Solutions Solutions are easily the most important part of creating a safer work environment. Identifying issues found in the workplace and the injuries that may arise is important in itself, but eliminating these risks must be what comes from this identification. Solutions may come in a variety of different forms and strengths (Michael, 2001). Types of solutions may be broken down into three layers of protection in strength and the operation of these solutions. The first form and strongest is engineering controls be put into place (Michael, 2001). The second form and the median form are administrative controls (Michael, 2001). The final and last resort form of solution that can be used is personal protective equipment (Michael, 2001). Engineering …show more content…
Administrative controls involve in using training and writing safety policies that must be followed by all workers that are presented to the risk (Michael, 2001). Using training will help reduce the amount of injuries that occur as if people are aware of the risk of an activity; they will take the proper precautions to avoid these risks (Michael, 2001). Since these controls do not eliminate the risk and focus on prevention, they are weaker solutions than engineering controls. An example of an administrative control being used is if a worker must repeatedly place clips onto an object is trained on the proper wrist and hand postures that should be used when placing on the …show more content…
Taking advantage of the numerous technologies and ergonomic equations that have been developed will assist in identifying potential risks that are involve in the workplace. Being able to take the data received from multiple resources and combining them in order to gain a stronger view of all the risks that hand is faced with is important to be understood as not every device takes into account all factors that may present danger to the hand. Once the potential risks have been identified the next step and most important part in creating a safe work environment is creating solutions to these problems. Engineering controls should be the first possible solution looked at. These types of solutions completely eliminate the risk that the hand is facing, so when the risk is eliminated the hand and task that must be completed is now safer. The next solution used should be administrative controls. Education to the workers and written rules on how to protect workers is essential as the worker may not know the risks they face using poor postures. Finally personal protective equipment should be implemented when the risk cannot be eliminated. These will reduce the risks that a worker faces to assist in creating a safer

1.4 – State why and when health and safety control equipment, identified by the principles of protection, should be used relating to types, purpose and limitations of each type, the work situation, occupational use and the general work environment, in relation to:
When it comes to safety most people think they are safe, and they have a true understanding on how to work safe. Human nature prevents us from harming ourselves. Our instincts help protect us from harm. Yet everyday there are injuries and deaths across the world due to being unsafe. What causes people to work unsafe is one of the main challenges that face all Safety Managers across the world.
Section 8 of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (2005) puts the onus on the employer to ensure systems of work that are planned, organised, performed, maintained and revised as appropriate so as to be, so far as is reasonably practicable, safe and without risk to health. Section 19 of the Act requires the employer to conduct a risk assessment of work activities and Schedule 3 of the Act provides the general principles of prevention to ensure the safety of employees in the workplace.
Work practice controls: controls reduce the likelihood of exposure by modifying procedures and reducing the risk for exposure.
Impart the significance of effective consultation mechanisms to the workers in managing the health and safety issues in the workplace. To raise the awareness of hazards in the workplace and to promote cooperate in problem solving and reduce the workplace health and safety risks.
The end result is that everyone wants to come to work in an environment that is stress free and safe. A business needs to make a concrete commitment to the health and security of its employees. Let’s not wait until it’s too late.

At the site, the site manager puts at the disposal of the workers the work equipment necessary that is appropriate for the work to be carried out or suitably adapted for the purpose, with the view to preserving the health and the safety of the workers. In the event of the non-use of the personal protective equipment by the workers, the employer is criminally liable and it is up to the employer in the context of the company rules, on account of it authority, to enforce the wearing of the personal protective equipment specified in the rules and
Introduction Canadian health and safety legislation requires companies and organizations to make a commitment towards occupational health and safety. Maintaining a safe workplace environment has numerous benefits. A safe work environment can boost employee morale, increase productivity, and improve job satisfaction. For companies and organizations, these benefits can lead to less turnover and increased employee retention. They can also reduce absenteeism while improving the culture and image of a company or organization.
