Airbags - Pop em' or Keep em'
During the rainstorm, it's hard to see anything-especially when the downpour makes the windshield wipers work constantly. On this cold, dreary
September night young two year old Mica is safely buckled in her child safety seat, which is attached to the passenger seat belt. Her older brother, Sean, quietly sleeps in the backseat while his mother drives the exhausted children home. Suddenly, out of nowhere, a tall, 12 point buck is caught by the vehicles' headlights. Both the buck and the mother freeze. A milli-second later, a powerful explosion occurs inside the cabin. The airbags deflate nearly as quickly as they inflate, and Sean begins to scream. His mother is fine. The seatbelt along with the airbag saved her from any serious harm. She is still dazed as she looks over to her two year old, expecting more screaming. Nothing.
Nothing happens. She shakes her little girl and realizes that something is drastically wrong. Mica is dead.
At last count, this scenario has happened 31 times. How many more times does it have to happen before the automotive industry does something about it?
Children are not the only victims, though. Small women and the elderly have also been killed as a result of airbags. The time has come to ask ourselves,
"Do airbags really work?"
First off, most people feel that airbags are a great safety device.
They let people walk away from an accident without a scratch, right? They protect everybody, right? People don't need seatbelts if their car has an airbag, right? Wrong. Airbags cause injuries, airbags kill, and airbags don't work unless seatbelts are worn. In a rollover accident, people still have a chance of being thrown from the car even if their car has airbags. Not only are the airbags dangerous, they are also a key target for thieves. The easy to remove airbags coupled with the high street value make them sought after by thieves. The couple of hundred dollars received by the thieves is more than enough incentive to target them, since they are worth more than most car stereos.
When looking at the airbag issue, we must first look at the issue of safety. When the idea of installing airbags was first introduced, it seemed to be a good, life-saving idea. However, according to CNN...

...ecome more dangerous on the roads when they have them. People not only drive faster, they also take more risks, according to Reason magazine. These risks include increased speeding and not wearing their seatbelts. Drivers with airbag equipped cars feel that the airbag gives them an advantage, and that they can drive like a maniac (Carson 14). An airbag will not work properly if a seatbelt isn't worn. This belief can kill, as it has before. Many people would probably still be alive today if they would have worn their seatbelt in conjunction with their airbag. In an accident, the airbag will not prevent the passenger from being ejected from the vehicle.
Throughout life, the one thing that I have learned is that nothing is
100% reliable. If people just wear seatbelts, they face a chance of being ejected at speeds of 70 miles an hour. If people don't wear any safety device, they sustain serious injuries in fender benders. Airbags can even harm people in a low speed crash. Let's not forget that there have already been way too many accidents that were preventable. Let's not have to face the situation of having to look over and realize that our Mica is dead.
In a car crash, the more weight there is, the risk of injuries drops (Williams, May Twenty-second, 2015). In most semi truck accidents (about seventy percent of semi truck accidents), when only the semi truck and trailer alone are involved, there are no deaths. But when another vehicle (such as a car, van, or pickup truck ) is involved, about ninety-eight percent of the time there is at least one fatality, which is really low compared to some other means of transportation (such as a train or an airplane) (EJustice, 2012).
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is the way a corporation achieves a balance between its economic, social, and environmental responsibilities in its operations so as to address shareholder and other stakeholder expectations. In general, when firms hold this wider encouraging role on the public by being engaged with stakeholders, a variety of profit can be produced for both company and the stakeholders. A key inclination is the combination of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) into the organization strategy, culture, mission and communications. By incorporating corporate citizenship into the company it is no longer an additional “nice thing to do” or something made to obey laws or regulations. Instead, corporate responsibility has become something business leaders and workforce want to engage in, frequently because executives who believe in the long-term see business profit. The four types of social responsibilities a...
Many people may choose not to wear a seatbelt because they don’t understand how and why they work. To begin with seatbelts are the first line of defense one has against an injury in a crash.
The Constitution for the United States took many years of controversy to establish. The final Constitution for the United States set up a government based on the system of checks and balance. The Constitution consists of three branches, the Legislative branch, the Executive branch, and the Judicial branch. Powers given to each branch are equaled out by each other, helping to keep any one branch from taking over.
Could you imagine a world without a constitution? No rules. Laws. Consequences. The world would be in a much worse place than it is today. Over 200 years ago the founding fathers gathered in Pennsylvania, where the constitutional convention was held in order to amend the articles of confederation. As they intended to amend the plan, they realized that it would be impossible so they secretly began working on an entire new constitution. The United States Constitution. It established the forms of national government and defined the rights and liberties of the American people. The Unites States constitution has seven principles, those which are, Popular Sovereignty, Separation of Powers, Checks and Balances, limited Government, Republicanism, Federalism, and Individual Rights. Each principle has its own meaning and purpose as to why it was included in the constitution.
In researching this speech, I have found a source that states statistics that have made the show a total of 32 598 people have died in 2002 and almost 60% from them were not wearing the seatbelt.
In a New York Times Magazine article, Milton Friedman said, “the basic mission of a business is to provide goods and services at a profit and by doing so said business is making its maximum contribution to society and is therefore being socially responsible” (Friedman, 1970). Friedman’s belief is a core concept of the shareholder model of corporate governance. Clearly Company Q’s behavior indicates that it subscribe to Freidman’s principle. Their sole concern is increasing the wealth of their shareholders, and investors with no regard to the negative impact, their actions cause in the community.
Car accidents are the leading cause of death for people under the age of 35. Wearing a seat belt can prevent death in about half of these accidents. Did you know that every 15 seconds someone is injured in an automobile accident if they are not buckled up, or that every 13 minutes someone is killed in a crash. Failure to wear a seat belt contributes to more fatalities than any other single traffic safety related behavior. According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration seatbelts saved nearly 12,000 lives in the United States in the year 2000. The NHTSA estimates that more than 9,000 U.S. car accident fatalities in 2000 would have been avoided if the victims had been wearing seatbelts. Sixty three percent of the people killed in accidents were not wearing seat belts. The NHTSA a...
In time, my experience molded my psyche through a childhood occurrence that coincides with Erikson’s view of psychodynamic theory. His theory suggests that the groundwork of behavior is motivated by inner forces or conflicts beyond people’s awareness and control. Freud’s focus within the psychodynamic theory was the emphasis of the psychosexual development (pleasure focuses on a particular biological function and body part) which encompassed five stages throughout childhood. My experience that made me who I am today started during adolescence, and his stages ended at that age. Freud 's elements of the id, ego, and superego affected how I interpreted the scene. At the site of my dad losing consciousness made me want to run and hide on instinct,

When you are not able to control the vehicle or make rational decisions can happen you are much more likely to get into a car accident. Accidents the normally involve other people. Car accidents can be often fatal or life changing. These accidents can involve other people and not just you. One such story is about a couple who just recently got engaged to each other. On their wedding day they were driving down the highway and they we getting on the on ramp and a drunk driver was entering on the exit ramp. The two cars collided head on and seriously injured the woman. The mad was killed in the crash. The drunk driver left the scene. Another story was about a kid and his friends. They were driving they stopped at a stop sign and from behind them was a drunk driver speeding and the driver did not stop and rear-ended them causing the jeep to flip over and kill the kid. HIs friends were able to make it. The drunk driver went home and went to bed without even realising what he
The journey from that idea and the airbags that we have now has been very long. Today, airbags are a necessary in every car and are designed to act as an extra safety device aside of seat belts. But a lot of people are looking quite sceptical at the air bag safety, because there was a lot of accidents where the airbag didn’t react or it did react, but it didn’t help but killed the driver or the passenger. Since 1991 there was 238 counted just because of air
Causes of climate change include longtime exposure of solar irradiance, human activity, and the greenhouse effect. The greenhouse effect is when the sun’s rays shine through the ozone layer and certain gases in the atmosphere don’t allow heat to escape the atmosphere. These gases forced to stay in the atmosphere are “forcing” climate change on the earth. The gases included the greenhouse effect include methane, carbon dioxide, water vapor, and nitrous oxide. This acts as a thermal energy blanket for the earth warming it beyond its point of a stable endpoint. The most abundant greenhouse gas is water vapor. Water vapor increases as the Earth’s atmosphere warms. Carbon dioxide is released through natural processes respiration and volcano eruptions and through human activities. A hydrocarbon gas produced both through natural sources and human activities, including the decomposition of wastes in landfills, agriculture, and especially rice cultivation, as well as ruminant digestion and manure management associated with domestic livestock. On a molecule-for-molecule basis, methane is a far more active greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide, but also one which is much less abundant in the atmosphere. A powerful greenhouse gas produced by soil cultivation practices, especially the use of commercial and organic fertilizers, fossil fuel combustion, nitric acid production, and biomass
During Freud’s time of theology his main focus was humanity. He predominately spent his time studying and observing the functioning of humans and the forces and drives of why individuals respond to things the way they do. Part of his studies also dealt with relating individual’s forces and drives to early experiences had during the growing stages of life. The term Freud decided to use to summarize his entire concept of study was Psychodynamics. The fundamental concept, Psychodynamics, is an approach that underlies human’s behavior, feelings, and emotions and how they might relate to early experiences.
Ethical behavior among businesses can be enhanced when there are conferences between CEO’s of the organization and their employees talking about the standards of the organization. One way to find out if there is an understanding of ethical behavior is to ask employees if they understand the core values that make up the business. If they do not know them employees may unknowingly be practicing unethical behaviors that the company may not tolerate (2007, Nov 9).
