Human behavior is caused by the various needs. What drives us humans to pursue these needs and goal is a terminology called Motivation. But how do we define our needs? Eventually, a scientist named Abraham Maslow developed his model on 5 levels of biological needs, as motivators called Hierarchy of need; which is defined as self-actualization, esteem needs, belongingness, safety needs, and physiological needs. In this case, if I was a manger applying this terminology to motivate my employees would help bring out their best overall performance. The first need that I find most important is self-actualization. Which defined by Maslow is full use and exploitation of talents, capacities and potentialities. How I would apply this toward my employees is by two ways: providing challenges end encouraging creativity. By providing challenges for my employees they have the potential to do more than they know and it is not until they enter the working world that many slowly begin to discover that. Two ways I would help my employees is allow participation and creating team spirit. By creating team spirit I help my employees have a great work environment. Promoting a positive atmosphere helps to accomplish that goal, as well as ensuring that everyone understands where the company is going and that I’m not creating any hidden agendas. If I’ve done the job properly, my employees are going to enjoy work, but also feel continually challenged to achieve excellence. The second way I would boost my employee’s self-esteem is by allowing participation. What I mean by this is allowing employees who enjoy their jobs more as they feel part of the process. People have long considered general theories of motivation, and the question regarding the specific motives that direct and energize our human behavior has undergone tremendous speculation. To this day the question still stands: what is it that humans seek most in life? In an effort to answer this question, Abraham Maslow proposed what he called the hierarchy of needs. Maslow theorizes that human beings are motivated to fulfill this hierarchy, which consists of needs ranging from those that are basic for survival up to those that promote growth and self-enhancement (Kassin 300).

A student at the Sam Houston State University in Huntsville by the name of Randy Garner discovered that there was an affective way to get people to do what you wanted, without being too abrasive. Through the help of a couple experiments Garner discovered that a person could get a higher percentage of people to complete a task with the simple use of a personalized Sticky Note. Garner’s first experiment was with a group of 150 professors who he broke up into three groups of 50. Garner then sent the three groups a survey to complete. The first group received the surveys with a personalized sticky note asking that they be completed. Maslow needs theory has received wide recognition particularly among practicing managers. Perhaps it could provide some valuable insight in motivation. Maslow’s hierarchy of needs “hypothesized that within every human being there exists a hierarchy of five needs. Maslow separated the five needs into higher and lower orders. Physiological and safety needs were described as lower-order needs and social, esteem, and self-actualization as higher-order needs. As each of these needs becomes substantially satisfied, the next need becomes dominant. When one thinks of what families do for each other, they will most likely think of care. More specifically they think of the care that a parent has for their child. Parents have to meet certain “needs” for the child in order for the its healthy survival. Children must be fed and clothed. Parents must also watch over the safety of and be the friends of the children. Cheering on in good times and making their child the best it can be are also responsibilities of parents. The family metaphor is used when describing the Human Relations method of management. In this the management of a company is seen as the parents and the employees are seen as the children.
