This continuous race for beauty and eternal youth never ends , and with the medical’s inventions and innovations everything is possible today . Thanks to cosmetic plastic surgery , you can become the person you ever wanted to be . If you are bothered by a too big chest, a small chest , or a drooping one , you can resort to a breast surgery operation . Whether hunchback , too long or too wide a nose operation changes the shape or size of the nose to give it a smooth appearance with the face. We recently witnessed an unprecedented fascination of using plastic surgery as a mean to meet the criteria of beauty that are socialized and increasingly spreading over all the surrounding walls, rooms , streets … Therefore , what are the causes of plastic surgery addiction in the United States of America ? I will start by defining addiction to plastic surgery , then I will deal with the body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), to conclude with the influence of the society that is one of the main reason of this addiction . Stedman’s Medical Dictionary defines addiction as “ habitual psychological and physiological dependence on a substance or practice that is beyond voluntary control ” (241). Peers have this way no control over their addiction and are completely manipulated by it . According to , the “Medicalization of plastic surgery,” the question that the psychologist are asking is the following : why did this person start seeing and looking herself at the mirror negatively , and why does she want to change herself ( Pitts-Taylor, Victoria 101) . Besides the majority of people suffering from BDD believe that they have a deformity that requires surgical intervention ” (Newell 318) . Concerned about an imaginary physical defect, people with body dysmorphic disorder have absolutely no awareness that their disorder is a psychiatric . It is a pessimistic image that we have of our body. In other words, the BBD is when you look yourself in the mirror , and see a face scarred by acne when in reality you have a baby skin
