On February 28, 1999 Adnan Syed was arrested for the murder of Hae Min Lee. Adnan is a senior at Woodlawn High School in Baltimore, Maryland. Everyone describes him as a very friendly person. No one can see Adnan committing the murder. He was very athletic and smart while in high school. Adnan is Muslim, so dating in high school was against his religion. However, he loved Hae and dated her anyways. Hae was also an eighteen year old senior at Woodlawn High School. She was Korean. She was a very responsible girl who picked up her younger cousin after school everyday. The police and her family knew something was wrong when she did not pick up her little cousin. She played field hockey and was really smart. Hae disappeared on January 13, 1999. Then, Hae’s corpse was found in Leakin Park on February 9, 1999 by a maintenance man who
Adnan said that after school he went to the Woodlawn Public Library. He talked to a female classmate named Asia. She became his alibi. However, the state ignored her statement of seeing Adnan in the library, so Adnan’s alibi could not show herself. Adnan having Asia as an alibi proves he was at the library that day. This could be proof that Adnan did not kill Hae, but nobody can really know. Since someone put Adnan at the library at the time of Hae’s disappearance, Adnan could not have killed Hae. Which means all of the destinations that Jay and Adnan went to, Best Buy and Patapsco State Park, could not have happened. Jay said that Adnan had called his, Adnan’s, phone from a payphone at Best Buy. However, that is impossible because there never was a payphone on the Best Buy property at that time. Records show that there was never any calls from that area at the time Jay said Adnan called. This does not add up with Jay’s story because without that call Jay would not have known to pick Adnan up. The state painted a bad image of Adnan during the
This reason makes sense because Asia and even a friend of hers claim that they saw and even spoke to Adnan that day and at that time Hae was murdered. This part of the story is when Asia found out Adna was arrested so she wrote him a letter explaining what she remembered about seeing him that day and time. This is from the letter “Im not sure if you remember talking to me in the library january 13’th,but I remember”. This means Adnan is innocent because he was not murdering Hae at the time he was at the library. Therefore Adnan is innocent because Asia’s letters prove that he was at the library at the time Hae was

In Episode 8 of Sarah Koenig’s podcast, Serial, Koenig claims that Jay isn’t a reliable enough source of information for the state to find Adnan guilty of the murder. She argues that there are too many inconsistencies in the story that he has told police over and over, and that there are too many problems in the story that the police use against Adnan.
Can you imagine being convicted of first degree murder at only 17 years of age? Adnan Syed couldn't believe it either. In fact he was mortified when they charged him of brutally suffocating, his ex-girlfriend Hea Min Lee, to death. Adnan Syed was a pawn that the Baltimore detectives played with, a mere dupe to cast off as the true killer. Syed is like many Americans, he was never granted a fair trial. There is some actors that make Syed guilty, but perhaps it was just pure coincidence that got Adan wrapped up in this whole mess. One simply can't overlook the major factors that make him innocent enough to grant him a second trial. Adan has spent half of his life in prison, due to a wrongful conviction that happened many
In 1608 the case of Captain George Kendall became the first recorder Capital Punishment case in the colonies. Capital punishment has been a very controversial topic since the beginning of the 13 colonies. In the first couple of years that Capital Punishment was first used, the subject would be hung from a tree in a public viewing, but as laws changed it became a more private practice. Many people have issues with Capital punishment, while some people believe it is just. Lawyers have fought for many years for what they believe to be the injustice and immoral practice of killing a human being,

When it come to the wrongdoing of serial murders the first thing people think of is that the offender is psychotic, white, abused as a child and experimented with animals. However that is not true, serial killers have different alternatives, motives and desires. Some are sexual sadist, act in necrophilia and are mission base serial killers. However people do not know that African-Americans consist of the largest racial minority group among serial killers, representing approximately 20 percent of the total amount of serial killers in America. (Bonn) Most believe that serial killers are white and other races are not likely to partake in that type of crimes. However two notorious well known black serial killers are Lemuel Smith & John Floyd
Would you lie to them if you actually did it? This is a story of a teenager who was in a similar situation. His name is Adnan Syed. He was convicted of killing Hae Min Lee, his ex-girlfriend, in Maryland in 1999. 15 years later Sarah Koenig started a podcast, Serial.
As it was found out later, the arrest was the result of the false report provided by the man who claimed that Lawrence possessed weapons at his home. The report was filed by the neighbor Roger David Nance (41 years old) and he has already been accused before for the similar complaints. The above cause to enter the house, however, was not considered to be the issue in the case hearing and Nance admitted that he provided false report.
September 11, 2001 was one of the most devastating and horrific events in the United States history. Americans feeling of a secure nation had been broken. Over 3,000 people and more than 400 police officers and firefighters were killed during the attacks on The World Trade Center and the Pentagon; in New York City and Washington, D.C. Today the term terrorism is known as the unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives (Birzer, Roberson). This term was clearly not defined for the United States for we had partial knowledge and experience with terrorist attacks; until the day September 11, 2001. At that time, President George W. Bush, stated over a televised address from the Oval Office, “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.” President Bush stood by this statement for the United States was about to retaliate and change the face of the criminal justice system for terrorism.
Gary Leon Ridgway may not be a household name, but the infamous Green River Killer is one of the most accomplished serial murderers in U.S. history. In 2003, Ridgway confessed 48 accounts of aggravated first degree murder (more confirmed murders than any other American serial killer) during a two-and-a-half-year period in the early 1980s near Seattle, although it is believed he slaughtered even more. The majority of his victims were runaway teenage girls and hookers whom he picked up on the interstate and strangled to death. But Ridgway was spared the death penalty as part of a plea bargain three years ago, in exchange for his assistance in leading investigators to his victim's remains and revealing other information to help "bring closure" to the grieving families ("Green River Killer Avoids Death in Plea Deal").
There are many serial killers who are known for their heinous crimes and killings of their victims. Serial killers however vary from one another leaving it hard to cluster them all together besides the fact that they murder multiple victims. With that being said, there is one serial killer who sticks out as devious and whose crime may not be as “famous” as he wished. This serial killer is known as the Green River Killer.
Serial killers differ from other types of murderers. The number of serial killers in the U.S. is staggering. Differences are clear between serial killing and conventional murders. Serial killing can be classified as either motive based or organizational and social based. The Holmes Typology helps to understand the motivations behind serial killing. Serial killers may be even motivated by fame as part of their motivation for killing. John Wayne Gacy could be seen as evil due to his repeated violent acts. Jeffrey Dahmer was also evil by committing his acts of serial murders. Both Gacy and Dahmer had police records prior to their arrests for serial murders. Serial killers are poor candidates for rehabilitation. Their acts are evil.
Ethics has numerous meaning to it. It is not something that one can place a single definition on. Not only is it near impossible to have a definition for this word. It is also hard for any two people have the same specific definition for this word. Ethics ultimately means someone’s moral and logical thought process on what is morally right and wrong. Though, many people might feel that ethics can have a specific definition, ultimately this term is a word that is going to be defined on an individual bases.
