My revision paper is on alan moore, Alan Moore is a famous graphic novel writer who has worked on many comic books and graphic novels, these novels are known as Watchmen, The ballad of halo jones, V for Vendetta and From hell. Alan Moore was born on November, 18, 1953, in the United Kingdom, Alan Moore also had several different Occupations other than Being a writer, these other occupations are musician, magician and occultist. Alan moore is also an Anarchist which means he believes in stateless societies. Alan later settled for simply making comic strips on Maxwell, but due to the papers he was working for releasing a negative editorial on Homosexual, he left and went onto other things no longer wanting to be associated with them anymore. Can you imagine walking where the streets are dark and cold with no glimmer of excitement and joy as security cameras watch your every move? Alan Moore certainly could. In fact, he felt he was living in such a place. He saw 1980s England as a fascist society where the lower class were being oppressed. In Moore’s graphic novel, V for Vendetta, he depicts that point in history through the story of future London under the Norsefire Regime. History plays a very important role in Moore’s story and his ideologies about class distinction are very prominent. For these reasons, a cultural poetics and Marxist literary criticism analyzes the story of V for Vendetta in a very interesting and informative way. Using these two literary criticisms I will analyze how the historical time period and economic class Alan Moore was brought up in shapes his view of the class distinctions in his graphic novel and specifically how the Shadow Gallery, Evey, and Rose show how prevalent class distinction is in society and the way it stunts individuals and society as a whole.

Weldon compares books to buildings and writer to builders, the “good builders“, like Austen, “carry a vision of the real world and transpose it into the City of Invention”. The detailed description of the “city’ creates an image within the responder’s mind, impressing upon them the sheer magnitude of literary work available to them to explore, including Austen’s work. It was a state of anarchy within which struggling writers, who came from the lower strata, were writing in journals, newspapers, magazines etc. Great consumption of these kinds of writings led to the formation of the Grub Street (a London Street inhabited by literary hacks such as writers of small histories, dictionaries and temporary poems. The term Grub Street is often used collectively for poor and needy authors who wrote for meager sums of money.) This popular culture, which in the view of historians is created, produced and consumed by people themselves, acquired an identity which it never had before.
