Everything in the artwork based on its style is abstracted because it is a collage piece. With Romare Bearden’s amazing collages, the one that I found very intriguing was At Connie’s Inn. What stood out to me in this particular collage were its warm colors of oil paints since it would remind me of the warm bright sun at its peak of sunset though its setting was during the night time. The warm and cool color paints are also partly dulled and diluted to have more of that collage feel pop out more. The colors that were involved were red, yellow, blue, and green. Green was the color which dominated the piece since it must have reminded Bearden of the time when he was in the Caribbean. The collage is very analogous based on the variety of colors …show more content…
appearing next to each other. The only time that it show a few complementary areas were the red and green colors blending in the squares that were in front of the band, the tubas in the upper left and lower right of the corners, plus two of the figures in the foreground had the two colors complement each other as well. The only neutral color that I see was black within the piano and mainly in the upper left corner. Music also played an important role in Romare Bearden's art. When it came to having a jazz music theme behind his piece, his method as a visual artist was based in part on what he had learned from jazz musicians about composing on the heat of the moment. I visualize more of the historical background in this piece because in the essence jazz music you can't just separate it from the everyday struggles that African Americans went through even though a lot of people would assume that it is the usual stereotypical concept of African Americans going into a usual place other than to just got to the bar to just party, get drunk, and “loose.” What was shocking for me as I look into this piece was that the piece had majority of black musicians in the background while the white audience listening to their music are in the foreground. The reason why there are different mixes of race in this piece was because it not only provided a culture in which all races were integrated, but in which a person was judged by the ability to play jazz music and not by race or any other irrelevant factors that were around during that time. Even different White and Hispanic groups played jazz music around the time when Bearden was alive as well. For jazz musicians themselves, playing music is a process that is intriguing to their own growth as a person since their music is their diary that is more pure than words can tell. Different genres of music can cause people to go through a range of emotions that have been the boost to keep going forward to the point of people dealing with their own struggles and fears. Even through the toughest times that people had to endure during Bearden’s time, they still found many ways to have happiness in their lives. The way that Bearden includes these visual elements and designing principles to support the context of his piece by his continual use of combining African and European culture into one piece.
In this collage, Bearden has taken the nightclub scene in order to give it a Post-Impressionistic feel of unpredictable repetitions and juxtapositions of structural shapes, patterns, and textures in his art that creates startling unexpected visual rhythms as well. When viewing more of the shapes I see more organic shapes than geometric shapes since there more angular curves within the figures in the foreground and background. Also, there was a cloud like blue shape located above the artwork which must be the curtain itself because of the curves at the bottom. The geometric repetitive pattern that is occurring in the artwork were the collage squares that were appearing in the upper left bottom right corners and the squares in front of the band that were green with a red circle in the middle making a horizontal line. There were also circles within the center of the …show more content…
tubas. By carefully squinting at some of the figures, I can see a jazz band playing, the crowd near the stage sitting still while a man in the back yells at the bottom left corner since I can tell by the gesturing of his hand.
Plus what was put in emphasis was a woman dancing in between the musicians at the left side having the yellow light shining upon her and a few of the other figures. The yellow light is shining from the tuba in the upper left corner. With the woman dancing in this piece, it may refer to Bearden’s wife Nanette since she was a professional dancer before marrying him. With the mixture of black and white races, Bearden’s African and European inspirations come into this piece by the green-like high relief mural showing above to represent European inspiration while the jazz musicians are representing African
inspiration. In my opinion, there’s a possibility that Bearden may have incorporated the different techniques of European art into his piece as well. As I can see in the collage, the orthogonal lines lead up to the tuba at the upper left corner because the orthogonal lines that were actually appearing in the piece were some of the colors pointing in a diagonal direction leading up to the tuba. Based on its mass I can feel the weight shift shifting towards the foreground because based on their size they appear to be much larger than those in the background. There was also an asymmetrical balance as well since there were more items appearing at the right side than the left side. Romare Bearden’s collages have become important by not only having different objects made from certain raw materials and paints, but having the longetivity to survive throughtout more than two decades after his death from complications stemming from bone cancer. In order for his artistic influence to pass on into the next generation order to have creativity throughout the world.
Wayne, transforms this painting into a three dimensional abstract piece of art. The focal point of the painting are the figures that look like letters and numbers that are in the front of the piece of art. This is where your eyes expend more time, also sometimes forgiving the background. The way the artist is trying to present this piece is showing happiness, excitement, and dreams. Happiness because he transmits with the bright colours. After probably 15 minutes on front of the painting I can feel that the artist tries to show his happiness, but in serene calm. The excitement that he presents with the letters, numbers and figures is a signal that he feels anxious about what the future is going to bring. Also in the way that the colors in the background are present he is showing that no matter how dark our day can be always will be light to
Our attention is drawn down by the diagonal light ray coming down from the top center of the painting to first the young girl in the green dress and the rest of the musicians. Our gaze is further directed to these same musicians by the flute played by the shirtless angel-like man.
They might not be very prominent, but they exist the painting and serve as the base for creation. For starters, the window pane contains lines that highlight its simple design. Simplicity remains as the core of this work. Moreover, sill is roughly represented by a thick brown line underneath the window as a boundary in a quietly brilliant fashion. The work has a wonderful color allocation to express the mood. The color is limited within the muted palette color range. Grey—the intermediate color of black and white, is the dominate color for both exterior view and the interior part, as a matter of fact, the observer notices that nearly all colors are mixed instead of natural this work. The cloudy sky corresponds to the grey color of the wall, yet the brightness is not influenced. However, this consistency has successfully created a cold, grave and silent environment for a crowded place such as New York. The whole environment of this painting seems to be surrounded by the negative and depressive
The visual elements in this painting are shape, color and light. The shapes and contours of the mother and child are life like.
Romare Bearden beautiful work of art the Prevalence of Ritual: Tidings is a picture photomontage which is full of borrowed picture fragments, with a few muted colors to portray a mood of melancholy and longing. Making collages was one of his primary medium of expression. I am very familiar with some of his other work and collages is his specialty .I really admire Mr. Romare for his meaningful art work. Every one of his art work tells a story of its own. He is the true example of a devoted artist. He never took short cuts in his art work. He went the extra mile to make sure his work was flawless. It wasn’t just a hobby for him it was a true passion and I can see that through this piece of art.
The painting is organized simply. The background of the painting is painted in an Impressionist style. The blurring of edges, however, starkly contrasts with the sharp and hard contours of the figure in the foreground. The female figure is very sharp and clear compared to the background. The background paint is thick compared to the thin lines used to paint the figures in the foreground. The thick paint adds to the reduction of detail for the background. The colors used to paint the foreground figures are vibrant, as opposed to the whitened colors of the Impressionist background. The painting is mostly comprised of cool colors but there is a range of dark and light colors. The light colors are predominantly in the background and the darker colors are in the foreground. The vivid color of the robe contrasts with the muted colors of the background, resulting in an emphasis of the robe color. This emphasis leads the viewer's gaze to the focal part of the painting: the figures in the foreground. The female and baby in the foreground take up most of the canvas. The background was not painted as the artist saw it, but rather the impression t...
...hese repeated vertical lines contrast firmly with a horizontal line that divides the canvas almost exactly in half. The background, upper portion of the canvas, seems unchanging and flat, whereas the foreground and middle ground of the painting have a lot of depth to them.
The composition of this painting forces the eye to the woman, and specifically to her face. Although the white wedding dress is large and takes up most of the woman’s figure, the white contrasts with her face and dark hair, forcing the viewer to look more closely into the woman’s face. She smokes a cigarette and rests her chin on her hands. She does not appear to be a very young woman and her eyes are cast down and seem sad. In general, her face appears to show a sense of disillusionment with life and specifically with her own life. Although this is apparently her wedding day, she does not seem to be happy.
From the piece of artwork “Rain at the Auvers”. I can see roofs of houses that are tucked into a valley, trees hiding the town, black birds, clouds upon the horizon, hills, vegetation, a dark stormy sky and rain.
This painting by Vincent Van Gogh is on display at the Art Institute of Chicago Museum, in the Impressionism exhibit. There are many things going on in this painting that catch the viewer’s eye. The first is the piece’s vibrant colors, light blues and browns, bright greens, and more. The brush strokes that are very visible and can easily be identified as very thick some might even say bold. The furniture, the objects, and the setting are easy to identify and are proportioned to each other. There is so much to see in this piece to attempt to explain in only a few simple sentences.
The composition concentrates mainly on the foreground .It has three main points of interest, the small rowing boats, the artificial island and the floating barge .It also has a stretch of trees and foliage in the background painted in a much lighter fashion. Monet?s painting has a very different composition from Renoir?s painting of Grenouillere, which was done at the same time; Renoir?s painting is focussed much more on the artificial island and the people on it. Monet uses a combination of thick bold brushstrokes and small short soft brushstrokes; this creates a nice varied look and helps give a good impression of perspective. The tone is also very varied as it is Very light in some areas, but it is also quite dark in others, such as the shades on the barge. The use of dark shades in the foreground makes the boat look so realistic and quite 3D. Although the middle ground is flatter this helps add to the perspective. The water ho...
Starting with visual elements I saw lines, implied depth, and texture. I see lines by him using lines created by an edge. Each line is curved not straight but it works with the piece. By using this he creates the piece to make it whole. He uses many curved lines within the painting I don’t know if there is a straight line in the whole thing. The next element I saw was implied depth. Using linear perspective you can see the mountains but they look smaller than the rest of the piece. They are the vanishing point in the back making it look as if you can walk down and they will get closer and closer to you. The last element that I saw was texture. They talk about Van Gogh’s painting, The Starry Night having texture through a two- dimensional surface, in which this painting has that similar feel. Van Gogh uses thick brush stokes on his paintings to show his feelings. There is actually a name for this called, Impasto,
...f the shadows is sprinkled with the orange of the ground, and the blue-violet of the mountains is both mixed with and adjacent to the yellow of the sky. The brushstrokes that carry this out are inspired by the Impressionists, but are more abundant and blunter than those an Impressionist would use.
The painting depicts two figures, the one of a woman and of a man. The dominating central figure is the one of the woman. We see her profile as she looks to the left. Her hands are crossed in a graceful manner. She has blonde hair and her figure is lit by what seems to be natur...
Also, the performers are constituted with same number of men and women. They imply the importance of equality through the performance. The female and male dancers use the same movements to show that they are equal. The message being conveyed here is important, on the grounds of its social influence and giving the whole performance a deeper meaning. The thing makes dancing different and odd to other occupations is the fact that most famous and well known dancers are mostly females, since on other social circumstances males tend to dominate more realms. Here, besides all the female masters, the male dancers appear as much as the female artists do and they also showcase what they are capable of. As I watched more of the performance, the interactions between dancers and the LED lights became more appealing to me. Dancers use their bodies to interpret the connections between human beings and technology. Moreover, the background music also plays a vital role in the production of this whole piece of art. The tempo of the music, the dance movements, as well as the frequency of the lights going on and off together appeared to the audience as a desirable combination. I love how the dancers do every movements according to the rhythm of the music and how they two fit perfectly. All of those things together made a great show to watch and
