Adam complains about parking at least three times a day. He is late to economics class every Tuesday and Thursday, and Professor Willis simply cannot take it anymore. Professor Willis told Adam that he needs to wake up earlier in order to get a spot on campus, but he believes that sleep is vital not only to himself, but to all college students. Sleep should not be compensated for the time it takes to find a parking spot. Adelphi should instead listen to the proposal in this essay, which deals with the plan of action to allow for more parking spots on campus. As of right now students are told to, “Arrive early for your classes” (Adelphi University, 2017, para. 3). Students are told to arrive early, because they never know what the parking will be like. If Adelphi wants to keep its enrollment up, it is vital that there is enough parking or students will start to get fed up with the limited parking on campus. Adelphi even suggests to “Consider car-pooling,” or “Consider taking public transportation” (Adelphi University, 2017, para 3). The price students pay in tuition for Adelphi, should at least allow for most students to be able to park on campus. The fact that public safety and transportation suggests to car-pool or take public transportation is absurd and students should have the right to park on campus. Not being able to park on campus creates an unsafe environment for students. Safety is always of the utmost concern in any academic setting, including here at Adelphi. Adelphi is a safe and secure campus; public safety does an outstanding job keeping the campus safe, but safety of the parking lots compared to the other safety aspects of the university lack attention and action. If action is not taken people will not stop arguing and fighting over spots; students and faculty will wait in line for a long time just for people to pull out of a spot. Students and faculty will even go the extra step to follow someone on the way back to their car to get a spot. This creates a dangerous and unsafe environment in the parking lots. Horns are constantly sounding because of the hectic atmosphere, and people are constantly on edge. There has even been multiple fender bender accidents in the parking lot. Students and faculty can totally avoid the accidents and problems they run into by taking the panther shuttle to ensure they are brought to their location
