limited resources. Experiencing poverty can have many negative effects on health and quality of life, as it influences many aspects of their life. Many children are either born into poverty, transition into poverty as their parents do, or some go on to experience poverty even as adults (Raphael, 2011, pg.123). Adult poverty reflects a life course of material and social deprivation throughout their childhood, and often lead to cognitive, educational, social and health problems that increase the likelihood of them living in poverty (Raphael, 2011, pg.123). Chapter 6 shows how people living in poverty often experience social and material deprivation, stigma, stress, and degradation which leads to the deterioration of their health and quality of life. Experiencing mental illnesses is related to being in poverty as their basic needs are not met and further exclusion from society leaves them to deal with everything alone. Some of the factors that lead to experiencing mental illnesses include problems with family and friends, access to leisure activities, stigma, and their perceived poor appearance (Raphael, 2011, pg.169). The poor living conditions of poor people strains their relationship with friends and family, often being left alone. Worrying about poverty and not having time and access to leisure activities leaves them mentally and physically exhausted. Many participants in project 7 showed strong links between their lives and poor health. Families often starve in order to leave food for their children, and reported their children experiencing stomach pains, due to stress. Participants find it hard to live a stable life and find the stress associated with poverty affects their families, as parents blow up due to frustration, and cry at night for their helpless situation (Raphael, 2011,
