dry and less humid during summer. The condition

There were so many choices of what to do that it made it impossible for me to attend everything. One of the attention grabbers they use every year jumped out immediately. Good music is always a great attraction. In years past, some of my favorites have performed at the Fair. I enjoyed the night we went and heard an aging Three Dog Night perform, and for a couple hours, I felt as if I was seventeen once again. The practice continued this year. There were four major musical groups at the fair. This included Hinder, Martina McBride, America, and Joe Nichols. To our rural audience at a county fair this was quite a treat. For our bargain hunting values, it was incredible, since the price of admission was
Many people participate in the State Fair every year regardless of age, but for some this is their way of life. Waking up early in the mornings to feed your animals, fitting them for the show, waiting for your chance to show off how great your animal is no matter what the judge says, and then shaking the hand of the judge when they select your animal for Grand/Reserve Champion. This may be short lived for some, but people like me who show at fairs and then go on to the State Fair learned this is a daunting task to make sure your animals are happy, and are also show ready before you walk into the arena.
