A STRONGER CAMPUS
When we develop stronger individuals, they create a stronger chapter. And a stronger chapter will enhance your campus community.
Prior to opening a new chapter, we do our homework. When we pursue any opportunity to colonize, we already know that our values align with those of Fraternity and Sorority Life and the campus as a whole.
It is our commitment to exceed the standards of excellence and expectations of Mason’s Fraternity and Sorority Life. It is our commitment to be a trusted Panhellenic partner, enhancing the community and upholding its positive image through individual involvement in student organizations and initiatives. And, it is our commitment to grow the campus Panhellenic by providing more opportunities to unaffiliated

Our New Member Program gets to the point. From day one, a new member knows she is a valuable, contributing member of the chapter. She is quickly integrated into the Kappa experience and feels invested in the chapter’s success and that of the community as a whole.
In order to ensure a solid foundation on which to build a lasting legacy, Kappa Kappa Gamma provides support to our new chapters over and above those that are firmly rooted on their campus. A Chapter Consultant – a trained young alumna who oversees all areas of chapter management and programming – is assigned to each new chapter for the first two years. This is typically a former Leadership Consultant who is already familiar with working with collegians to develop strategies for positive growth.
Additionally, a Coordinator of Chapter Development is assigned to each new chapter for its first three years. She supports the Chapter Consultant and works with the local Advisory Board to build a strong infrastructure for chapter support. New chapters can also expect multiple visits from Leadership Consultants during key times throughout the academic
Chapter six of Blown to Bits by Hal Abelson, Ken Ledeen, and Harry Lewis focuses on the availability of bits via the internet and how easily they can be stolen. They discuss how companies attempt to combat this issue and potential issues that this can present. Throughout the chapter, the authors contemplate the effects that the internet has had on copyright infringement and legislation surrounding that. They discuss authorized use and rulings surrounding it. The overarching theme of the chapter seems to be that the internet was made to share information, however; in that process, information can be stolen easily, and that issue is not easy to combat.
Ooka Shohei named the last chapter of Fires on the Plain “In Praise of Transfiguration.” Through the whole novel, readers witness the protagonist Tamura transform from an innocent soldier to a killer. Readers watch him go from condemning the practice of eating human flesh to eating human flesh for his own survival. At the end, Readers see Tamura’s redemption as he shot Nagamatsu who killed and ate his own comrade Yasuda. What was the difference between two men who both killed and ate human beings? To Tamura, the guilt of eating human flesh distinguished himself from Nagamatsu who cold-bloodily killed Yasuda. As Tamura recalled, “I do not remember whether I shot him at that moment. But I do know that I did not eat his flesh; this I should certainly have remembered.” (224) The fact of him shooting at Nagamatsu had no importance to Tamura. However, his emphasis on not eating
In the Earley book, the author started to talk about the history of mental illness in prison. The mentally ill people were commonly kept in local jails, where they were treated worse than animals. State mental hospitals were typically overcrowded and underfunded. Doctors had very little oversight and often abused their authority. Dangerous experimental treatments were often tested on inmates.
Once I am a fully initiated member of the Fraternity I will attend chapter weekly. The entire pledge class bonds and learns about the Fraternity, ideals, and history together. Chi Omega also plans activities that helps us bond together as sisters, such a flag football against the other sororities, or even something as simple as ice cream out together. These activities bring us together as a discourse community very frequently. This year we had the largest pledge class in the history of the Sigma Zeta chapter at 24 girls. Every year there are two recruitment periods, one in the fall and the other in the spring. It is during these periods that the fraternity replenishes the members that went alumna with new
In conclusion, Kappa Delta is the best sorority on our campus. We are proud of our history and our commitment to helping others. Our philanthropies mean everything to us. We try our best to help better serve them and their cause. We try our best to uphold our values that will benefit us throughout our lives. Being confident is the best feeling in the world. When I joined Kappa Delta, I was a shy and awkward teenage girl. Now that I have been in the sorority for some time I have become a strong, independent, and self-assured woman. These ladies have supported me through all my tough and hard times. No matter what happens in life I know that they will be there for me. Kappa Delta will always be home for me!
The PanHellenic Building houses every Greek Life sorority that is currently on Baylor’s campus. This building was donated by Stacy Riddle and required a $5.5 million budget. The building is a two-story, 51,000-square-foot building contains nine sorority suites/meeting rooms, a computer lab available to all students, a chapel and prayer room, a Panhellenic office and an apartment for the resident manager (Baylor.edu). However, there are no rooms that are set apart solely for a fraternity member. This building allows the sorority and its members to have a place to meet and have their activities. Yet, if you look around campus you do not see a building or even a single room that is that for the fraternity members. The fraternity members must have their meetings either off campus or find an empty classroom in some building and hope that a class does not come in and kick you out half way through your meeting. When ...
Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and professionally as a “lady of distinction” and “exemplary character.” Most importantly, I continuously remain involved in community service, being involved allows me the opportunity to learn and understand the lives and circumstances of others by opening my mind, heart, and soul. Overall these qualities strengthen my passion to be a member of the prestigious Alp...
The founders paved the way for future sorority members to take into heed and have an example of what to go by. The Women’s Suffrage is one of the many struggles the founders had to face. To face a problem within your community of this magnitude shows not only Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated strength, but how diligent the founders were. The founders of this sorority believed in a cause and stressed the importance of overcoming the barrier that was set before them. There are sorority members who continue to surpass and help solve the struggles within our community, such as getting our young people to vote and making sure African Americans are aware of their HIV status. These contributions say more about the women of this sorority than any other. This sorority is very diligent regarding the various events that they host. Time, quality, and effort are the traits I notice in the events that I have attended. The positive actions that the members of this sorority continue to produce, does not go unnoticed. The time and conscientiousness that these Delta women put in gives me great knowledge on how I should portray myself at all times as a future Delta woman. I aspire to be a member of a sorority that is fully committed in the sisterhood, community service, as well as being diligent leader in the sorority as well as outside the sorority. I aspire to be a member of the illustrious Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,
Therefore, I was exposed to many different things surrounding this wonderful fraternity. However, I still never knew what it was I just always admired the bond that my father shared with the guys he called his fraternity brother. It was not until my older cousin that I looked up to cross into the Kappa brotherhood when I really started to understand somewhat. When I got to college, is when I started to take an interest in joining a fraternity. That's pretty much all everyone talked about was joining a fraternity or sorority. Many of my friends took an interest and some of the other fraternity. Mainly because how active they were around campus and how live their parties were. But for me it's was much more than that. I had the privilege of growing up around Kappa’s by attending many events with my father such as tailgates, Kappa Balls, as well as many different types of meetings. So I had the honor of seeing more than what my friends saw. And what I saw was a friendship unlike any other, built out of loyalty, respect and love. And true enough, there are many other fraternity with similar characteristic. However, to me it nothing like Kappa. Just seeing my father love for Kappa is overwhelming it’s nothing he won't do for his brothers. When we are out eating and he see younger brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He pays for their meals and although that may not seem like a lot to some people. I’m like wow he doesn’t even know them but that is was just
Additionally, analyzing the overall structure of the Greek System will allow me to understand why students feel inclined to become a member of these organizations, while others don’t. In order to comprehend this student subculture, however, it is imperative to define what the Greek System really is and what core values they are based on. The Greek System, composed of different fraternity and sorority communities, are organizations that focus on academic, social, and professional support.... ... middle of paper ... ...
The mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, promote unity and genuine friendships among college women, aid in issues concerning girls and women in order to come up with solutions to eliminate or ease the circumstances they may face, maintain an ongoing interest in college life, while also being of service to all mankind. This sorority has not only empowered women to help others, but it
That standard of academic excellence pushes you to become a great student, “if students want to become affiliated with academic discourse communities, or even if they want to succeed in school, they have to make considerable sacrifices,” (Johns 326). Johns’ outline of success academic discourse communities is on point. Fraternities are academic communities along with social. Much sacrificed time has to be taken to be apart and contribute to fraternity, for example a leadership role. A fraternity offers many opportunities of leadership opportunities.
Greek organizations are debatably the most undervalued and misconceived aspect of college campuses. Most people don’t see the benefits that fraternities and sororities bring to college campuses and their communities. Some see these organizations as large beneficial clubs and others see them as potential problems. Many of the allegations put forth by individuals that discredit the benefits and good deeds done by Greek organizations are weak justifications for their removal from college campuses. Greek organizations provide campus communities with academically responsible students, philanthropic activities and increase community involvement.
If I am chosen as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I will work hard to uphold the reputation and exceed the standards that those before me have set. I believe becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. means joining a group of highly educated women that together I believe are capable of facilitating the type of change that is imperative in today’s society. It is my hope that I will be accepted as a member and be afforded the opportunity to take part in that change. I look forward to hearing from you regarding my request to join your
...t the top, but to raise the bar higher for those who are reaching for the top. The men of this fraternity set an example of achievement; they show that being the best isn’t enough. That is why I want to be a part of this fraternity, because I want to be set the example, I want to show that being okay isn’t good enough, and I want to show that being an African-American male, I will not be hindered by stereotypes or any other preconceptions. Being able to be a part of this organization that will push me to be the man I can be, rather than pull me down to a lower level; will grant me the opportunity to be able to show that others can make it, just like I did. Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. is the organization I wish to represent, progress, and be a member of because their objectives and goals, represent what I stand for, and I couldn’t see myself joining any other fraternity.
