A snapshot of my little life begins like this. My full name is Agneta Cyntrece Harris and I am pretty sure that is all you know about me and would be interested in finding out more. I am definitely more than meets the eye. I come from a single parent background, where we live from paycheck to paycheck. I am actually pretty outgoing. I love being around people, even though I am quiet in a setting full of unfamiliar people. I always introduce myself with a warm welcoming smile that is guaranteed to brighten any day. I have ambitions that stretch above and beyond average. I am also a part time student at Upson Lee High School and Southern Crescent Technical College. I strive to make a comfortable lifestyle for myself. All of my time consists of school, and helping my family out where I can. It sounds like a pretty demanding life for an eighteen year old. Somehow I manage to handle it all. Sure it gets hard, but whoever said life would be easy. I am just hoping everything I am striving for now will be worth it. If something in life is wanted, hard work as to be done to achieve it. Due to my circumstances, I believe I have to work harder than most to get where I want to be in life. As long as I stay persistent and keep my faith strong, I know that I can do whatever I aspire, I …show more content…
Some change is for the good and some is not so good. Most of the changes recently in my life have been positive or a result of me turning a negative into a positive. Due to my situation dealing with one income coming in and barely surviving off that, I have realized that the world is a cold place and no one gets any sympathy due to their circumstances. When you fall down you have to get yourself up, dust off, and keep going on with life. That’s a challenge when taking care of a child and going to college. My ambitions outweigh all of my obstacles in life. I try to keep a positive attitude and see the glass as half full instead of half
Hi, my name is Ida Bell Wells-Barnett also known as Ida B. Wells. I was born on July 16, 1862, in Holly Springs, Mississippi. My father, James Wells, worked as a carpenter. My mother, Elizabeth “Izzy Bell” Warrenton, worked as a cook. I was born into slavery, owned by Mr.Bollings who treated us fairly well. I was the oldest daughter out of 9 siblings. My father was involved with the Freedmen's Aid Society and helped start Shaw University, known as Rust College, for the newly freed slaves. I received my early schooling there until age 16. In 1878, both my parents and one of my siblings died in a yellow fever outbreak. I cared for my siblings and got a job as a teacher. In 1882, I attended Fisk University in Nashville. I took college courses
I tend to be analytical, as previously mentioned, and supportive of others. Upholding high principles of morality and ethics have made me flourish as I have a lot of empathy towards the needy.
Coming to college as an adult, we have many expectations and preconceptions of what college will or will not be. The expectations we have can influence our college life for the better or the worse. My experience since starting college has been an interesting one. People have misconceptions about college because they do not know what to expect. After doing some research, I have concluded that there are three major factors that are often misunderstood about college life. The first is the financial aspect of college. Second, is the relationship between the professors and students. Third is time management. These three factors play an important role in why people are afraid to go down the path to college.
Most first generation college students are significantly older than the average, approximately 24 year of age (Pascarella et. al 2004). The surrounding low-income environments that many of these students are raised around can explain this late age. This financial pressure can also explain another category of first generation students, preparation (Chen & Carroll, 2005). These students are often less prepared to enter the college life. They have not been exposed to the necessary preparation needed to succeed on college admissions tests and furthermore don’t meet the performance requirements that universities and institutions require. Analyzing the prefaces that surround the environment of first generation college students aids in understanding current problems faced in college as well as assist in proposing solutions for this subset of
Students entering college for the first time become concerned with their college life. The students are on their own once they enter college. There are no parents or guardians telling them when to do homework, when to go to bed, or how to eat healthy. These students are now responsible for how they are going to succeed in school and meet their own needs. From the beginning, these students wonder what their experience is going to be like and are they going to handle the demands of college?

Although my Father wasn’t around, I never wanted for anything. My mom made sure of that. That’s why I love her, she was always independent. For years I have prayed that God will find a way to put my missing pieces together. My parents tried to convince me to go to anger management for my behavior. I decided to go to Job Corps to better myself. My mother’s favor quotes to her kids was key to success is knowing that failing doesn’t make you a failure, so my child pickup your shoulder, never look back. I hold it in my mind all the time. My favorite movies are Love & Basketball, Beyond the Light. My favorite color is blue. My hobbies are basketball, playing video games.
After my first few months of college, I realized I enjoy being a college student much more than I enjoyed being a high school student. However, the transition between the two extremely diverse worlds, was challenging at first, I found out how to overcome it. Originally, I couldn’t realize how different the two were, but as time went on, I was about to notice the differences. Not everyone is able to be aware of the many similarities and difference. Some differences include: cost, amount of freedom, and reasons why people are there. On the other hand, both high school and college have similar class structure and both require time management. The better prepared a student is to challenged with these many similarities and differences, the more

Within the past decade, more and more kids have been given the opportunity to attend school past high school, something that the previous generations have not had. In a current news release, The Bureau of Labor Statistics stated that, “Of the 2.9 million youth age 16 to 24 who graduated from high school between January and October 2014, about 68.4 percent were enrolled in college in October” (BLS Economic News Release from April 2015). When a student decides to go to college, they usually think that they are free from all the basic classes that they disliked in high school, and that in college you can just take the time to focus on the ones that interest you or that pertain to your career. But, rather quickly, they find that this is far from
College is something that many high school students anticipate; A new transition between two very similar yet diverse worlds. This transition can be something very exciting but also very nerve raking and difficult. Students, Ready to leave behind high school, being researching to find the most prestigious schools and programs available, soon forgetting to remember that although the two, high school and college have their similarities such as doing classwork, and homework the differences are endless.
College is a great experience where no all high school students get the chance to live the feeling of a college student before their graduation. High school might be great for these teenagers, but college is even greater. College can offer them a lot more experience than they get while in high school. Becoming a college student and having a professional education is more than important for new generations. The importance of having an associate degree, a doctoral degree, and a master degree symbolize a successful person. Becoming an educated person with any degrees will make that person’s life as simple as attending to school and getting the best out from it. Now, high school students should attend to college before or after they graduate to
Although going to college is considered a significant and positive step in life, it can challenge a late adolescent's personal security, physical comfort, and ability to enjoy gratifying activities. Moving away to college forces students to establish new social support systems and to renegotiate previous relationships with family and friends back home. Aside from establishing new support systems, the new college environment can be intimidating and anxiety provoking for students for other reasons. There are academic adjustments such as examinations, grade competition, large amounts of content to learn in a short time frame, and excessive homework or unclear assignments. There are also life and social adjustments such as becoming familiar with the college campus, public speaking, encountering hundreds or thousands of other college students, living in a dormitory, and having more independence. In
I had to mature quickly and learn how to take care of someone else besides myself. I am now a mother to four children. They have taught me how to have patience. This has become something I value very much. I have learned that in life you must wait for things. I now know that there was a reason why I had my son so early and wasn’t able to go to college upon graduating high school. I am so thankful that I had patience and waited for the right time to enter. It has been 14 years since I graduated high school, and I’m attending college and know exactly what I want to become. I had patience and took care of my babies at home before I decided to go to school. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’m so glad I
I am an interesting, fun loving guy with a good sense of humor. One thing about me that is important to know though is that at first I come of as a very shy individualistic guy but once I get to know people and are comfortable with my environment I am great. It is hard for me to make friends but once I make them, it’s great and I am all different. I joke, laugh and humor people and I also get as much as I give. I am a very kind, compassionate, sensitive guy as my close friends will tell you. I have a tough shell but on the inside I am soft. I am also a very principled person and stand strong on what is right and wrong. I am also a very straight and honest person. I understand and know that we all put on a show sometimes and do not show who we really are or what we feel but some people do this constantly and those kinds of people I cannot stand.
I have a very fulfilling feeling about what I have been able to accomplish in my life so far. I want the absolute best for myself and those close to me. I often go above and beyond to help those around me succeed and be the best version of themselves that they can possibly be.
