The play “Ahrens’ and Flaherty’s Lucky Stiff” on this Sunday at 3 pm, had some of the art included, and some were similar to what we learned from the classes. Indeed, besides enjoying the entertainment of the play and event, the pleasure of art being involved in the play seems magnificent. Moreover, there was particular art included in the clothes of characters. In the play, poor people were given unfashionable colors of clothes which shows the value of art. From the play, the texture of the employee’s clothes shows how professional they are. Even if the person were not wealthy, such as a waitress, their colors of clothing maintains the professionalism in perspective from other viewers. Also, the creativeness of the spotlight role on the play
is vital. Importance of a person on each scene is sometimes given a shot of spotlight focuses on the specific character to show its perspective view for the audience. And the background lightning effects displayed only on the particular timing such as the time of the emotional scene. On the stage, colors of lightning effects were used such as blue, red or yellow, specifically first primary color, to establish its values on the scene. Time of singing, song, or imaginative flow of love, the lightning effects colors presented the set of values of the scene and played among the audience's view. Furthermore, the structure of the background house on the stage involved some of the element of art. The structure of the house was created focusing on the geometric shapes and lines. For example, the door was formed by the shape of the rectangle such that it implies a similar size and length of original doors of a house. By creating same dimensions and shape of the house, the actor from the play tries to show its value of realities among the scenes for the audience to put their feelings and attention onto the play.
Fundamental to our understanding of El Médico de su Honra, and of any other play is the notion that it was for performance and not intended for reading. Therefore, the action, text and spectacle all work together in producing an overall effect upon the audience. Calderón is described as a `craftsman' of drama and is famous for the dramatic devices which appeal to the various senses in order to convey the play's message with greater profundity. However, the seventeenth century playwright was limited by the facilities available to him. The rudimentary nature of their theatres affected the way in which a play was staged and therefore its interpretation. Public theatres were situated in courtyards, or `corrales', surrounded on three sides by private dwellings. A basic, but nevertheless important point is that theatres were generally exposed to the elements. By necessity, plays were performed during daylight hours and inevitably this would affect the presentation of the play. Atmosphere and mood were of paramount importance in a play, and this is of particular significance in El Médico de su Honra, where darkness is crucial both to the plot and the underlying themes.
Haas and Flower created an interesting point when I read “Rhetorical Reading Strategies and the Construction of Meaning “. In the reading, Haas and Flower, provided multiple propositions to apply, however a key one certainly caught my eye. Haas and Flower proposed various arguments, yet their main idea implied that there needs to be an increase in rhetorical reading. I came to the conclusion that increasing rhetorical reading was their main point due to a statement in the text. “We would like to help extend this constructive, rhetorical view of reading, which we share with others in the field…” [Haas and Flower, 167] the following statement blandly states their intention to spread an important strategy, reading rhetorically, among community.
From the time you enter the Falk Theatre, until the curtain rises and falls on the production of Picasso at the Lapin Agile, you are in for a treat. The play is an original work by Steve Martin with a running time of 90minutes, which feels more like 30minutes. Aside from the uncomfortable seating, this production is nothing short of wonderful. The Theatre has been transformed from a long movie Theater atmosphere to a quaint surrounding by means of risers that are placed directly on the stage. The new seating divides the old Theater in half and allows for the actors and the audience to share the same space. Not only this atmosphere that makes it wonderful but also the performances, the direction, the design and the script.
Shakespeare’s Much Ado about Nothing is, on the surface, a typical romantic comedy with a love-plot that ends in reconciliation and marriage. This surface level conformity to the conventions of the genre, however, conceals a deeper difference that sets Much Ado apart. Unlike Shakespeare’s other romantic comedies, Much Ado about Nothing does not mask class divisions by incorporating them into an idealized community. Instead of concealing or obscuring the problem of social status, the play brings it up explicitly through a minor but important character, Margaret, Hero’s “waiting gentlewoman.” Shakespeare suggests that Margaret is an embodiment of the realistic nature of social class. Despite her ambition, she is unable to move up in hierarchy due to her identity as a maid. Her status, foiling Hero’s rich, protected upbringing, reveals that characters in the play, as well as global citizens, are ultimately oppressed by social relations and social norms despite any ambition to get out.
In Travesties, Tom Stoppard creates an intricate statement about art through a travesty of Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. The nature and role of art and the artist is debated throughout the play by the principal characters: modernist James Joyce, Dadaist Tristan Tzara, and political revolutionary Vladimir Lenin. Through these three characters and their speech, especially the opposing views of Joyce and Tzara, Stoppard provides a comprehensive statement about what art is.

The stage is washed with yellow lighting and most cast members dress to set the “urine” tone wear various articles of yellow clothing. The attitude was very much “us against them”, with the poorer, dirty townsmen having to pay for toilets while the wealthy need not worry.
In “The Old Acrobat,” the flanuer is lured by the naturalistic and crude appearances of the street performers caused by society’s need for abstract stimulation. A well-written text is one that explores and analyses enduring values pertinent to the foundation of humanity. These texts reveal what it means to be human and how it influences one’s way of life. This is conspicuous in William Shakespeare’s tragic play, ‘Othello’ and Jocelyn Moorehouse’ film, ‘The Dressmaker’. Both texts remain significant because of their relationship with timeless values. Fabricating the responder’s awareness to the complex nature of social values, distinctly those pertaining appearance versus reality and gender. Technically, an outstanding aspect of this production were the meticulously detailed masks used by the ensemble during various scenes throughout the show. All throughout the poem, Pope illustrates the utter obsession with self-fashioning through the main character Belinda, a girl of extraordinary beauty but little substance. This use of grandiose, quasi-religious language to describe a young girl applying makeup sets up the value of beauty in this society and mocks it simultaneously by over-emphasizing and thus, exposing its ridiculousness. Furthermore, both the Nymphs and Belinda seem to be treating this morning ritual as “sacred Rites of Pride” (Pope I, 128) which not only further emphasizes the importance of these pampering activities, but also illustrates that in this particular society a woman’s sole source of pride seems to come from her outer beauty. Moreover, another example of the incredibly important role that physical appearance has in this society is the high regard for hair, often described as “sacred Hair” (Pope III, 153)— both the diction around “hair” and the capitalization of the word itself conveys its distorted importance for Belinda and those around her. Once Pope, clearly sets this society’s values he powerfully subverts it and reveals how truly shallow, vapid and lacking of intellect these characters are. In Canto
