Ever since the attacks of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11th 2001, America has never been the same. After this horrific event America has made many numerous changes to make sure that this would never happen again like making changes to air travel security to border protection changes and many government and leadership changes. One of the first things America has tried to change since then is air travel and travel security. One change that caused many controversies was adding body scanning machines instead of using the old method which was a metal detector. These body scanners are similar to strip searches but they allow the passenger to keep their clothes on which takes away the discomfort like the old method of a strip search would cause. This method is also quicker and more accurate than an actual strip search. Even though these changes do consume more time and make people arrive to the airport earlier it is a' more effective way of security and it does get results. Before the events of 9/11 the US had been attacked before and we were aware of possible threats. However, these threats, specifically those of Al-Qaeda were not taken seriously by American foreign policy makers or regular Americans alike, so on September 11, 2001 Americans were truly shocked by the scale of devastation and loss of life that occurred. The effect these attacks had on America was incredible. In the years that followed Americans became fearful and discriminatory of religious groups; the government created the Department of Homeland Security and enacted stricter search and seizure laws, and America’s foreign policy became defined by unilateral decision making and preemptive war.
The Change in Airport Security from 9/11 The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2011 prompted the world to reevaluate and drastically modify airport and airline security. “Four targets had been chosen, all iconic American buildings that would send a clear message of the depth of their hatred for the United States. All four planes crashed, killing all on board—terrorists, crew members, and passengers, along with hundreds who were killed inside the structures, on the ground, and the men and women who ran into collapsing buildings in an effort to try and save others” (Smutz 1). As Jason Villemez said “the decade after the 9/11 attacks reshaped many facets of life in America” (Villemez 1). Before the attacks, people did not think that large scale hostility towards innocent people in our country was remotely possible.
This paper describes our nation and the worlds mindset about airline terrorism before 9/11 and airline terrorism today. This remains a very real and deadly subject even though we don’t have as many incidents occurring at this moment in time. Still the potential for countless lives being lost in an aircraft accident from the actions of a terrorist or terrorist organization is still very real and innocent families across this nation and abroad remain the targets. Additionally, it will show that the security measures in place at airports prior to 9/11 were far less adequate, than today, and personnel responsible for airport security at the gates and throughout were either poorly trained or not trained at all when it came to hijackers and terrorist. This paper will also identify the extensive security measures, rules and training that have been put into place, which helped to curtail acts of terrorism onboard airliners.
With such groundbreaking inventions as the Model T, and the first aircraft, much reform was brought upon the United States as a whole, at a national level. Throughout these two decades, much development took place in the United States, and much more was on its way.

The topic in which I chose to do a scrapbook on was “How the government affects the airline industry in Canada”. Specifically I chose articles that related to the aftermaths of the September 11th tragedy. This event affected airlines in an enormous manner. Many airlines were facing economical problems and in turned asked the government for assistance. As a result, Canada 3000, which was Canada’s second largest airline carrier filed for bankruptcy protection on October 11th.

September 11, 2001 was one of the scariest days for the United States of America. Many Americans felt unsafe in their own homes because this was the first ever terrorist attack on American soil. On this day many brave Americans stepped up to do their part on helping the wounded as much as they could. Many police officers and firefighters lost their lives going into the burning towers to try and save as many people as possible. Many nurses and doctors were also on site and working long hours in hope to save everyone who was able to make it out safely. Since that fateful day American’s still take a moment to remember that day that changed our country and took many American lives. That day might have been one of the scariest days in our history, but it has changed America to become safer. The government now has technology that is unbelievable. As long as the government has probable cause they can listen in to any ones phone calls, view their phone logs, text messages, and emails. They have also tightened security at all airports and also train stations and large cities. New York City has made the most changes since 9/11. They have a couple thousand undercover police officers, many that are bi-lingual, cameras around the whole city, security checkpoints, radiation detectors, and even a small military (Kramer). NYC has many military tactics set up to keep the city safe and its millions of inhibitors and many daily visitors. NYC is one of the most populated city, and now the most protected city in America.
On September 11, 2001, Osama Bin Ladin executed the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. The attack killed over 2,900 people, and since then America has changed in many ways. One example is the phobia people now have against people of Middle-Eastern decent or people that practice the Islamic religion. Since people think differently of these groups, they do not treat them with the respect they give to other people. They can be denied jobs, education, housing because of their religion and/or their Middle Eastern background. Another example on how America has changed since 9/11, is the airport security has grown largely. The new change can impact many travelers, as well it spends a lot of the American government’s money.
