ntroduction: the creator/s belong to adverting department of “Gillette” which is a company that manufactures razors, razors blades, shaving gel and foam, skin care products and deodorants only for males. The image was released in 2013 by the company with the start of the publicity complain for the movie “Man of Steel”. The overall ideal of the image is to persuade their potential male customers to buy the product of razors and razor blade utilizing a famous fictional character “superman” indicating the durability and toughness of their product. The image also gives the impression that those men who use their products possess the exceptional skills and abilities.
Format: The image is colored mostly in dark blue and silver which is also the color of the company’s logo and their theme. The sliver color enhances the theme of the movie “Man of Steel” and Gillette because sliver is the color of steel and razor blade. The superhero appears in his traditional costume of red and blue with some necessary modification to give it a more modern look.

I have examined and analyzed the COVERGIRL™ NatureLuxe advertisement that uses common feminine stereotypes. In this advertisement, COVERGIRL™, which runs in Seventeen magazines, targets women through their choices of colors, fonts, and images used. Certain stereotypes are used; such as, those who are more feminine tend to prefer lighter, happier colors, such as pink. Also, the use of a celebrity, who many young women look to as an icon, assists in the advertisement of the COVERGIRL™ product. COVERGIRL™, more than likely, is able to successfully market their lip-gloss product in the United States by using common gender stereotypes to show femininity and how those, mainly women, should be presented in today’s society.
In today’s society, stress is an inevitable part of life that places both physical and psychological demands upon one’s body (Cammarata, 2007). In Kilbourne 's essay, she says that “Men conquer and women ensnare, always with the essential aid of a product.” 491 Which basically means that the men conquer the women and the women are not dominant and they fall into the men 's trap which relates to the product they are advertising. From my insight about these advertisements is that I find it just so that these advertising companies can get the public 's attention but I have to admit it is very sexist how the men are just taking advantage of the woman just because they are more dominant than she is and the woman being weak and helpless. Kilbourne’s perspective is that no women should be treated like this and instead they should be treated fairly as the men are. Like not being abused and treated with respect. This picture depicts men are generally greater than a woman and they get what they want because they are greater than they are. This advertisement is not the only one that expresses men over women, but many advertisements are just the same and Kilbourne is upset that women are treated
The ad campaign is funny to the point that the commercial is pretty much making fun of itself. The sex appeal is apparent as the bare-chested man sells the product of a man, man. The product name and logo are repeated and shown throughout the entire ad, making repetition a strong selling point. This advertisement is effective because it appeals to a wide audience using humor, sexual appeal, and repetition to sell the product. Women like attractive men, but they also like men who are adventurous, handy, charismatic, and intriguing.
This persuades women to buy the Old Spice body wash for their man, so that the body wash will make their men more masculine and dominate man, like the “perfect man” example, Mustafa. While the commercial not only reaches out to the “ladies”, but it certainly appeals to men’s emotions also. The Old Spice ad targets the men by signifying a perfect image of what an “ultimate man” ought to be like by using the attractive, physically fit, Isiah Mustafa in their commercial. This strategy is used to make all of the men who feel like they are not up to par feel as if they must do something to change their physical appearance. In a modern society that is filled with gender stereotypes and specific ideas of manliness, men impulsively desire to smell, look, and be just like Isaiah Mustafa, who is a man that exemplifies almost all of the necessary masculine traits that society places on men. This Old Spice commercial targets men emotionally by inferring that they as of now, they are not exactly the man their female spouse is expecting them to be, but if the men start using Old Spice, they will become more desirable to the “ladies”. In 1964, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) agreed that advertisers had a responsibility to warn the public of the health hazards of cigarette smoking. In 1969, after the surgeon general of the United States released an official report linking cigarette smoking to low birth weight, Congress signed the Cigarette Smoking Act. Thus, it reinforces gender stereotypes. As Buying Into Sexy points out sex sells, and people tend to be heavily exposed to adds as well as “music videos that feature plenty of sexual innuendo”. In this advertising, Axe uses the power of persuasion, such as attractive women, style, and images which are the key ideas to the product and fragrance to conjure the consumers’ behavior of the perceived images of the product. Axe was originally created in France in 1983 by a company named Unilever and sold in the United States in 2002, and is now the leader of men’s grooming markets. The brand is focused toward gender and the age of the customer. Its market strategy is aimed at males from their teens to their twenties appealing to a new life style product that would increase their luck with the ladies. Axe deodorant ads gives you the apparent need to smell and feel good, but the means of feeling good is mainly through increased sex appeal. This ad assumes that all males buy deodorant solely for the purpose of getting women, and if you do certain things, like buy this product, then all women will be all over you.
