CHAPTER 1 INTRODUCTION Agrivet and animal clinic is a combination of agriculture and veterinary industry. Agriculture can be described as the art and science of growing and harvesting of crops and raising of animals for food, other human needs or financial gain. It defines agriculture as an art and a science and therefore contains particular disciplines. It has two major parts which are crop and livestock production. The main function is for the production of food, other needs of individuals like, medicines, clothing, tools, artistic display and housing or used for financial. While the Veterinary medicine is concerned with the diagnosis, prevention, treatment of illness, disorder and damages of animals. The capacity of veterinary medicine …show more content…
For pets like dogs and cats, they offer vaccines, dog food and pet accessories. In terms of their services, Aby’s offers pet grooming from small breed to large breed as well as to cats. They normally do vaccination for dogs and cats, treatment of wounds and gastration and surgeries like caesarean. Confinement is one of the services they offer, especially when there is an outbreak of diseases, they accept dogs and cats to confine and cure just what hospitals do. Aby’s also accept boarding whenever pet owners will go somewhere or do some important matters for certain number of days, they will be the one to take care of the pets. Aby’s offers pickup and delivery for grooming to those owners who can no longer bring their pets in the clinic. Customers will just make an appointment then people in Aby’s will be the one to fetch and bring it back after. In two months time or shorter, they will be having a pet mobile grooming, where the people in Aby’s will be the one to go to their clients. Customers will have a minimum added fee for the transportation. This is to save the time and effort of the clients. Also they will personally see how their pets are groomed. This is also for the large breeds where the owners are having a hard time bringing their pets to the clinic. As well as to those clients who live in subdivisions who
Factory farming began in the 1920s soon after the discovery of vitamins A and D. Shirley Leung said, when these vitamins are added to feed, animals no longer require exercise and sunlight for growth (B2). This allowed large numbers of animals to be raised indoors year-round. The greatest problem that was faced in raising these animals indoors was the spread of disease, which was fought against in the 1940s with the development of antibiotics. Farmers found they could increase productivity and reduce the operating costs by using machines and assembly-line techniques. Unfortunately, this trend of mass production has resulted in incredible pain and suffering for the animals. Animals today raised on factory farms have had their genes manipulated and pumped full of antibiotics, hormones, and other chemicals to encourage high productivity. In the fast food industry, animals are not considered animals at all; “they are food producing machines” (BBC). They are confined to small cages with metal bars, ammonia-filled air and artificial lighting or no lighting at all. They are subjected to horrible mutilations: beak searing, tail docking, ear cutting and castration. The worst thing is that ...
“It depends on where people work usually, but the workers come in and check the pets that are in hospital that need additional care. Then in some way, workers have checklists for each hospitalized pet, so if they need medications, bandage changes, etc, workers can then keep track easier. Then workers go on to do medication for any animals that are boarding with the clinic in kennels. After that they check in pets that are coming for surgery or for a drop off exam/treatment.... ... middle of paper ...
For this project, I decided to take on the career of a veterinarian. As a veterinarian, I would have to examine animals to diagnose their health problems, treat and dress wounds, perform surgery on animals, test for and vaccinate against diseases, operate medical equipment(x-ray machines, etc.), advise animal owners about general care, medical conditions, and treatments, prescribe medication, and euthanize animals. To get a job in this profession, you have to have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. You also have to have to take many science classes including biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, zoology, microbiology, and animal science. You would have to take about four years of college which adds up to about $100,000 dollars in student
Many people have lost their pets and close family members because there is no way to get the help or medical attention that the animal so desperately needed. Every day in the United States, veterinarians are working hard to save animal’s lives. People will always continue to want and to breed pets. Therefore, to help and cure all these pets, a steady stream of veterinarians will be needed for many years to come. Over the years, the requirements and processes to becoming a veterinarian have changed. To become a successful veterinarian one must complete all necessary education and on the job training, be friendly and love animals, and have a burning passion to help both the pet and the pet owner.
America’s habitual complacency coexists with its lack of inquisitiveness. People used to know where their food came from because they asked. They knew the country, state, and most likely the farm as well. Currently, society is so far removed from the entire food process that their knowledge of its origin is limited to the grocery store it came from. This disconnection not only creates a lack of appreciation for the source, but a lack of interest in conditions, treatment, and final product too. People’s common “ignorance is bliss” attitude has led to animals’ torturous inhumane treatment, slaughter, and conditions. They are also pumped full of a plethora of preemptive drugs intended to sustain their lives without a physician’s attention.
Employment for veterinarians is expected to increase by twelve percent by 2022 (“Veterinarians: Career”). As they first start off at a hospital or clinic they make on average forty thousand to sixty thousand depending on what size preference (small or large) animals they work with (“How Much”). Veterinarian 's salary is that high because of their duties; they are to examine the animals’, diagnose and treat the animals, dress wounds, perform surgery, test and vaccinate the animals, operate the machinery needed, give advice to owners, write prescriptions; fill them, and do euthanizations. Working with animals is not the only part of their duties they have to continue to work on being compassionate, their decision-making skills, interpersonal skills, management skills, manual dexterity, and their problem-solving skills. While the veterinarians are working they are trying to improve on the public health by diagnosing, treating, researching on illnesses for all types of animals (“Veterinarians: Career”). As veterinarians give vaccinations and do regular check-ups they prevent some of the complications the animal can acquire. Some vets on their down time perform task like making new medicine by doing scientific research (“Fact Monster”). These jobs that veterinarians do is not all with animals it is also with people
When I was growing up and always playing with animals, I realized what I might want to do with my life. Since animals are, for the most part, vulnerable and helpless, they need someone to take care of them. For animals in need to survive and carry on, there must be a caring person willing to take time out of their day to care for these animals. This person is responsible for providing care such as feeding, cleaning, giving water and administering medication to animals in veterinary offices, zoos, laboratories or animal hospitals. This person is called a veterinary assistant (Writer).
The history of being a veterinarian has been around since human beings have interacted with animals. For a long time, ever since man tamed animals, there is a need to monitor their health. Just as human, they suffer the same diseases: a cold, sore throat, stomach ulcer, and urolithiasis. Veterinary Medicin...
It is so easy to become complacent in our sheltered world and to turn the other cheek to the violence and misery that our every life decision can perpetrate, and that the majority of the country (mostly unknowingly) buys into. The fact is that if the horrors of the meat industry were common knowledge, the business would decrease, and drastically at that. So, to keep the knowledge from becoming widespread, meat and animal factory farms are content to work quietly and discreetly in the sparsely-populated back corners of the country where no one can see what is being done without making an active effort. The problem for them is, many people have been making an active effort- as the animal cruelty cause became more mainstream, the US saw a huge increase in the investigative journalism aimed at uncovering the flaws of factory farming. These findings have been explosive, and have led to animal rights legislation , (although sadly, this legislation does not protect all animals). This boom in investigation led most factory farms to close down plants to the outside world, no longer allowing tours or photography and dramatically increasing the security during the hiring process in an attempt to eliminate undercover journalists. Representatives of the factory farm industry claim that they they work out in the middle of nowhere and have increased security for the welfare of the animals; however, this is clearly not the case. They are covering up the overcrowding, the starvation, and the misery that the world is all too happy to ignore, as long as ignoring it means that they can continue on with their lifestyle. The truth is that there is no such thing as a “happy” factory farm animal- even the supposedly “ethically treated” animals, the free ...
Ever since animals have been domesticated, they have been very instrumental in providing humans with a plethora of benefits in multiple areas such as agriculture, medicine, and industry (Transgenic Animals). Today, animals and their products are used for almost everything from food to clothing to products we use on an everyday basis. Some argue that animals should not be used as much as they are being utilized; however the use of domesticated animals propelled humans from a nomadic species to a more civilized people. The domestication of animals was a keynote of the beginning of agriculture as a whole, which lead to industrialization and progression as human beings. Domesticated animals play a foremost role in our society today as well as in the future.
Veterinarians can be employed by government agencies and the food indudtry to cater to meat and milk producers to ensure that the herd is healthy and that the product is suitable for human consumption. These veterinarians deal with many animals like ovine (sheep), poultry, porcine (swine) and bovine
Growing up in rural Texas, you have to learn to care for the things that are important to you. There really is not much to entertain yourself with so many adolescents become vulnerable to trouble. Luckily for me, I grew up with the responsibilities that came with growing up on a farm. I had things to care for on a daily basis and for the longest time, the things I cared for most were animals. I exhibited livestock in my youth and this is where I spent the majority of my time. I would come home from football or basketball practice and go straight up to the barn to tend to my animals. Along with feeding and cleaning, I would often administer vaccinations and antibiotics when needed. Because of my interest in medicine and science coupled with my love for animals some could say that I was destined to become veterinarian. The major I chose, animal science, even supported that notion. However, it was not until the summer after my freshman year of undergraduate where I realized it was human medicine that my heart was yearning for.
...l production, and to expand animal agriculture research. The evidence of antibiotic resistance from sub-therapeutic antibiotics supports the need to eliminate this practice. In spite of farmers and pharmaceutical companies losing money, it is in the best interest of society to ban the practice of giving animals sub-therapeutic levels of antibiotics in their feed. Increasing the research on the effects on the environment caused by the large animal feed lots is a large epidemiologic undertaking that should be seen through. In an effort to protect antibiotics and reduce antibiotic resistance, the overall use of antibiotics should be limited to only medically significant situations, drugs should be used more selectively, better sanitation practices should be used throughout the production process, and the enforcement of bans and limitations must be followed through.
To understand why is agriculture important in the world of today, then first of all we must know what agriculture is? Agriculture is the basic material production of society, the use of land for agriculture and livestock, mining plants and animals as raw materials and labor to produce mainly food and some raw materials for industry. Agriculture is a major industry, covering many disciplines: planting, breeding and processing of agricultural products; in the broadest sense, also including forestry and fisheries. Agriculture is an important economic sector in the economy of many countries, especially in the past century , when the industry has not yet developed. Since the dawn of history, agriculture has been one of the importance means of producing
What makes a perfect Utopain society crumble into a dystopian society? This story highlights the plight of a group of animals and their endeavor to great such a place. It begins on a farm called Manor Farm and a pig with a dream, known as Old Major. He has a need to tell the animals to hear about a dream he had, where there is a world where all animals live free from the shackles of Man. He blames man for all of the animals problems and urges the animals to stage a rebellion and strive for a utopian society, free of Man. He puts in place Rules( 7 Commandements) the animals must follow, so that they are never mistaken for Man and most importantly he stresses that one rule was the most important, “that all animals are equal”.
