Brothers

True west is a story about two brothers that have nothing in common, they grew up becoming opposites and now as they are in their thirties and forties finally a common connection between them. Austin a happily married man with children, also a writer and owns a home in the north. Austin lives a normal middle class life with no added drama, he went to college and is an upstanding citizen. But, Lee on the other hand is a free spirit that does not have a permanent address unless you count the desert as a home, he steals and barraters items to earn money, his effortless mutilation and confidence makes it easy for him to always get his way. Lee and Austin’s mother currently on vacation visiting Alaska, Austin the “responsible son “is there to water her plants also work on his scrip but not before he is interrupted by Lee.
The two brothers bicker a lot at first, Austin is trying to finish his scrip as Lee is hounding him for his car keys. Saul a Hollywood producer stops …show more content…

The old man was an acholic whom would rather party with him bar friends than have a relationship with his son, the old man was broke and only ever asked for money from his children. The department of sociology at the University of Alabama did studies and found children who have alcoholic mothers tend to become more anti-social, having mental health problems also resulting in long turn relationship problems. Lee and Austin’s mother was not a a but their father was, this study was only done on mothers but, Lee follows all the characteristics, could the study be universal for mothers and fathers? Lee lives in an isolated place, having no children nor wife and only calling woman for personal benefit, his drinking is inherited from his father. The Walls children, who frequently encounter their father’s abusive behavior, are affected mentally in the same way that national studies have shown. Jeanette Walls describes how, after drinking, her father’s behavior becomes cruel and intolerable through his use of profanity, threats, and angry, even violent, actions. In a conventional family, a parent has the responsibility of being a role model to influence their children in a positive way as they develop. Unfortunately, in the Walls family and other families with alcoholic parents, children are often subject to abuse and violence, which places them at risk, not only physically, but mentally.     Over the years, the idea of the western frontier of American history has been unjustly and falsely romanticized by the movie, novel, and television industries. People now believe the west to have been populated by gun-slinging cowboys wearing ten gallon hats who rode off on capricious, idealistic adventures. Not only is this perception of the west far from the truth, but no mention of the atrocities of Indian massacre, avarice, and ill-advised, often deceptive, government programs is even present in the average citizen’s understanding of the frontier. This misunderstanding of the west is epitomized by the statement, “Frederick Jackson Turner’s frontier thesis was as real as the myth of the west. The development of the west was, in fact, A Century of Dishonor.” The frontier thesis, which Turner proposed in 1893 at the World’s Columbian Exposition, viewed the frontier as the sole preserver of the American psyche of democracy and republicanism by compelling Americans to conquer and to settle new areas. This thesis gives a somewhat quixotic explanation of expansion, as opposed to Helen Hunt Jackson’s book, A Century of Dishonor, which truly portrays the settlement of the west as a pattern of cruelty and conceit. Thus, the frontier thesis, offered first in The Significance of the Frontier in American History, is, in fact, false, like the myth of the west. Many historians, however, have attempted to debunk the mythology of the west. Specifically, these historians have refuted the common beliefs that cattle ranging was accepted as legal by the government, that the said business was profitable, that cattle herders were completely independent from any outside influence, and that anyone could become a cattle herder.
