Across The Universe is a story that takes you into the lives of the true flower children during the 1960s. Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), Jude (Jim Sturgess), and Max (Joe Anderson), are on a journey to achieve peace, love, and happiness. Lucy and Max are siblings whose family is very wealthy. Lucy loses her first true love to the War in Vietnam and begins to spiral into depression. Her brother, Max, drops out of college against his family’s wish, and he and Lucy run away to New York City to escape their high class life. There, they meet Jude, a man from Liverpool who hopped the United States’ border to experience foreign life. The three of them bounce around the city, enjoying all it has to offer, occasionally under the influence of drugs. Lucy, Jude, and Max join a band of hippies protesting the war and march and chant in large protest lines. The movie depicts scenes of the police punching and abusing peaceful protesters, while comparing it to scenes of men ruthlessly shooting innocent civilians in the Vietnam War. Throughout the movie, Lucy and Jude begin to fall in love, which causes some of the main difficulties.
Across The Universe is generally categorized as a musical because of the strong musical influence maintained throughout the movie. A strong example of a traditional musical is The Sound of Music. The 1965 classic has a simple plot line with songs framing each scene. The main purpose of the songs is simply to help move the plot along. Maria (Julie Andrews) sings “I Have Confidence” as she is preparing for her new job as a nanny after being in a nunnery most of her adult life. “I Have Confidence” along with the many other beautiful songs in the soundtrack are originally made to fit the plotline of the musica...

Across The Universe is not your typical musical. It involves controversial issues of sexuality, drug use, and violence. Despite the fact it is so modern, it is a cleverly made musical. The plot line is unique and unpredictable and the vocals would have made The Beatles proud. This movie makes viewers want to travel back and relive the rebellious sixties. It is a love story wrapped in the journey for peace, love, and happiness. If you can get past the radical plot this movie has something for everyone, romance, comedy, and even a little bit of action. I would recommend this movie to anyone who is a Beatles fan or simply wants to relive the sixties for two glorious hours.
The seventies style truck made this movie even more inspiring. Listening to the sixties and seventies music throughout the movie was actually fun. This movie will make you smile, feel like crying and excited all in one setting. It was like you were right there and truly touched you every minute all the way up to end of the movie. Watching a movie that can reach out and grab a hold of you even years after production in October 2003 is truly an amazing production. Looking at this movie with a different way of thinking actually made me realize how much I didn’t notice the first few times I watched it.
On the TV show, The Movie Show, David Stratton described the film as a “bold and timely film about the stolen generations.” The film is so highly rated for its amazing plot, the well-used mise en scene and the film techniques including the camera work and sound.
The movie, Across the Universe, is an amazing movie that I’d probably show to a group of people. The film is filled with fantasy, romance, and drama. Across The Universe is a fictional love story set during the stormy years of anti-war
...melodies which made this musical so memorable and great. The song “Rent” at the beginning of the musical is a rock song which explains the struggle to get money to pay for rent and how the residents at the building will not pay the rent. Another choral number “Seasons of Love” is probably the most famous song from the musical and it talks about how the seasons are changing and life will still go on. Also the last choral number “Finale B” is also very renowned and it expresses the remaining friends’ joy of being together and realizing that they have this moment and that their lives will continue on. The musical also has many solo numbers including Roger’s heartfelt ballad to write that one song to be his “One Song Glory” and Maureen’s “Over the Moon” which attacked on the idea of building the Cyber Studio and expressed to her audience how corrupt those investors are.
diversity of this world. The last few minutes of the film we learn that Molly and her two daughters were transported back to the Moore River Native Settlement and made the 1,200 mile trip for a second time. This shows the audience that the racism in Australian did not just end with the movie; there were many more years of oppression against the Aboriginal culture.
The dream that Larry and Sally had of a life of order for their marriage became overshadowed by the law of chaos and changed them for the better. In Crossing to Safety Larry and Sally were living in a dream, and
In this section, I will argue that La La Land meets and engages with enough of Rick Altman’s criteria for an American film musical to be considered a proper one. Altman outlines two different sets of criteria: the semantics and the syntax. The semantics covers the basics of essentially any musical: format, length, characters, acting, and sound. The syntax, however, is far more specific. It details the specifics the narrative and technical structures of the film must meet in order to be considered a film musical. La La Land meets most the semantic criteria with ease. With a runtime of 128 minutes, it is a feature length film. The narrative of the film focuses on the development and achievements of a heterosexual romantic couple, Mia and
Score/Soundtrack: Music throughout this film remained somewhat unnoticeable as it let the action of the film speak for itself. The calm music throughout the majority of the film helped me focus on dialogue and expressions instead of sound and chaos. Scenes filled with music, such as the moving away party and search for Bruno, did help the film as they helped bring more description and evidence of emotion to the
I would recommend this film to young adults and adults. I personally admired it because it made me connect to the world outside man-made buildings and structures. It gave me inspiration, dedication, and motivation to achieve my goals. I would rate this movie 3.5 because the characters and setting were well chosen. Overall, the movie sends a meaningful message of happiness lying within people, not

Movies have been an expressive way to showcase history, society, and art for many years. There are many different important aspects that go into creating a movie. These elements work together to create an entertaining piece of work that can connect to an audience. An important element of movies that help shape the meaning of a film is the soundtrack. The soundtrack is a selection of recorded music that can be synchronized to the film. There are five main types of soundtrack recording which include Musical film, Film scores, Pop albums, videogame sounds, and albums with dialogue and music. All of these types of sound creates the environment of specific scene. There are three movies that interests me with its stimulating storyline and soundtrack
