Pro-Choice. Why be pro-choice one may ask? Being pro-choice means advocating abortion or having the choice to have an abortion. Abortion should stay a option for pregnant women because many of them are not financially ready to support a child financially or emotionally. Millions of unintended pregnancies in the United States each year end in abortion, as it is a way of saving the mother and the child a life of struggle. Unwanted pregnancies take a toll on women and if they are not financially, emotionally, or physically ready for a child, then they should have to choice to abort.
Financially, raising a child can be overwhelming. A September 2005 survey in the peer-reviewed journal Perspectives on Sexual and Reproductive Health asking women why they had an abortion, found that 73% of respondents said they could not afford to have a baby (Abortion). In this country, there are 46.5 million people living at or below the poverty line. Frightening but true, over five million more women than men are living below the poverty line (Poverty in the United States: A Snapshot). If any of these women living below the poverty line become pregnant, they should have the option to abort if they realize that they cannot provide for that child. If not, a child growing up in poverty may be compromised in his ability to succeed in school; his social and emotional well-being, and his health may also be affected. Abortion must remain an option for women because there many women in the United states not financially, emotionally, or physically ready to have a baby. Why should the government force women to bring children into the world? Millions of unintended pregnancies in the United States each year end in abortion. It is a way of taking responsibility for unwanted pregnancies, as pregnancy takes a toll on women. If a woman is not financially, emotionally or physically ready for a child, she should have the option to abort. Giving women an option to abort is a freedom that women should continue to have.
